Yes, it is since yesterdays server "upgrade". It is really weird. Also, it is impossible to add pictures into post anymore . Time to move to old, combatace forum?
@Sandbagger How did you manage that? I lost this feature/icon from Full Editor and Personal Messages. Should I reenable this feature anywhere? Probably need admin rights?

I added images by linking to my Photobucket as I don't tend to use the full editor 'insert image link' function, which is still available for me. Previous threads still have their images showing so the capability is still there to show them.

Wow. Dropped in for a quick visit between road trips and saw this new format. Not too keen on it at the moment, and the limited ability to post pics is kind of a deal breaker. JJJ65, your suggestion of moving back over to the old CA forums is looking pretty good right now, plus we could have our signature images back again - I really miss those.

Same reaction here, I'm afraid. Logged in this morning, thought my browser had broken the site...
I had to move this image to my Dropbox and then I could post it, but they've removed any and all of the abilities to edit the image. I'm with you guys, I really don't like the new layout. It will be really hard now to write our stories for the Centenary DID.
The thing that ticks me off the most is the lack of support by the forum owners. I have been waiting two weeks after sending multiple messages to them about a problem and I have not heard a word from any of them!! It wasn"t like that at CA!

Also at the very bottom of the forum window there is an option to change the layout. It is probably set to the old default of woff fixed.
For a short term fix try changing to UBBCentral-Crimson (I like that better)
I think the woff fixed will need to be fixed again - Pol mentioned WOFF had a custom one.
That didn't help me at all Stache.

Robert, I think this is how we are going to upload pictures from now on, unless you use some kind of image hosting site.

Check my post in the Third Wire Series section here at SimHQ, Robert. I've been waiting for support at ComatAce for about 2 weeks myself. I can login, but I can't post, or download, or even see forumn discussions.
So I don't know if things are better over there or not, support wise.

I know this is wishful thinking but it would go a long way to giving each user the look that he wants by allowing some configurable capability.
I personally loose the left columns on my cell phone and so have to specify web native view to get it all. That shouldn't be the case and I could overcome it if they would let me do the following:

I just discovered another issue. You can no longer apply particular font colours to your text when using the "Link" feature.
I also do not like the "attachment" methodology for pictures because you cannot properly annotate them and custom place them in your post.
Geez. I wish they would do some cursory testing to identify these issues and at least take some time to see if there is a workaround or assess the impact on the community. Oh well, it is what it is I guess.

As for using the WOFF Fixed layout - from what I read yes that will have problems - It has not been updated. The one recommended by the forum admins is the Crimson one.
It works okay for me and looks good on my phone.

Robert, we seem to be stuck with this less than perfect upgraded forum. They seem to love it over on the SimHQ forums, so I guess we will just have to get used to it. It's a shame because this will really negatively impact our ability to weave our stories.

There is this old saying, "If it aint broke, don't fix it"
Well, that's just it. It was "broke" by current standards, as it didn't work well on tablets. For some people, that was a big deal, as for whatever reason they use tablets for accessing the forums a lot, instead of a desktop PC or laptop.
Also, it should be kept in mind that SimHQ / RacerGT didn't code / write the forum software. It is Powered by UBB.threads™ PHP Forum Software. They had a new version that was tablet friendly, plus other improvements/fixes, so SimHQ updated to it. I suspect that were I in RacerGT's shoes, I would have made the same decision to update the forum software to the newer version.
I prefer the earlier method of image insertion in forum posts though, and wish we still had it for Private Messages too. So it goes, sometimes. (I imagine UBB threads new Attachment Manager enables some advantageous things for some types of forums)

Cyber, I made some suggestions to Murphy on how to resolve a few of these problems and I think it can be addresses if Racer dialogues with UBB on this. There are PHP coding methodologies that will work. Racer just has to actively push for a solution.
One thing that would help and is possible with PHP coding is to make the forum columns dynamically stretch/shrink to allow all columns to be visible on mobile devices and not truncate the "last post" column. It is doable. Fixed column widths is not desirable.

The appreciation should go to RacerGT. The rest of us try to help out where we can, but this stuff is his baby. We just hand him the wet wipes occasionally.
Still it does not work on my Ipad, the half of the page is white! Strangely when I'm not logged in, the page shows everything, but soon when I do the login it starts showing the half of the page good and the rest white, while the complete site is being blocked for navigating. I'm not using any add blocker and the browser is the plain Apple safari. On Windows10, Google highly blocking all the adds, trojans and cookies this site runs fine, so let me guess I have to block all the adds/cookies from SimHQ to keep on running this website on my Ipad? For me it does not have any sense in injecting my game desktop computer with all the internet crap, so if this SimHQ forum is not working on the Ipad, then sorry to say this forum does not have any use for me, because I'm using the Ipad for all the internet/Email activities.
Right now it is for me byby and hoping OBD does reconsider to swapping over to an problem free website.
Which version number of Safari are you running on your iPad?
Have you tried any of the alternate Styles available on the Style Chooser pull down menu at the bottom of the screen?
Yep that was the trick, it is working now, using Woff fixed, normally I could not read that because the last 50% of the webpage was white. I will delete my hars topic, sorry I was very frustrated while I could not read the Woff forum nor could see the solution for this problem.

You may know this already, but in case somebody doesn't.
If you wanted those to show up in the body of the post...
This is the first image:
Insert and interesting story, or whatever...
This is the second image:
----------------------
Basically... Right click on the Attached File image (You should be able to do that using the Preview Reply mode) and "Copy Link Location" to put it in your Windows Clipboard, then use the Full Editor's Insert Image Link, paste the Clipboard's link location into that. Repeat as necessary for each image, placing them within the text where you want to them to appear.
There may be an easier way that I haven't noticed yet. If somebody knows one, they are encouraged to share their knowledge.

