Ah, I didn't realise the minutes were made public. Was it an AMD shareholder or a random youtuber that told you about panic-gate lol

I don't believe it for one second. Intel must have known they couldn't possibly keep monopolising the CPU prices much longer, as soon as any competition came along it would have the effect of slashing their margins and Zen/Ryzen has been bubbling for a long time.

I'm quite sure a 'Intel panicking' headline could quite easily have been started by someone associated with AMD too......they're obviously going to fan any flames and ensure that this sort of statement which actually surfaced on YouTube about 2 months ago would suddenly be brought into the limelight.

What we mostly do in this thread is "quote" from reviews and maybe add a few summary sentences so folks don't have to read it all to "get the jist". By no means do we expect everyone to believe or agree. Heck, we sometimes question articles -- but, we aren't experts at everything -- so, we give the information.

Here is one of two articles I read that used the word "panic" (I could not find the other one anymore). As we all know, those who write for a living tend to use words like that ("panic", "catastrophic", etc) . However, in this case, Fuad Abazovic is using the word and explaining why. Mr. Abazovic was the founder of Fudzilla and is known to have "inside connections" in the industry. In years of reading his writing, he's appeared to be one of the more reliable sources of "Rumor, Speculation, and insider information".

Here's the whole article that we referred to earlier in this thread. If it were me, I would not "panic". However, CEOs are tasked with keeping stock prices up. Loss of market share means loss of stock price. If things look bad enough, a CEO might "shake a bit" -- CEOs have been fired for less (but they get a big severance package -- so okay, fire me smile ).

It's complete hyperbole. The only relevant statement in that article is this;

"Now Intel is panicking, trying to find an answer to this major threat. The company had to warn its investors that it will lose both market share and margins to AMD"

That isn't the definition of panicking at all. Intel knew for a long time that they would lose market share and margins to AMD. Intel already have an answer to Ryzen, it's already at retail but just priced far too high hence why their margins will have to be reduced.

You guys just lap up any AMD related excitement like a fat chick in a sweet shop biggrin

I believe the modern term is "click bait". Lay out the facts which to any reasonable person seem mildly concerning at best then make conclusions and headlines which make it sound like the end of the world to make people read it and want to discuss it in your comments section to drive up traffic and your ad revenue.

In the old days, it was called yellow journalism. It was panned and I thought journalism schools taught it as something to be avoided...yet it now seems that between TV and online it's the de facto standard.

RIP Journalistic Integrity, 1910-1999. You didn't live to see the 21st century.

The page count in this ";Future and Current Status of AMD" thread has more than doubled in the last year -- because AMD's status has actually changed that much.

RX480 hit the shelves roughly a year ago -- first truly new AMD GPU design in roughly 4 years.

During the last year Zen was being heavily rumored -- because it was the first truly new AMD CPU design in about 4 years.

AMD stock prices increased many fold leading to more rumors and speculations. And some wealth for investors.

Even more rumors regarding Vega GPU -- another new AMD GPU design -- to be released in May.

I can remember a period only a couple years back that I only posted at SimHQ a couple times in 6 months. Now, its a couple times a day (or more smile ).

Maybe AMD things will "quiet down" in July or August. Uh-oh Navi is coming next in 2019 (?). Navi is supposed to be the "big one", GPU-wise. Oh, and AMD is already working on the CPU 7nm process node (said to skip 10nm where Intel is temporarily stuck, it is said). Some rumors say Navi will be 7nm. Maybe it won't be so quiet in a thread that speculates about "Future Status of AMD" smile

Meantime, blogs will be blogs regarding their writing style. They are the sources of information in 2017. Mostly, the more highly regarded rumor-sources have turned out to be objectively correct in most (not all) of the main-points over the last year-plus. Even surprised me how far AMD progressed towards "parity" with its competitors.

Errrm........the page count in this thread has doubled in the last year because you've pretty much linked every article on 'wccftech' at least twice yep

What I've noticed is that WCCFTech, videocardz, and Fudzilla repeat or initiate most of the interesting information. So, mostly, their versions get excerpted or posted here.

Now, knowingly double posting has only happened a couple times -- as it did just above to illustrate the "panic" article.

If this thread has "too much information" to be interesting, then folks have the option to ignore it.

Back to the regularly scheduled programming.

MSI Enabling A-XMP For Ryzen Motherboards Soon

..Looks like memory speed support is indeed increasing .. coming in the very near future through an EFI update..

..It is no secret that memory support has been lacking in the early days of Ryzen...

Memory speeds above standard (higher overclocks) are expected to begin to be supported in April/May by MSI. Presumably, other motherboard manufacturers will also provide code updates in that time frame. Usually, memory speeds above standard have little to no effect on game FPS.

AMD Ryzen CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads spotted

Another day, another Ryzen leak. .. of yet unannounced Ryzen CPU with 12 cores, which is most likely being prepared for AMD’s HEDT X390 platform..

..not one product, but a whole new series ..[including 16 core] ..

..it’s not a server chip .. [its a desktop chip] ..

Engineering sample leak -- no release date estimate. These 12 and 16 core desktop Ryzen will not run in current Ryzen desktop motherboards. Not aimed at enthusiast gamers.

Intel is competing on the "bang-for-buck" front (it is speculated):

Intel Core i7 7740K and ASRock X299 Professional Gaming i7 spotted

..we are looking at budget-oriented high-end CPU.

Intel Core i7 7740K is not just an i7 7700K refresh. This processor requires a new socket (LGA2066) and as a result, new motherboard. It’s also worth adding that one of the most important changes from Kaby Lake S is a lack of integrated GPU. Apart from that, we have 100 MHz higher base clock and increased TDP (91W -> 112W)...

.. [based on leaked test results] It’s a close fight with Ryzen 5 1600:.

..Ryzen 7 1800X offers better arithmetic performance, with comparable multimedia score..

Yes, that is the rumor/speculation -- which is almost certainly true.

I do not know what they will be called. Often, the speculated name is incorrect.

An AMD Navi GPU roadmap altered by "me" -- to show the AMD current release date (according to AMD). This is not brand new information.

Two things to note:

First, does not release until some time in 2019 (or later) -- I personally will be considering Vega as a replacement for RX480 -- because it will be a while before Navi becomes reality.

Second, "Scalability". This is big. It allows AMD to make smaller cores (cheaper per core because lower percentage of bad gpu cores off die). They can combine as many cores as they want to make the most powerful GPU -- but all those cores act as ONE GPU -- not like CrossfireX or SLI. Could be a game changer if Nvidia does not do something similar (which I assume they will). AMD has already "pioneered" "Scalability" with Ryzen -- so, presumably, they know how to do it.
