Or whatever it's now called, now:

Gang...now after redownloading v 4.13.3m & dabbling in DCG, I am now considering going out to the BIG MODS. Which do you guys recommend?
I am not too technically adept but I have esoteric tastes RE: eras to fight in, oddball aircraft to fly or destroy and a hankering for some manners of jet warfare (Russians in Korea; North Viets v the USAF); Given I only play off line & my dowload speeds are appalling.
Also I need to know the total size of both of the 'total downloads'.

Thanks, ahead of time.

NM

DBW and CUP are both excellent and both are huge.
They are also both obsolete, DBW for 4.10 and whle CUP is for 4.12, it has been superseded by BAT.

All things BAT are here:
BAT

Your questions concerning download sizes are answered in the DBW or CUP sections at SAS.

I am not the biggest CUP/BAT fan in the world, but if you're going to do a mega mod, BAT is what you want.

Believe it or not there is a third option...

VP Modpac through SAS as well. It's kind of a BAT light. Getting good reviews.

I've had issues with both. Once I got them running they are both very good.

Tell me about this VP Modpac? Is it compatible with 4.13.3m? How big is the total package?

It's 15 parts at 700 mb a part and is based on 4.12.. It took me 3 tries to install it but it took me 5 to install BAT. They are well worth it for what they add. I enjoy them both. BAT had more jets I believe. Actually more of everything but VP is pretty robust.

No, it is 4.12 as well. You will not find any mega mods for 4.13 at this time. Probably not for a very long time, if ever. Make a working 4.12 install, copy it and you can try both if you desire.

Yeah so I was told at SAS...'downgrade' to 4.12; I can downgrade it to 4.10 & then download 4.11 & 4.12 patches (HUGE items) and then download the BAT....trust me I am gonna have to add a another hard drive with another terrabyte worth of space...maybe next year. Either that or I wait for the patch makers to upgrade 14.3.3m to 'something more'.

Somebody at SAS showed me these two items:

One is a Modpack for 4.13.3

http://forum.aviaskins.com/showthread.php?t=4386

But it's in Russian so I don't know what it offers;

Now this..

http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55464.0.html

The 14.3 'unpatcher';
THIS looks easier than downgrading & downloading everything; but there's the whole 'make sure your game is not in the program folder' that gives me pause for thought.

Has anybody used one or the other or both of these mods?

Still a big fan of Dark Blue World. I'm an SP WW2 campaign player and I'm not sure if CUP or more recently BAT has caught up with DBW, in terms of campaigns that are playable, small sample illustrated:

And I like the extra eras, but will play RoF or WOFF if I want to do WW1, and SF2 if I want to do post-war.

No where near caught up with DBW. Most of them will not work perfectly with BAT. Some are being worked on and are being converted, but it'll be a while before you see that kind of content.

I'm slogging my way through updating "Americas Ace of Aces" Campaign in both VP and BAT. The old files will work in VP but not in BAT. A lot of objects and planes have changed in BAT that are screwing things up. I have to open the campaign in 4.13 copy the text in the descriptions etc. then go back into BAT and paste them in. It's a pain.

Another problem with BAT is that I cannot get the New Guinea map to work. I even had a conversation with the creator and nothing works. It works in VP and is a beautiful map I hate to not be able to use it.

I'm glad to hear that Hairog. My modpack was designed for replaying any old dgen and scripted campaign with better graphics, sounds and effects, because that's I'm usually doing. smile Imho if you cant use old campaigns the modpack is useless, you can only do QMB or you have to build your own campaigns.
