1. In 1758 George Washington applied for a commission with the British Army but was turned down. (I wonder how differently the Revolutionary War would have occurred had Washington been accepted?) 2. Adolf Hitler had a nephew who served in the US Navy during WWII - William Patrick Stuart-Houston 3. Contrary to popular belief, Hitler was not short but in fact was 5"9 which was average height for a European male at the time. 4. Joseph Stalin as a young teen was originally earmarked by his parents to go into the Russian Orthodox ministry. Please feel free to add more to the list!

Patrick Hitler was actually a british citizen IIRC, went in his uncle Germany for some years during the '30s and had there a quite lazy and dissolute life till things went down between him and his half uncle. After having been threatened by the Gestapo he flew back in the UK and then in the USA where he gave numerous lectures about his experiences with Hitler. Later he enlisted in the US Navy, probably for intelligence purposes related to the study of his uncle psychology. That made some headlines in the media. He disappeard from the public life after the war. Two sons of him are still living , bearing a different last name, none of them having children...

Patrick Hitler was a Pharmacist's Mate in the USN.
Born: 12 March 1911 Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Abraham Lincoln spent some time in Monroe Maryland. John F. Kennedy spent some time in Marilyn Monroe. Okay, never mind that. Did you know that Kenneth Taylor, who took off in the middle of the attack on Pearl Harbor and shot down four Japanese planes, was turned down for the Medal of Honor? The Army said it was because he took off without orders!

Tenth US President John Tyler was born in 1790. He took office in 1841, when William Henry Harrison died. He died in 1862.
And he has two living grandchildren: Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr. born in 1924, and Harrison Ruffin Tyler born in 1928.

Hitler was not a German, and Stalin wasn't Russian. Both spoke with pronounced foreign accents. Braunau is just across the river though from Bavaria so Hitler was close! Stalin though was pure Georgian through and through and he hated that.

Stalin was short, even for his time. And Hitler's propaganda minister, Goebbels, was practically an elf. Hermann Goerring, the leader of the Luftwaffer was legally Jewish (on one side of his family). His Nazi buddies looked the other way because of his WWI heroics and because Hitler loved him. Cynically, Goerring, in an attempt to save his own skin, pleaded at his trial that because he was Jewish he couldn't possibly have been complicit in the Holocaust. It didn't work.

Cynically, Goerring, in an attempt to save his own skin, pleaded at his trial that because he was Jewish he couldn't possibly have been complicit in the Holocaust. It didn't work. Unfortunately for Goring, the Nuremburg tribunal had the actual document that was signed by him authorizing Reinhard Heydrich to set up the logistics and overall plan to carry out the "Final Solution". This of course lead to the infamous meeting known as the "Wannsee Conference".

The oldest operating school in the world is The King's School in Canterbury, England, at 1,420 years old. It was founded in AD 597 during the Late Antiquity era, 100 years after the fall of Rome.

With maybe only the School of Hard Knocks ever surpassing that.
