Watched it on YT this morning. Looks like something that they decided to cut from the movie and instead of leaving it for a deleted scene on the DVD they put it out now.

I know it's only a 5 minute clip or so but my main concern is that this crew chemistry won't be anywhere near as good as it was in the original Alien.

Too many characters, so the sense of intimacy of the first one will be difficult to capture, or lost.

Also, I think they went for the modern social relationship, since they say this is a colonization mission. Seem to be some couples around the table.

I will miss the union contract conflicts with the company regarding bonuses....well, not really.

Yeah I thought about that as well. A lot of unprotected sex will be going on in that colony ASAP! lol

I'm not sure one of those couples is going to help populate the planet, but who knows what they've figured out in the future like that.
Just an observation for practical purposes of colonization, mind you.
Wouldn't they need a whole lot more people to really colonize? Those are going to be some inbred MF'ers otherwise. I'm not sure populating a planet with kids with 2 left feet and 3 thumbs is helpful.

I might imagine they're crewing a transport ship of colony hibernators, given what we've seen in all the other movies.

Can't shake the feeling that this movie wouldn't be made if the characters weren't all so much dumber than the crew in "Prometheus." They have androids and did not consider using them to test the air for biological and chemical dangers?

James Franco is a good actor but my first impression is that he was miscast for this movie.

Yes. He sticks out like a sore thumb in a sci-fi movie. I felt the same of the casting of Woody Harrelson in the Han Solo movie.

But I guess actors now dream of having any part of a successful franchise. Especially with Disney. Lots of good money and the royalties will keep food on the table in between the artsy projects and the bombs.

A brief moment where he's supposed to be sick is hardly telling. I didn't think he would amount to much in the Planet of the Apes reboot, either, but he did that well.

I was shocked to see Woody in the Han Solo picture! I like him, but more in the Zombieland type role. LOL
I'm guessing Franco is the equivalent of Tom Skerritt in this, but he's no Tom Skerritt. I hope they do something original with this and not just an Alien remake.

Hopefully this won't be a "The Force Awakens" syndrome part II. biggrin

Prometheus was original. Make of that what you will.

Prometheus got halfway to being a great flick. Let's hope this one gets closer to 100%.

Loved the look and the dark mood of "Prometheus". Hated the non-sensical motivations of some of the characters.

I did not like that they removed the "alien" from Alien when they released Prometheus.

Prometheus was not terrible.

Overall in the series, it ranks above Resurrection and Alien 3 for me.

Stylistically though, it is as memorable as the first two movies.

The premise was great, just the rushed storytelling and mostly unlikable characters ruined it.

Only David and the ship captain (Idris Elba) did I find to be memorable in any way. Everyone else was a cookie-cutter "script by the numbers" type.
