Hello everyone....first post, and rather short time lurker. Really enjoying WOFF:UE...played the heck out of Red Baron 3d (and that large expansion that I forget the name of) for years, and recently decided to come back to WW1... Currently playing a "rather boring" campaign with RNAS-1 in July 1915...but can't wait until October To launch things, I thought I would create a meme that shows my wife's love for Downton Abbey, and my love for WOFF:UE Jeff

Welcome to our mad obsession, Jeff! You will find this to be a very friendly, helpful, and informative group. New lad buys the drinks!
And go Redbirds! (I'm guessing from your handle that you might be a Cardinals fan).

So true, Robert! I suspect much flying is going on, though, and the modding activity has been higher than usual, I think. And I miss Herr Olham, he most always had something good to say. Hope he's enjoying the high seas!

Hope he's enjoying the high seas! Herr Olham, yes, it's been awhile since I have seen any of his posts. I know he would love what has been done with the custom aerodromes. Well, there is one of his beloved albatros scouts waiting for him when he returns.

That he would! I actually installed and learned the JSGME thing in hopes that I can get more stick time. But it's funny at my place- I've used these things since keypunch days (started out with a slide rule!), and so can handle them pretty well - my "wing commander", bless her heart, just can't get into them. But just this week she figured it was time to dump the old flip phone, so I got her a pretty nice Android one - you ought to see that. It took me hours to go through as best I could getting all the crap off of it and making sure it was secure, easy to use, transfer the grandkids pictures, that kind of stuff - and I'm looking at her trying to get onto using the thing, and it's like she's holding a stick of dynamite! She's heard so many horror stories she's afraid to touch a thing! Especially when the thing isn't active for 5 hours and she gets two scamming phone calls!
'Bout all I can do is squeeze in some QC once in a while. Life's nuts.

" Life's nuts." Yeah, I hear ya! When I was "BC" (Before Children), I played a lot of games, but now I have five (two step sons and three of my own), and things are, well, busy! My oldest is 17 and college bound, whereas my youngest are twin girls turning 3 soon...I finally have a bit more leisure time (although it is almost always after everyone is asleep), and I just did a casual search of WWI air simulators....the reviews steered me towards WOFF:UE, and so did the overall cost. I do have the free RoF installed, and have flown a couple of missions...it does look quite solid as well, but WOFF:UE takes me back to the Red Baron 3D days of old... Speaking of that, now time for some blather! First off, I got out my decade-plus old *analog* ch pedals and my analog Logitech wingmaster, hooked them up to my manhattan USB converter, and was quite happy to see it worked! Now, I used to hang out in a Red Baron forum many years ago (don't remember which, sadly, but I probably used my current handle there), and I was working on a mod for the campaign manager mod...I taught myself a bit of visual basic and was working to make uniforms that displayed medals/ribbons...the alpha worked rather well, but sadly, I go bogged down in trying to recreate all the German uniforms (as they often had different uniforms based on what region of Germany they were from)...and then, real life intervened, so bye-bye project. Long story short, I enjoy modding, but when it gets to be too much, sadly I end up dropping a project. I am quite pleased to mention that all of the "training" I did in RB3d really applies here. The early planes in WOFF:UE fly similar to what I remember in RB3d (with that huge expansion...The Promise Land Full Canvas Jacket Superpatch for RB3d; just went down into my basement and pulled it out to confirm what it is). I would like to turn off the map cursor that shows where we are (when looking at the map), but I have not found an .ini like file where this is controlled as of yet (I'm sure it has to be somewhere). Eventually, I want to get things as realistic as possible, but what the WOFF:UE team has done is quite good and strikes a good balance for those who want a bit more of a leisurely experience (in my opinion, labels provide this), and more of a simulation experience (no labels, no F5 gauges, etc.)...so that is all, for now!

. Welcome aboard Jeff, glad to have you with us. As has been properly pointed out, new lads buy the drinks and as it is still morning I'll have a dram of Tullamore Dew in my next cup of coffee thank you very much. If you prefer to fly sans in-sim aids, as others here are wont to do, you might like to try out my navigation maps which are available on Sandbagger's User Mods page: WOFF ModsAnd Downton Abbey is excellent, my better half and I enjoyed the entire series together. Watch your six, and Cheers! Lou

Lou, I figured I'd have to turn in my "man" card if I admitted to watching Downton Abbey, but yes, i was a latecomer, and it was one more thing that has kept me from WOFF. The ways of thinking and the mannerisms, and the fact that it was over the time period of the Great War gives us a pass!
Jeff, welcome to the "fivers" club. I have 5 as well, by my youngest is 31! It's the grandkids running round now! Bet your twins are cute.
On to the tax prep!