Cyberkut;
Thanks for adding your instructions. I personally am quite aware of the process. The test post I put up was done because it was the only way I could copy the image location and port it over to a PM I was sending to someone. As you are probably aware, the PM process does not allow you to attach images because the interface is not there yet. Hopefully you folks are working on resolving that issue.
Best Regards

I tried some of the other layouts. I guess it works. I think the issue I was primarily having was with the pre-update images spilling over into the new layout. The new, sadly small, images fit better.
So, do I understand that it is possible to directly upload pics to SimHQ again, just with some jiggery pokery?
Cyberkut, I hope this isn't taken the wrong way. But, given the centrality of screenshot uploading to the forums in general, I'm uncertain why the method wasn't identified as a big detractor from the upgrade choice.
I don't know what the decision process was, as the decision was RacerGT's alone to make. I would guess that it was probably some combination of gaining the proper support for mobile devices (which are a growing segment of how the forums are accessed) and staying up-to-date in general as a means to better ensure security from hacking, etc. If I were in RacerGT's shoes, those considerations would have weighed heavily on my mind.
UBB threads serves many communities, so I'm inclined to think that the new version's framework is a product of hard won lessons from various forum operators. Bringing in support for mobile devices, with their smaller screens had to have involved making some compromises, or at least some other ways to deal with how some things are displayed. The online world has evolved in another way, too. Not all that long ago, people were limited more by connection speed (ie. Rate of throughput), whereas now, some people are running up against data caps instead. Either of those limits can put image size at a premium for some people.
EDIT: Almost missed the image upload question... Yes, you can upload images. When you are in the Full Editor, look down to the lower left. Click on the "Attachment Manager". Images uploaded through that will show up as thumbnails along the bottom of the post. If you want them to display as larger images in the body of the post's text, then refer to http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4343158/re-forum-layout-wierd#Post4343158.

Yes, sorry. I was asking about thread posting. I didn't realize that the thread was PM specific.
Thanks for the reply CyBerKut. I guess, having never had a problem with the forums on either of my iDevices, I didn't realize this was a problem. I'll need to look at that thread and see what I can make of it. The screenshot and art threads here have sort of fallen off, which is unfortunate since there was some beautiful work being done there. :-)
Folks, if you're seeing a slowdown of some sort, I strongly recommend you post about it over in the Site Feedback & Suggestions section, where RacerGT is more likely to see it. Describe/define it as best as you can.

CyBerKut, when we use the term "slow down" we aren't talking about response time, we are talking about visitors. Before the upgrade this forum was a busy, bustling place. Everyday we would have multiple threads going, but since the upgrade the traffic has almost completely ceased. Could be the time of year, but my fear is that the members really don't like the upgrade and are not coming back. Anyway, that's what we mean when we say 'slow'.

I agree i dont know whats going on but..the forum has been quieter since the change.
I dont think anybodys posted in the screenshot thread for a fortnight
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
I posted a screenshot in the Art thread to try and revive it, but you're right everyone has vanished.

In my case this "upgrade" became inconvenient. I am unable to post any replies with my 1st gen iPad. I don't see the reply window:
To post this picture I had to take it with my iPad, send it to my rig, go downstairs and turn on my computer, simply so that I can post. If the aim was to be convenient for the mobile devices they've succeeded. I am much more mobile now that I have to go up and down the stairs to post. Good for my health I guess. Bad for my forum activity. Trying not to complain since no one is expected to support a 7-year old device, but it worked fine before the upgrade and the reason for it was to make it work better with such devices.

That is very strange that your picture shows like this:

Strange indeed. Looked ok after I had posted, then I went up the stairs (heh, heh), looked at it on the iPad and the image was gone. Went down the stairs and fixed it.

The added difficulty in posting seems to be putting a bit of a drag on posting in general for WOFF. Too hard to post pics, etc. Probably no chance of rolling back, I presume.

Hmmm... 3 questions come to mind.
1. What is displayed to you when you select "Submission Detail" tab at the top?
2. What happens when you select "Use Full Editor" at the bottom?
3. Is there a newer version (or different) web browser that you can use on that device?

Hey CyBerkut,
1. Unrelated. Just another tab open to another website. (Trying to get my rebate from EVGA).
2. Pretty much the same thing - no reply window:
3. No newer version for iOS 5.1.1 - this is as high as she goes. This is also a case of tail wagging the dog. After 7 years of using Safari I'm not about to switch to a different browser because of one website.

Wow, that is weird with the editor.
I understand about not switching your web browser. I was thinking more along the lines of an additional web browser, rather than getting rid of your existing Safari. But, you may not have enough storage space left open to accommodate having a second browser.
Do you get the same results (No Reply Window) when you select a different style (The pull down menu at the bottom of the page)?
Yup, same result on any style scheme. I even tried enabling pop-ups. No worries. I know it's Safari. Reply window shows up on later versions of Safari. Tried it on my wife's iPhone that is able to update to later version of Safari. I will be forced to upgrade to a new iPad eventually.

Hi all, I to was a little confused when the forum presentation changed, but rest assured, Racer and the SimHQ team are continuing to work their way through the latest UBB layouts. We all have ideas on how things should be and there is always a reluctance to change - 'if it ain't broke' - look at the world of F1 as an example. However please give the team time to work their way through the changes and give us all the best compromise the system will allow,
Thanks.
