[Re: JJJ65]
I uninstalled the FM Roll damping mod because I found it too rhythmic and constant.
But I believe (not at my PC) I have installed Ankor's Enhanced head movement MOD and that I find very much more realistic and unpredictable. When I "cranked up" the wind speed with your mod to maximum, the cockpit view and to a lesser extent the chase view..had me on the brink of queasy after not too long.
Pretty realistic I found. Great work guys!

Just for info - I am testing (in video) new FM Roll damping mod v2.0, that is quite different from previously released version. However, you are right, due to nature of this mod, it can be rhytmic, because of constant adjusting of roll tendency by AI pilots. However, ingame constant pitch corrections/movement are rather rhytmic either.

The video looks great JJJ65! I thought that you had discarded the project of adding in roll to the flight model altogether. It will look rhythmic to some extent, but to my eyes it still looks more natural than virtually no roll at all in the normal sequence of flight. Not sure how you work your magic, but I'm very appreciative that you are! Thanks. Looking forward to the final release.

Thanks for support, Hellshade. I feel the some - for me it is more natural a rhytmical wing movement than none. I do not like to give up so easy . I tried to improve an airplane behaviour and controls responsiveness that was so impacted in former versions of mod and, I think, I managed that to some extent. I am going to prepare a mod of previous batch airplanes (from 1915 - 1916 period) for public test release soon.

Excellent stuff, sir. Please check your PMs for my first couple of flight tests. Personally, it feels like the feeling of flight has been improved considerably, at least during Heavy Rain. I haven't tried it in other weathers yet. Hopefully tonight! By the way, I did not notice ANY impact on control, unlike your first attempt.
Thanks, sir, I am really glad you enjoy it. Although, I must admit, this mod is far from perfect yet. It is just my latest poor attempt to create an illusion of more natural flight behaviour, especially in bad weather, without impact to airplane flight control. However, if you feel some aircraft are either too exaggerated or not noticeable, let me know it, pls. I will try to make necessary corrections. Thx.

I would say we should probably bring in someone who is much more familiar with how the planes behaved, in order to get a more accurate assessment. Maybe Robert Wiggins, Jim Miller, Creaghorn, Olham? Someone of better actual knowledge than myself. I can attest the feeling of flight has improved. Accuracy of specific plane types I really couldn't reliably say.
OK, for anyone interested in testing, here is the latest version of my Roll_mod experiment (WIP) Roll_mod Place it anywhere on your disc and run FM_Pacher.jar file, then click Apply mod button. [Re: JJJ65]
Has anyone else tried this? The in cockpit effect seems extremely well done, IMHO. It's likes like a natural extension of AnKors in cockpit G-Force effects update. I haven't noticed any downsides to it yet.
So, do you think it is OK to continue with 1917 - 1918 airplanes?
I haven't noticed any adverse effects. I don't see too much roll based wing wobble on planes externally (wingmen, etc), but the feeling inside the cockpit is excellent. I wish some others would give it a go at least in a quick combat setting and see what they think too, though.
Is this compatible with other FM mods that I may have created (ahem) for my own personal use? My guess is probably not. In other words, does this mod change the .xfm files?

Yes, it modifies *.xfm files, but the main advantage of this mod is, that it is compatible with any other mods. It overwrites only some values, no complete file. Just apply it as the last mod (over any of your mods), not before.

Hellsahde, does the wind/rough weather feel too "rhythmic" or does it feel real (I know it's hard to use that word)
There's some rhythm but I don't think its overly pronounced. Its certainly an improvement over no roll at all. You should try it for yourself and let me know what you think.
So I gave the roll mod a shot in my summer 1916 Strutter campaign with 70 Squadron and I love it.
When will I be able to add it to '17 and '18 with other types of aircraft?
It is awesome, isn't it? Doesn't seem to interfere with AI piloting but adds a wonderful look and feel to flight. JJJ has a lot on his plate, but he said he would look into getting the rest of the planes done. I can't wait.
Thanks guys. I am sincerely glad you like it. I will surely continue with other airplanes too, time allowing. P.S. Any richly peated Scotch from Islay is always welcome . Just kidding.

