My B-days tomorrow...at my age I buy my own gifts minus socks, underwear, and body wash, lol... Bought this 2013 HD Electra Glide Classic, 3k miles for 10k from a fellow officer who took care of it, and garaged it most of it's time.

Year 2 of my retirement, 2018, will being doing the IMSA SportsCar tour, all via bike, camping out or cheap hotels. Along with other smaller trips with the woman like a weekend in Key Largo this summer.

and with this purchase that was near the last of all my bonus DROP money from retirement. wink BUT did pay off ALL my bills minus the home. wink

Hmm, I can't spot any oil drops on the concrete, so better make sure it's not empty. :P

Nice bike for an awesome price. And sounds like a really cool plan for a tour.

Are those the original tires?

Nice bike Magnum and I wish you a pre-emptive happy birthday!

So I guess your wife handles the socks, underwear and body wash needs? biggrin

Doing retirement right! Sounds like a great year planned.

Woohoo!

You are gonna love the Upgrade.

Things to change that add the most:

Progressive HD shocks: WOW! This was huge! I had no idea that the Harley air shocks SUCKED so badly. If you get tired of getting beat up by the road, do them. Easy to do, took about 35 minutes to replace and install. Well worth it. $400 or so.
Aftermarket Chinese LED headlights (Amazon) - Again, A HUGE difference. You can buy the headlight, bracket, and 2 driving lights as a kit for under $185 and they turn night into DAY. Big safety upgrade.
Kuryakyn Cupholders, for front and rear. $65 each
MPOW Bluetooth connector: comes with jack to plug into the 3.5mm AUX socket and hangs right there. GREAT way to stream to your stereo. Lasts for about 7 hours. $20
BugSlide cleaner: Nothing better. Period. Cleans and details at the same time. get the small travel bottle and microfiber towel for trunk.
HD Circulator Seat pad: $90 - Nothing prevents swampy pants like this does! Very comfortable and it works. I know because it gets to 105F around here during the summer....

Sweet ride Magnum!

If those are stock pipes you might want to think of upgrading. Remember "Loud pipes save lives". If that teeny bopper is tweeting her peeps while on the freeway she might not see you...but maybe she will hear you.

Stay safe and enjoy!

Yeah...and so will all the people that live within 2 miles of the road. I was literally woken up by some idiot at 3AM going down the interstate as it echoed all around.

If you only plan on driving during daylight hours, then fine. Don't you dare drive at night though. Loud doesn't affect blind and deaf old people who are oblivious to anyone on the road but themselves anyway.

I'm sure Magnum appreciates your compliments on his new bike and is eager to comply with your schedule of when he can ride... screwy

Some towns here have been proposing banning motorbikes due to the open pipe Harley riders disturbing their sunday siestas.

It's a problem here in the UK too. It's hard to find a Harley with std pipes.

For Christ's sake...I'm sorry I mentioned it.

If you guys are done taking a steaming turd on Magnum's new bike announcement...maybe folks that actually appreciate motorcycles can just respond from here on out.

I'm sure you can find other threads with something that offends you around SimHQ somewhere.

If you haven't already...get yourself some good quality gear as well. Helmets (obviously) and boots are areas you don't want to go cheap on. People tend to overlook protecting your feet/ankles.

Magnum,
The rake of the bike is not the worst, but I do have some old customers that have converted to HD and were surprised when the strearing stem bearing became loose. Once in a while, jack the thing up and check how much pull it takes to move the bars from center. One pound at the end of the bar is standard for most brands. Loose induces wobble and "klunk". Tight makes it seem you must adjust your weight to stay in a straight line. That "girl" is heavy, so she is going to seat the bearings over the miles. Keep the bearing from rusting and you only need to grease them. Drop the triple clamps and grease the tympken bearings now and again (perfect conditions 15K miles). The factory amount is not enough for a salt air enviornment. (sorry for the spelling ).

Pressure washing causes water past the seals. Adjust your bearing maintenance accordingly. Put grease on the lip of any seal you replace unless the normal fluid is not oil (brakes)

Forget what you learned about tire pressure for your car if the tyres are radial. Your girl is heavy and 80's advice for tyre pressure only applies to bias ply tires.

75% of your braking power is in the front wheel, but if you loose the grip then she will make you hurt. Braking experts are pro racers.

Loud pipes do not save lives unless they are obnoxious. The sound exits the rear of the pipe. The sound wave travels at the speed of sound minus your forward momentum and some technical blah, blah. Loud pipes sux. Trust noone and make sure that neither you and them can be in the same space and time for the same instance. (Make sence?). Never travel beside another vehicle unless you can see the eyes of the other driver. Faster or slower, never the same speed.

LOL, cops let you have 10 mph.

wink oh, there is also an old trick for vibration in handlebars, fill them with silicone calk. smile that rototiller is going to vibrate

Enjoy the trip.

This is no "Red Alert" from me here - those tires would likely be okay, but if you've got the coin to be buying a Harley and doing a big American road trip on it then seriously consider some fresh rubber...

If you do your whole original plan you'd be buying tires anyway......

Oh, and get a tire plug kit. No motorcycle service will plug a bike tire. There's decently good reason for this, but if you ride all over America you WILL almost certainly get a flat at some point. And after you're done pushing the bike to the next town (or getting lucky and having someone with a truck help you) they might not have the tire you need. It's a "Band-Aid", but a hell of a save....

^ Yep, I was actually wondering about the tires because they look pretty virginal for about 5000km. Three years isn't that big a deal but good rubber really saves lives.

OTOH if he installs cupholders it becomes kind of a car anyway :P
