Was going to build a similar AR, but for the price/features was hard pressed to beat the price I got it for. Definitely glad I did, fit/balance is perfect for me. Threw a Steiner P4xi on top, zeroed for 200m, paired it with a Stoeger M3K and PPQ and took it to a local match to see how well it (and poorly I) performed. smile

First stage was close up, that muzzle brake really does its job well. Not that 5.56 is a beast, but a drastic difference when trying to make rapid double taps on multiple targets. The scope is a dream, clear as can be and the red dot on ~half power is very bright, even in the Florida sun. Very glad I went with it over a couple lower cost options I was considering.

A better test came later, with targets running from 10 to 325yds. Was able to land quick (for me) first round hits on all targets. Again the brake impressed me, transitions were a snap.

Hoping to take it to the 600yd line this weekend to see what I can do with it.

That is some nice equipment. I just got one of the Walther PPQ's. I'm old school and this is my first striker fired pistol with the safety on the trigger. Very different from what I have spent my life with, but an excellent pistol with a perfect trigger.

Yeah, you have some great equipment.

600 yards. Is that the Manatee Range ?

Walther really put out a winner. Couple years ago I was at a shop's indoor range when the owner handed me a PPQ M1. After about 30 seconds I said order me one. smile Primarily shoot wrong handed but am able to do either so the paddle version is ideal. Only thing I've done is change out the sights for Dawson Precisions.

Yep, Manatee Gun Club, they have 600 & 1k yard lines with ready steel targets or can place stands/paper. Definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting to let their rifles stretch their legs a bit. It's a bit remote but I've easily gotten my memberships worth.

Nice guns.

I am curious about how you grip your pistol - any information on holding it like that with your left thumb going under the slide like that? That would make me real nervous about slide bite.

Quality red dot sights are amazing - they really do make you faster and more accurate.

He is left-handed.

Yeah, have to look at it backwards. smile Little bar above the AR trigger is a Knights Armamament ambi mag release to help on that front.

That's one crazy-long magazine! Do you ever have to shoot prone?

I've never had a problem using a thumbs forward grip, just don't use it with a revolver.

It really depends on stage design. Prefer not to if it's optional and a pistol transition is required; rules require handgun not be chambered if prone. Will use a 20 or 30rnd if prone shots are required or low round count needed, otherwise the 40s nearly always guarantee no reload unless things go very wrong.

Have you tried a Suerfire 60 ? I have a couple and have had no reliability issues. They are actually shorter than a 40 rounder.

I have kind of an old guy question on these collapsible or minimalist stocks - where does one put the cheek for a cheek-to-stock weld when aiming?

Granted I'm a dinosaur that thinks the tip of one's nose should go on the charging handle for a consistent sight picture, but it seems like the marksmanship I learned with the M16 series of weapons is out of the window.

But how heavy / balanced is that combo? They make a 100 rd Surefire too, that seems like that would be like hefting a SAW!

Better balance than that 40 rounder. A bit heavier. Maybe tomorrow I'll load one of all three (30,40,60) and post.

I don't have one of the 100 round.

Dart, it's fixed. Since I have orangutan arms I found I always had the collapsibles at max anyway and this way no chance of a rattling stock. Placement for this one is on the cheek piece, the scope's relief is just shy of 4".

I would like to grab a surefire, for the time being though cheap me won the battle in my head when I was able to snag a couple 40s for $11 each. They are certainly more compact than the pmag, and better to have and not need another 20 rnds. smile

I really liked the Surefire mags, too. The 100 round one is just too long, though. I'd rather get a Beta C in that case and have the mag stick out sideways. But I don't shoot ARs very often, anymore.
