Is there a refined release date or did I overlook it on your forums? Definitely looking forward to this release and have enjoyed your previous releases as well.
It does to someone who has never played Red Storm Rising. You can watch units in action in full 3D, something you can do in Dangerous Waters if you have a link connection. So to me this looks like an expanded and upgraded Dangerous Waters with a huge map.

It doesn't at all play like Dangerous Waters, though. It plays much like Red Storm Rising combined with Tom Clancy's SSN. The game is infact intended to be played entirely from the 3rd person, though you can play it from the maximized map if you so choose.

So it will be more of a casual sub sim then.

Yes, and that was always the intention. Our focus lies on the experience of commanding a sub during wartime rather than procedural realism, so there is a much greater emphasis on things like strategic positioning, managing your weapons and deciding what tactics to use in scenarios generated by our dynamic campaign engine. You'll never play out the same engagements twice.

Will you guys make something for those of us who like to manipulate the periscope, plot the solutions, and fire the torpedoes ourselves? I don't see why we can't have something like Dangerous Waters with a dynamic campaign. I guess escorting endless convoys across the Atlantic might get quite boring for the one guy who wants to play a Perry captain. Attacking them is much more fun. Also loving the fact that developers seem to be leaning more toward the Cold War these days.

You can pop up the scope and mark targets with it; there is a narrowband display where you can identify contacts based on acoustic signature, and the tactical map allows you plot waypoints for your weapons as well as set search depth, guidance mode and search patterns. You can also manually wireguide the weapons provided you have an intact wire. There is also a damage control aspect where subsystems can be put out of action and compartments start to flood. It is for instance possible to get a reactor scram because a nearby explosion tripped the breakers. But we're not going to do manual TMA or manual sonar station. It's just not what we think is fun or what we want from a sub game. Besides, Dangerous Waters already does the full-on hardcore systems simulation. Our games are more in the tradition of Microprose and Dynamix.
