Orphan Black is awesome if you enjoy SF that could be today, it's not in the future. 12 Monkeys is in the future, the past, and the present. Lots of jumping around.

Dark Matter and Killjoys are the best 1-2 punch SFC has had since the days of BSG and SG-1. The Magicians and The Expanse are good shows, but they don't fit together despite airing together.

It's not on the list because it's not a currently airing show with new episodes being made.

Actually it is. Season XI was aired last year, and season XII is coming this year.

Ok my mistake. I had no idea they were making new episodes! That's great to hear.

Bah, didn't see Dr. Who 'til after I voted. And Babylon 5 isn't on the list(I know, not currently running but whatever, show is awesome and have been watching past couple of months).

Too many of you are sleeping on 12 Monkeys.

By far the best sci-fi show on TV currently

You can always start your own poll you know. The purpose of why I defined my poll the way I did is because I wanted to see how much interest there was in the SimHQ community for NEW sci-fi shows.

The reason I haven't tried it out yet is that I already know the story, and it's already been done excellently by Terry Gilliam. I don't know that I would be too interested in watching a good story that I already know stretched out over several hours.

You have a false idea of what the show is. It is not simply doing the film again taking longer. Imagine there was a novel series called 12 Monkeys, like Dune.

Gilliam's film adapted the first book but changed the ending to make it stop there. The TV series is following the books, but stayed faithful to the original ending where Cole doesn't die and it isn't all wrapped up in a neat little bow at the end of 2 hours.

The film had one time line that looped back on itself. They could never stop it because they never knew what was going to happen, but it always did because Cole grew up remembering himself being killed at the airport as an adult. Destiny unchanged. It was one-and-done.
The show has multiple time lines. Things have been changed several times, except for the plague itself. Yet who has lived, who has died, whether or not someone had children or got married...all different.

It's interesting SF.

It's certainly not a "water cooler" show like Game of Thrones or Westworld so I can easily understand why you're not familiar with the show.

It's like how Blade Runner isn't a faithful adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep or Total Recall isn't of We Can Dream it for You Wholesale (I think I got those Dick titles correct), the series isn't a faithful adaptation of the film, just a jumping off point.

Stick with the first season. If you don't get drawn in by the end of it, things won't be magically improving in later seasons, so you can safely give up there, but it does take time to get a sense of where they're going with the story.

With many of these modern serialized shows you really need at least 5-6 episodes to get a feel for it and by that point you're halfway done and might as well stick to the end anyway. smile

It's not a water cooler show because it's not on HBO or promoted like those shows.

On top of that, either people think it is just a remake of the movie that they liked...even worse they think it's a remake of the movie they didn't even watch.

If you do give this show at least 4 or 5 episodes, you will really appreciate what the show is doing. Its the show that even my wife watch regularly and we discuss all the twists and spins.

I hear season 3 is going to be rolled out over one weekend almost Netflix style. That is awesome.

Strike Time after Time from the list of currently running shows. The SF was pretty slim since it was just "this cab travels through time", but it still qualified.
