Call me skeptical but I don't think this will be successful at the box office for a bunch of different reasons. There's also the "Wonder Woman" movie coming out in June so there is a LOT riding on that one to finally prove whether comic book films with a female in the lead role can be successful or not. The track record up to now is very poor.

Well, if it's going to have a chance, Joss is the one to get it done. He knows the genre and he knows strong female leads. Still, who cares about Batgirl? Sounds like trying to replace Ben's Batman when they should go Nightwing. Bringing in a former Robin to his older Batman seems natural.

That was my thinking as well. Between the Nolan films and Ben's portrayal, I think audiences simply expect the character to be very brooding, dark and introspective. Can a female version of the character pull that off? Maybe but I have my doubts.

Kate Benkinsale and Mijo Johovish did with their Underworld an Resident Evil series.
Super hero movies are not for everyone. But lot of people like them so they wont go away anytime soon.
I think a batgirl movie could be good but they have to distance themselves from batman. Having him in there as a set piece if fine but batgirl was nothing like batman.

If you're looking for a logical or engaging plot in a Resident Evil movie you're doing it wrong.
Millo Jovovich making frowny faces and looking great killing things in almost cartoon violence is what I was after, and was never disappointed by any of the films in the series.

Hmm, I suppose if you're into that kinda stuff then it was perfect. I have visual processing issues with lots of motion so I don't care for action heavy movies, and tend to enjoy intense and well written dialogue better than anything. I love slow burn movies that take a long time for the plot to develop.

Isn't the plot of all those Resident Evil movies basically "a human created virus turns most of the world into zombies and now a bad ass pretty chick has to kill them all?"

You don't actually know anything about Batgirl, do you?
It's not a gender-swapped Batman. Did Alicia Silverstone try to act like George Clooney when she was Batgirl? It's a totally different character that used Wayne's money and design aesthetic for her costume and equipment.
I don't know if Joss will go with the classic Barbara Gordon story or make it one of the later incarnations, but there is nothing dark or brooding about Batgirl. You're thinking of Catwoman. SHE was the female Batman.

enough with all the super hero movies already... talk about a beaten down movie topic.
Uh...yeah. Film after film grossing $1bn plus in the box office. Let's stop making those right now and switch to making films that will make a lot less money and possibly lose. Like that's going to happen.
Psych 101: the world is a mess. It's getting worse. People have no interest in fixing it, only in profiting from it. What do the masses look for? Escape! Where good and evil is a lot clearer and you get to watch the good kick the ass of the evil for 2 hours in ridiculous ways. And the movie studios profit from that, because making money is all that motivates them.

Well, yes. But she has spunky/brooding/sarcastic friends to help her/need rescuing.
They are such good friends that they can die in one movie and show up in another thanks to cloning or whatever.
I like the way they'll throw in a character from the video games without any explanation or prior mention and everyone knows who they are in the film in which they appear. If one played the video games one would know. If one didn't (such as myself), it's just another odd thing in the movie that can be easily forgotten as there are flashing lights, loud noises, and things blowing up immediately after.
I would like the Underworld series a lot better if they'd turn the lights on. I get that it's vampires and werewolves, but holy smokes the lighting is dark and stuff can be hard to make out.
Btw. I'm sort of meh on Batgirl. None of the DC comics movies has really impressed me, to the point where I don't own a single Superman or Batman DVD.
Superman can do anything except the thing he hasn't tried to do yet. Batman is a multi-billionaire who can't get over the death of his parents when he was a kid and so became a vigilante. Whaaaaaaa.
