OK......I've read the FAQs about wingies till I'm blue in the face. My understanding is that that a designated target....selected, and commanded "attack"....means that my faithful wingies will leave that one alone and go find another target. This has NOT been my experience of late. My faithful compadres stay close and poach every target I've zeroed in on. Hey...break away and shoot those other guys....this one's mine!! Late '17 46th.....seems I have to leave the scene to find a cripple or just circle overhead to dodge in and be helpful. F that....I want more score and if my crew gets in the way and cops a fusillade...it's their fault. At the same time I'm aware that's not cooperative but Jeez....what's a monster to do. Any thought on settings....attack approaches would be welcome. Cheers....gaw1

GAW

I haven't tried this but it might be worth giving it a go! Try the "split formation" command. I think it is "S". This will allow you to leave the squadron and your wingman just before a fight. They will stay together and should ignore you. The down side might be that they won't come to help you out if you get double or triple teamed.

Let us know how it works.

Best Regards

I've noticed this too! Just for grins I've shot at my own guys and even cursed them in writing when making claims! Of course... I am a member of the B.O.C. so everybody have a beer or I'll shoot your arse off!

The wingy's react on their own, and if you use TrackIR it can be a little dangerous as some tend to crash into you.

But then again we can't talk to them like in online games. My experiance is that if I shoot up an EA and some dude picks him off I still may claim him and often get the victory too.
Just be aware of who is where and who is fighting whom. It pays to start a fight and look to make sure your friends arn't going to get in the way.
If I notice I'm not the only one going for the target, then a quick look around and another EA is sure to be free to attack. I even like watching my guys battling it out at times.
And if we greatly out number the enemy then I tend to step aside to watch whats going on as the boys realy do tend to get in the way even of each other.

make mistakes and learn from them

thx all...........you're much more chivalrous than I've been....I'll amend my ways. I speak under correction here but I thought "S" for split meant break off and go home as the TAC immediately defaults to a straight shot back to base? I'll try it though and report back....Cheers

GAW YES THAT IS WHAT SLLIT S MEANS BUT YOU HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR OWN CRAFT AND CAN DO AS YOU LIKE. EXCUSE THE UPPER CASE TEXT.

From the WOFF Documentation:

Split
This implementation does not correspond to that of the original game.
The player should issue this command to indicate that he is leaving the formation.
If the player was leader then one of the AI will become leader in his place.

So note that it is not the same as the "return to base" command. It is more like a "take over, I am no longer in charge" command. Your TAC path points to home because you, personally, are no longer are part of the mission.

As to the original post, I never assign targets. Your wingmates will attack on their own if youm lead them into a fight; nice and simple (i.e. no commands to remember, and no ugly TAC needed on the screen).

Press A with no targets and they will choose any random target they see or fancy. You can always target some other target you are not going to go for, and they will chose randomly around that, and if they don't it won't matter. They may also target something then change their mind depending on what happens and go for another which may or may not be yours.
Balloons are different they will go for the target balloon.. The AI do choose other targets but if there aren't many targets for each flier in your flight then maybe some go for yours or double up elsewhere.

Basically it's not black and white, it's WW1 and you have no accurate way to communicate.
