Standard model $1800 and a Pro for $2200.

For that price, you get a seventh-generation 4.2GHz (4.5GHz boost) Intel Core i7-7700K processor, an NVIDIA GTX1070 graphics chip (GTX1080 on the Pro), 16GB of RAM, a 240GB SSD (480GB on the Pro), a 1TB hard drive (2TB on the Pro) and a liquid-cooling system wrapped up in a black-and-blue Tron-esque enclosure. Whew. If you build your own computers, or are really into obscure PC component information, you'll probably appreciate knowing that the One uses a Z270 motherboard and Corsair's SFX 80 Gold small form factor power supply unit.

The 14.9-inch-tall (or 380mm) tower is made of blasted aluminum, and features a triangular ventilation setup that draws air in from the vents on either side and pushes it out through the fan at the top of the chamber. All told, the Corsair One weighs a hefty 7.2kg, or 15.8 pounds.

Not a product for me, but I am glad high end computers could be a profitable proposition for these companies.

One negative: They mention this case configuration is not made to be easily upgradable.

I like it too. I like pretty much everything of theirs I've ever bought, so I'm glad it's them going this route.
That's not cheap, but for those that don't want to build themselves, it's an option.

The parts are good and it would do the trick. But I would look at it like I'm paying someone three or four hundred to put it together. If someone said to me we will give you $300 to assemble the PC I would take that every time.

Over the years you read a lot of advice to build your own, that it's really easy and anyone can do it. Well, I don't know about that. I know plenty of folks who I don't think could do it without breaking something or messing it up. It takes some level of competence. For those folks this is a good alternative. It looks nice, has liquid cooling and solid specs.

Building is easy -- turn screws, plug plugs. A true expert can put a PC's hardware together in much less than an hour -- less than 15 minutes in some contests.

Problem areas: What make and model components to buy??? (requires significant knowledge). What to do when it fails??? (requires nerves and knowledge and self-confidence regarding PC fixing)

When I started, I personally had to "get over" the nerves aspect. Still "takes the air out of my lungs" when a part fails (as one motherboard recently has -- twice).

Meantime, breaking a tiny tooth in the back of one's mouth can cost well over $2000 simply to get back to having a functional tooth (as I recently found out). So, around $2000 for a few years of PC pleasure may not be "out of line".

Hence, I get it when folks say they would rather buy than build. The above unit looks good to me for the price -- but, I'm not an Intel/Nvidia expert.

Just thoughts.

Good points Allen. I can recall my first build. It was around 2001 or so. I had been buying Dell Dimension XPS rigs up to that point. But I thought what the hell, why not start putting them together? I can save money, learn a lot about hardware, and configure it just how I wanted it. Everyone's doing it. My main goal was to shift from Dell's proprietary model and get something more modular. I wanted to be able to upgrade it periodically as certain components became old news. This way, instead of buying a new $2000 rig every two to three years I could make it last much longer, saving money while keeping the performance up to date.

So that's what I did. Bought the case and all the innards and sat down to figure it all out. Truth is I didn't even know what a jumper was. But I learned and the first build was a success. I take your point about the actual assembly being fairly easy, but there are still things a novice could get very wrong. I could see for example a first-timer struggling to get a CPU and cooler installed correctly.

Your points about which components to get is especially true. In my case I tend to fall out of the loop soon after a new build. You can see that in my build thread here recently. Then I just ask you guys and research on the net. Thinking about this it would be interesting to see a detailed thread here from someone doing a build for the first time.
