Apparently he does have interest in doing something with it, just not right now.

The Jedi Master Yeah maybe in like 15 years after the final Avatar film is released.

If they aren't moving into the future with the fight with the machines proper, I don't need another movie. No more time travel crap that was never even close to explained.

The Jedi Master Yeah maybe in like 15 years after the final Avatar film is released. Not that long: “Avatar 2” hits Christmas 2018, followed by “Avatar 3” at Christmas 2020, “Avatar 4” for Christmas 2022 and “Avatar 5” dated for Christmas 2023.

So it's releasing on alternate years from the big Star Wars movies so it competes with the one off's? If the movies are good enough, that shouldn't be necessary, but still, Star Wars owns December at the theaters for the foreseeable future. He should shoot for July.

Considering cameras aren't even close to rolling and they've already pushed it back a dozen times I'm not holding my breath on those dates either.

Well, we’ll see. They’ve had the chance to get it right a few times, and frankly, it’s hard to imagine them screwing it up any further. But if you have a pitch for a new ‘Terminator’ movie, let us know in the comments section. They really must be desperate that they'll take ideas from the comment section. Maybe it time to get the SimHQ Movie Studio going.

It's easy to scorn them for risk aversion when one has no skin in the game. Besides, there's plenty of Arthouse cinema, and from non-Hollywood producers. It's just when it comes to sinking a quarter billion dollars into a production that people get nervous. And to be honest, they should. It is a massive investment for a largely unpredictable outcome. Even from the pure profit motive perspective the studio has failed since both Terminator Salvation and Terminator Genysis either broke oven or just barely made a profit. The fundamental issue here is a business pushing out a product that no one wants but still persisting in making it.

Your definition is overly broad.
Does "no one want" a bad Terminator film? No, they don't.
Does "no one want" a good Terminator film? I think there is an audience for that.
The problem is they haven't had a script for one that satisfied the latter. They thought they did. They were wrong.

They've been wrong big time twice already and in my opinion they should just retire the franchise unless they can get Cameron involved which right now seems unlikely.

This speaks volumes. As you can see, both Genisys and Salvation made a lot of money overseas but it still wasn't enough to make the films profitable or at least profitable enough for the studio to be happy. In fact, the production company that made Salvation went out of business shortly after release. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=terminator2015.htmhttp://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=terminatorsalvation.htm

The thing about the Terminator story is that it is limited, it's supposed to be a closed loop. As we can see from all the various sequels/prequels etc, all that's happening is the loop is repeated, or the beginning is expanded on, that part that was previously unseen and only told in dreams, which I kind of liked. I think we've seen the best the Terminator franchise has to offer, the evidence is at at the expense of also seeing the poor stuff since T2.

There IS such a thing as blemishing a story by over-explaining things. As a general rule it is usually a good thing to leave some mystery or at least just broadly touch on it and leave it to the viewer to interpret the rest.

Not to mention... Who the F gave the directing of this to someone called McG?!?!
.
The biggest high profile thing he directed before Salvation were the two Charlie's Angels movies. The first one was well received but the second one was a critical and commercial failure.
