Finally has a start date - July 16.

Heard about the little fiasco from HBO trying to reveal the date on social media: http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/09/entertainment/game-of-thrones/index.html

"For the Facebook promo is dark and full of nothing". :wacky

Anyway...hard to believe this is the beginning of the end. Did GRRM will ever release The Winds of Winter? Not that it matters if the show is its own thing now.

From all the loose ends, looking forward to the Iron Islands and The Hound and Cersei's storylines resolution. Aria is now too Ninja OP for me to care.

(I recommend all the GoT videos in this channel. Very informative, especially if you have not read the books).

Yeah, I'm counting the days until season 7 starts. I finished watching season 6 last October!

I know more major characters will be killed off between this season and the final season 8 but I just really hope that Brienne of Tarth, Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister make it through.

I forsee Jamie Lannister and Bron going down in glorious flames as brothers in arms. ;-)

No, book 6 still has not been released. Book 7 is due sometime before we all forget about the series finale which we will have seen so many years in the past...

This raises some interesting questions - I don't believe this situation has ever
arisen before: a book series is serialized for television, and the TV overtakes
the books, but is allegedly intending to diverge its storyline. What I wonder is,
will people want to buy the books after the series finishes and resolves perhaps
significantly differently? Will they object if two significantly different endings
are presented in the two media?Or will this be embraced, and become a new
trend - tell the story telegenically for tv, and make a vaguely related one for
text?

Book 7 will pick up in the future, 18 generations after Tormund Giantsbane, Sansa Stark, and Yara Greyjoy are married as "The King and Queens in the North" and soundly defeat the remnants of Danaerys Targaryen's forces after the army of the undead wipes out her Dothraki. Her dragons are defeated by The Night King.

By that time Winter would have Come... and got up to take a shower and then slipped out of the room leaving some money on the end table for the taxi.

I'll be very curious to see how many previously unknown cast members from GOT will go on to have high profile Hollywood film careers after the show is done. Emilia Clarke is already getting some high profile jobs like with Terminator and now the Han Solo Star Wars film.

I was surprised to see Pedro Pascal in "The Great Wall". So there's one guy who went from TV series to Hollywood now after appearing on GoT.

Currently watching Season 6 as I finally got the BluRays last week. Yeah I'm way behind.

I hope they bring Martin in to write the last two seasons by himself. Benioff and Weiss fell apart halfway through season five and it was sketchy forever thereafter aside from a couple(or so) of exceptional episodes.

Martin is out. His publisher is (understandably) impatient to get book 6 and the series has been a distraction for him.

Meanwhile, over the years many characters in the books have been killed off in the show because they needed someone to die but the show has fewer characters than the books did. So Grenn for example dies in the battle of the wall in the show but is alive and well at the end of book 5 IIRC. Martin does not have the time to make two parallel stories. Had book 7 come out years ago, yeah, he could've written these final seasons, but not ahead of time.

Anyway, winter is finally here as of the finale of S6, so it's going to be cold and snowy in the remaining eps...aside perhaps from Dorne. smile

Just read that the final season will have 6 episodes. Those 6 will be mighty epic I presume.

Assuming they have a similar budget, it depends on how much CGI effects they will need.

Adding the dragons and the white walkers as regular characters must have absorbed a big chunk of the money they had for more episodes.

I still hope they are 90 minute episodes instead.

I believe the endgame of the TV series is the same as the books will have, but they might take different paths there. But Martin has told the showrunners what his overall plans for the series is.

They said they planned originally for 70 episodes/hours.

They will end with 73, with the final 10 expanded into 7 and 6.

Really, it's Twilight/Hunger Games/Harry Potter Pt 1 and 2 but for TV.

HBO decided against a final 13 episode season I guess, two gives them two more years instead of one.

Understandable from a business perspective. They know that a lot of people sign up for HBO when the GOT season starts and then cancel it when the season ends. So might as well stretch it out!

Finally finished watching Season 6 last weekend.

Battle of the Bastards was stupid. Very. I wanted to get up and strangle Jon trough the TV screen. Not sure why they needed to make him temporarily stupid

However, some of the later episodes in S6 show an outstanding amount of good dialogue, acting and personality. The siege of the Blackfish for example. Also the High Sparrow came into being and the Septon with the Hound had some good moments. House Greyjoy, especially Asha. And Sansa finding her dark side as she feeds the Roose to the dogs.

The increased CGI and effects are also welcome - remember the first battle scene in the entire show where Tyrion gets knocked on the head and thus they didn't need to show a single bit of fighting? For sure that has changed quite a bit because the cinematics of the BoB were just grand.

The only thing that bothered me about the battle was the predictable use of deus ex machina with Bailish and the soldiers of the Veil coming to save the day.

Why men throw their lives away attacking an armed Witcher... I'll never know. Something wrong with my face?
