I agree CyBerkut. I've never used the quick reply, don't know why one would, if the 'Full Editor' was displayed.

It's just a click away, but still, I see no use for the quick reply.
Does anyone?

I do, as it makes for one less screen to load, but I could certainly live without it.

What if the first screen that loads, is the Full Editor?

Is that possible?

OK, Since it should be a low traffic period, I ran a quick test. Turning off the "Quick Reply" option does 2 things. It removes the "Quick Reply" from the bottom of the forum page, and it makes the editor come up as the Full Editor when doing a Reply or a Quote. I returned the setting to it's configuration before I did the test.

Crane Hunter raises a good point about the extra screen load. It would be nice if we could just make the Reply box on the Forum pages come up as the Full Editor as Murphy asked about. I don't see a simple way to change that in the Control Panel, but it might be possible via editing the appropriate Template in the Display Settings section.

RecerGT and CybBerkut;

Here is how your forum looks on my mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge phone. Note that the last column "Last Post" has been truncated from the page and can only be shown if I specify "Request Desktop Site".

This problem could be resolved if you take the following approach with your web site:

Robert_Wiggins, eliminating space would truncate something else instead, when you are looking at a small screen like that. Note how far to the right the blue colored "882" is in the first screen.

I note the first picture is from your phone in the portrait orientation. Have you tried it in the landscape orientation?

I'll also note (and I'm not trying to give you a hard time over it) that while the "Last Post" column is cut off in the first picture, the actual last post information for each topic (that has been replied to) is displayed below the topic name. Not as handy as the column, perhaps, but the information is displayed at least... which isn't too shabby for the compromise required by a smaller screen.

I don't know if eliminating the space as you suggest is something that could be edited in the Templates in the Control Panel, let alone if it would actually be a good choice to do so. The templates come from from the people who developed and tested UBB Threads. I'm inclined to think they had good reasons for making the choices they did on that stuff. They clearly thought the Last Post information was important enough to include on the screen, even if it wasn't in the column style. If I had to guess, it would be due to a columnar presentation would eat up screen space whether there had been a reply to the topic or not, whereas the way they are doing it lets them conserve screen space on displaying topics that have not been replied to yet.

Thanks!

You made some good points there that I hadn't looked at. Landscape on my phone does address the problem, and I hadn't noticed that the "Last Post" column info was being displayed under the first column. Thanks for the heads up on that. This issue is now resolved for me.

Best Regards

Hello....

I have been asking my phone to make me a #%&*$# hot fighter pilot lately, especially a Russian one, they have all the cool stuff.

So how do I get the forum to tweet me when I am doing something stupid like trying to land inverted?

The good thing is, well, Facebook doesn't have a clue who I REALLY am.

I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

That'd be good, yes.

Unfortunately user interfaces these days seem to be designed by manbun wearing, soy latte swilling hipster programmers who have little practical knowledge or appreciation for time efficiency.

While we're doing a wish list, a more aggressive post saving function would be welcome, I can't believe the number of posts I've lost over the years.

...I still dislake the absence of meaningful navigation buttons at the bottom of pages.
I'd like to see a button
  • to return to the parent (sub-) forum, like "Community Hall" in this case.
Instead, there's just a tiny button to scroll to the top, right next to a near-useless "homepage" button that deals extra damage by catapulting the user out of the forum.
(Makes me wonder what warped mind came up with the idea that this is how a forum UI should look like in the first place...)
  • to go pack a page in the same thread
  • to go forward a page in the same thread
  • to go to the first page in a (long) thread
  • to go to the last page in a (long) thread

Also, I'm missing the preview function of the old board, but it's not essential.
The JavaScript script to enter lists is broken. It breaks off after the first "enter", then doesn't close the list with the corresponding tag. Which is fine with me, I guess, since I'd rather use the BBCode tags directly anyway, Ideally, if you mark a text passage and then click any of the formatting buttons in the full editor, it would convert the entire text. The list button should, for UI consistency reasons, ALSO put the selected text into a list as the first bullet point.
Still missing numbered lists (1,2,3, ...), also lettered ones (a,b,c, ...). But those are mionor details.

I am having problems allocating text colour to links. It used to work in the previous forum release but here is what is happening now.

here is an example of how it works successfully for text but then not for links:

Was there some backup/restore action?
One of my posts has gone missing (in the "Logan" thread). Not that it was particularly valuable, but data loss usually isn't a good sign, so I figured I should report it.

I believe you will find polls are available now. In the Full Editor, look to the lower left, down by the "Attachment Manager"... you should see "Poll Manager".

Well, I created a poll using POLL manager but upon completion I was unable to locate it. Where is the POLL stored. I am sure I have to link it into a post to make it visible but I didn't get any feedback on how to use it after submission.

OK... A question for you. Did you create the poll in a reply message to an existing topic ( thread ), or did you start a new topic with the poll in the first post in that topic?

If you didn't try it as a first post in a new topic, please try that and see if it works for you. ( It may not show up in the "Preview New Thread" but it should show up in the post after you "Post New Thread" )

In the interest of assessing how many people would like to see the following two issues resolved, I have set up a Poll to capture your feedback and if it is deemed important enough hopefully the forum will accomodate a change to re-instate these two features lost to us in the upgrade.
I have used Poll Manager from the "Post Options" panel for the first time so let's hope it works and shows up here:

Poll to determin interest in re-instating two features lost in the forum upgrade
multiple choice, up to 2 choices
Votes accepted starting: 03/10/17 09:18 PM
You must vote before you can view the results of this poll.

It's still a recent update, things will get ironed out. Might post about it in the site feedback forum. It could be that not all of the same features are available.

The avatar and signature image features are now enabled. Be advised the the signature image feature is still being experimented with. It may be that you need to upload the image via use of the Attachment Manager in a forum post, and then reference that image location using the image tags in your profile's signature. (I haven't had any success with referencing an image on some other server as of this writing).

Edit: It appears that the image you want in your signature needs to be on the SimHQ server. You can post the image in a forum posting, right click on it to copy that image location to your clipboard, and then post that location between the image tags in your profile ediitor.

Keep in mind that (per the Forum Help menu entry):
Quote
We ask that you keep your images relatively small. As a rule, please do not exceed 600 x 125 pixels and/or 35k for a signature image. This will ensure that the forums load quickly for all users.

This might seem strange coming from someone who probably has more pics on this board than anyone, but I'm not keen on avatar and signature pics (or signatures at all), it makes for too much clutter.

But I guess that's progress and I'll adapt. smile