I just have ideas, like removing the skyline or adding roll to the flight model. It takes intelligent, talented people such as AnKor or JJJ65 to get anything done. Give me a donate button though and I will help try to push it along, but that's all I can do. Jara deserves all the credit for figuring this out and making it happen. Just a suggestion, it might be worth putting some annotations to the videos to explain what a mod does as it can be very hard for people who don't know what it does to see what something like the roll mod is doing without an explanation. (Or some comparison footage)
I thought it was something to do with flight models that made roll response slower! Now I understand that it adds roll motion to the wind gust/turbulence effects.

Hi JJJ,love your "roll" mod,I've tried it with the Alb and Neuip17 so far..and it's incredible.
A massive ask I know but..are you working on other craft I'd personally love the other Albs, the Camel and the SE5 ( I know I'm greedy).
All the best in your continued modding work pal

FYI JJJ has provided a simple utility to add in the roll factor or take it back out . Couldn't get any easier to try and undo if you don't like it. I have been using it for a while now and it's simply brilliant. I see no degrading of the flight controls and the AI hasn't crashed into one another once so far, even when flying in formation in heavy weather. It sure does look scary though! I literally don't want to fly a later year campaign until the rest of the planes get this. You can't go back after experiencing it, IMHO.

Thanks Adger +1. I know for a fact that RAF_Louvert had solicited feedback on his St Omer mod and to date he has only heard from afew.. In fact he probably is wondering if the mod was worthwhile effort. If a modder indicates he would like some feedback, those that use the mods should make every effort to provide it. That's how we get ongoing improvements. Just my 2 cents!

Robert, I know I've been guilty of that. I download these mods and enjoy them, and I only give feedback when I find something wrong--I never considered at least giving feedback saying that I've used it.
I agree, though, feedback should be given regardless.

Ok, I've had a bit of a go at this with the Fokker E.II and it seems pretty good to me so far.
The wind gusts tend to "grab" a wing at random and I didn't find it rhythmic or predictable in any way for my aircraft. Occasionally the way it affected the AI looked rhythmic but I'm convinced that it isn't the mod itself doing this, it's the way that the AI responds that gives this illusion,
Explanation, when the wind drops a wing on my aircraft I respond to it differently every time depending on how severe the effect is. The AI respond robotically, with the same inputs, each time. I feel as though this is what is giving people the impression of rhythm , not the mod itself. Combined with the up/down drafts I found the rhythmic phenomenon to be barely noticeable for the Fokker E.II and the mod to add a great dynamic component to the immersion factor.

Thx for trying the mod and your feedback, AcePilto. Yes, you are right, the AI roll behaviour is caused by AI aileron control in attempt to stabilize airplane under adverse wind conditions. If you feel it is too much, let me know what plane and I can make an adjustment. That is why I asked for more feedback.

I didn't feel it was too much JJJ, but then I've only tried it a couple of times now in a small formation of Fokker Eindeckers (E.II and III's). I imagine that it might have an appreciably different visual effect in a larger formation.
I really like the way it affects the player aircraft! Very convincing.

Quick question on your Roll Mod, is your program reading the xfm file and changing only roll related data and then rewriting the file, or is it doing a replace with a new xfm file?
Reason I ask, if I've got an FM mod on a plane (such as rate of climb or top speed - unrelated to roll), will your program overwrite it. I know my mod will overwrite your Roll Mod, as I'm dropping in a new file with JSGME.
So trying to figure out what happens to my FM mod if I run yours on top of mine.
Thanks!

That is the main advantage of Roll Mod - you can use it over any other third party mods - just install your mod(s) and finally apply the Roll mod. Roll mod just reads and overwrites some values in xfm files, as you have correctly assumed.

Just want to say in all the time I have been flying with this mod, even during heavy winds, I've never had an AI to AI or AI to me mid-air collision, including during tight formations. They bounce around a bit more but they don't lose control. Outstanding work, Jara. I hope more people will try it.

