Domestic box office attendance has been stagnant for years now so Hollywood needs China in order to survive as a viable business. So for better or worse that means more Hollywood films with Chinese actors and Chinese themes.

You are too concerned with what was and what will be. There is a saying: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

They have a ride at Universal Studios theme park based on the film. It's short but I liked it. Amazing what they're doing with the 3D idea on all of these rides. Pretty cool.

How many times has "The Great Wall" been pushed back? Wasn't it suppose to be out last year? It's the year of the Rooster for gods sake!

HIs star power bankability and this movie is really being aimed more at US audiences than Chinese.

Hollywood meme: You have to have a white hero. The same for The Last Samurai and countless other movies including westerns that focused on Indian tribes. Somehow you have to weave a white hero in there and cast it accordingly. White hero saves the day. White American audiences want to see a recognizable white hero even if the premise is preposterous.

For sure there are a few black actor led movies, but the phenomena described by Plainsman holds true I reckon.

The great majority of Hollywood film producers and studio executives are white. Therefore it's no surprise that the majority of movie hero lead roles go to white actors.

Maybe Hollywood should really live up to its liberal reputation and install some kind of affirmative action scheme?

The US as a whole is also 64% white and 13% black so maybe it's much ado about nothing.

Hollywood is BASED on discrimination. The only (accepted) industry that can call for hiring "hot, white, blonde, mid20s, willing to work topless" and have hundreds to pick from without getting sued.

Excellent point Raw and one that should be pretty obvious to everyone but apparently it is not.
