So someone is making another King Kong origin story? It's hard to believe that Peter Jackson's Kong film is already 12 years old.

Same here. I frankly don't know why they are even bothering. I've not heard of any high profile viral internet campaigns from fans clamoring for a new King Kong film

My educated guess is that this new Kong movie is being made in order to capitalize on the success of the current Planet of the Apes franchise from Fox. You know, just throw in lots of action and an angry gorilla and it's basically the same thing....

How about Indian Rim Job?

No, this is being made because of the success of Godzilla. This film ties directly into the 2014 film. There will be a sequel to that film, and they will have a Kong/Godzilla film in the next few years to bring them together.
Nothing to do with the Planet series, all to do with Universal trying to reboot their stuff like Jurassic Park.

Ah so we'll get to see Godzilla fight King Kong. Well this can't be possibly worse than AVP Requiem at least.

On the contrary, the writers have plenty. Their scripts just aren't being made into films.
I was reading an interview with Gore Verbinski on the failed attempt to get Bioshock on screen. Bottom line--to do it "right" meant big budget R rating, and no studio wanted to bet on that. Either PG-13 or cut the budget so you lose the sets and visuals that made Bioshock...well, Bioshock.
There's plenty of fresh ideas out there from the writers. But all the people with the money say "no" and insist on safe bets because they want more money.

The moral of the story? Become a wealthy multi-millionaire so you can fund your own film production and distribution.

Screen writers must have lost original thought. Almost every new movie coming out is being recycled.
That's how my pal and me went while watching the ads before Rogue One:
1, We recognised every sequel/recycle (Planet of the Apes, King Kong, TripleX,...) 2, When it stopped at the screen of ice-cream available right now at the box office we couldn't recognize a single sort of it. (Like Homer'd say: What happened to good old..)
No. It's a ToHo knock off, having nothing to do with the original (or PJ's) production of KK. The idea is to eventually pair off King Kong verses Godzilla in 2020. Godzilla gets his second US version next year. Hollywood seems intent on bringing back old franchises. Tom Cruise's MUMMY is a rebirth of the old Universal monster movies from the 30s. Expect to see Wolfman and a few others of that ilk in the near future.
Innovation comes with risk, while rehash has some amount of lower risk. The Hollywood maxim holds true: everyone wants to be first to do something second.
"They might look the same, but they don't taste the same."
I'll go and watch, but still irritated by all the parachuting of Chinese "actresses" into every Hollywood wanna-be blockbuster. Most of them can't act, full stop. One of those is right there in this new Kong movie.
Cheers, Slug