Been flying the hell out of the Albs DIII, DV, DVa, etc and having a great time. The squadron was finally allocated a DR1 and I must say that I immediately noticed the difference in the feeling of flight while in the cockpit and watching the AI handle their planes. I look forward to the day when, hopefully, the remaining plane set gets modded for the roll effect as well. It feels far more natural to me than the vanilla FM. Of course everyone can say their own opinion of how much roll effect should be shown with each various plane, but at least in my mind there is no doubt that this mod is a substantial improvement over where it is in stock WOFF UE. Thanks Jara! I can't tell you how much I appreciate this mod.

Hi Todd. Honestly, I have modded just few planes since the latest update, because it is really time consuming work and, what is the main drawback, it is only possible by trial and error on gaming PC. Unfortunately, I have really limited time on my gaming PC due to RL. Is there any volunteer for testing? I can provide him with template file for testing purposes and we would be able to finish the modding of entire planeset in shorter time. I think, we should mod ca 36 planes yet.

Resurrecting a "Necro thread" here - but have either Ace or Banjoman had a chance to play with the JJJs FMs to allow for the "roll effect" during wind turbulence? I know that sadly, I have not. I got caught up between real life stuff and DMing for a D&D campaign. Has anyone else tried or messed with the mod? I think it's such a wonderful addition to the "feel" of flying. What are your thoughts?
Honestly, no progress from my side except two or three additional aircraft FMs modded. I have not received any results/message/files from Banjoman or Ace_Pilto yet and no more volunteers joined our team since.

I have also been using your mod, and although I do little campaign flying (I am more the modding and testing type), it works fine and adds a nice level of realism to the flight behavior of the AI planes. I particularly like how they seem to bob and wobble a bit in the wind. I have not noticed any increase in the number of in-flight collisions since I started using the mod. I would definitely be interested if you added any additional planes to the mod. Good job!

I highly recommend that anyone using the cloud mod also use JJJ's Mission Editor. It is highly intuitive and easy to use. Although the cloud mod works independently of the ME, many of the better cloud and fog effects are only possible if you use the ME, including less cloud popping and banding. However, the difference is still very small, so you can still enjoy the cloud mod even without the ME.
If you or anyone else has any questions, either JJJ or myself will be more than happy to help.

The clouds and fog in the sky along with the snow on the ground is enough to give me a shiver! In fact, the video looks a lot like it does throughout the winter months here in the midwest!

I got to fly multiple missions in an SE5a and a Fokker DVII and it was great. I didn't think the effect was over pronounced at all and yet it still added nicely to the illusion of real flight. I wish more folks would try out this incredible work. For me, it's a "Must have" mod and now it includes the vast majority (60+) of the planes in WOFF UE!
Jara - thank you for doing this. You and all the other modders rock!
Haven,t flown for a while but im looking forward to testing your Roll mod v2 out. Just a quick one Jara... I found the mod here by chance is there any way you could put it in its own thread like your Mission editor..it might get a few more downloads just my 2p worth..Apoligies if it is in its own thread i could,nt find it. Another quick one if thats ok? your populated airfields mod overwrites some details from Roberts Consolidated facilities mod is this normal ? Thanks again for your work mate

Adger don't worry about the over write. It's ok. I vetted that with Jara (JJJ65) some time ago.

Thanks Robert Should i install your mod 1st or Jaras populated airfield? many thanks. im hoping to test the FPS for your airfields soon,i had hoped to do it last night but i had a problem (game crashing with a DLL problem). It took me some time to sort out and found the culprit to be MSI Afterburner.

@Adger, install Robert's Consolidated Facilities mod first, than overwrite it with Realistically Populated Airfields mod (accept overwriting files in JSGME - ref. to attached Readme file).

[Re: JJJ65]
Yes, that is correct. My apologies, I just forgot to update an application header to read 2.2 . There were no any changes to code, only to data *.csv file.
