Hi chaps,

I bought CLoD when it first came out and haven't really flown it very much over the years. Firstly because of it's failings and a slow PC and then after Team Fusion worked their miracles, I still didn't have a rig powerful enough to run it in anything like it's full glory. I've recently got a new PC principally for my photographic and graphics work and also of course for CloD so some of you will have noticed that I'm back to modding and film making again. smile. Takes me back to the old days of IL-2 and all the work that I did with MAT Manager etc.

Thanks to all that have done so much to transform the game into what it is today.

Cheers

Aces

looks great Aces

I have not flown CLOD in quite a while, but I have between six and seven hundred hours into this sim.

Much time spent in the mission builder and taking screenshots

Hi guys,

Yes, it's finally the sim I've been waiting for for a very long time.

The cockpit isn't the in-game cockpit it's my own virtual cockpit for devicelink http://www.mediafire.com/file/rv04dr2hz2qp9jr/Aces_cockpit_remakes_for_CloD_V7.rar if you've got a second monitor hooked up, so I can put a dashboard pic wherever and whatever size I like smile All my new cockpits have a picture somewhere on the dashboards.

@archermav here's how to get a dashboard pic.

In your C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD\DashPics\Templates folder or C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\DashPics\Templates folder if you're not running Team Fusion version you'll find several TGA files including a file named "Blank.TGA" this is, a as the name suggests, a blank file of the right dimensions for the dash pic. (256x256 pixels).

You need to take whatever pic you'd like to use and use a suitable graphics/picture editor such as GIMP. Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro etc. to resize your chosen picture to the same size as the Blank.TGA file (256x256 pixels).

Then save this file as a TGA / Truevision Targa file with the filename 1.TGA in the following directory C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD\DashPics\Selected or C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\DashPics\Selected folder if you don't run Team Fusion version.

That's it, you should now see your chosen dash pic in the cockpit of your plane.

I've always loved photography and art/graphics work, it's the only thing that I ever do where hours turn in to minutes and it seems like there really aren't enough hours in a day. I've always kept my modding/films Youtube channel separate from my photographic art channel but I though why not put a video playlist together and tie everything together -- "Both sides of the coin" - my mods, films and photoart. . In sharp contrast to the biting sharp and somewhat sombre game graphics my art includes many works in my favourite neo-impressionist style. smile

One of my landscape works: "Plain and Simple" of Richmond Park close to where I live.

and something a bit more abstract :): "Floppy bikes and empty benches"

Sobering thought, I can't believe that I've been a member of SimHQ for more that 16 years, where did all that time go?!. smile

Kind regard to all

Aces

I enjoy this sim immensely..Just flying around for the joy of flight..I bought it when it first came out and it ended up in the dust bin with other sims/games I considered useless..But after reading about the TF patches I grabbed it for 10$ through Steam and it's a whole new girl..And Aces pits are the icing on the cake,,This and EAW have a permanent place on my computer..Guees like Aces i'm "still crazy after all these years"...

I was very disappointed when it came out after the very long wait. I remember being at the UK Flight Sim show when it was first announced and meeting and chatting with Oleg. At last! I thought a successor to Wings of Victory with modern graphics etc.. I'd hoped for a real dynamic offline campaign too with the same immersion as WoV but sadly that never was to be as 1C never include one and that's why I never really get truly immersed in CLoD or BoS for very long at a time but Team Fusion have turned things around no end and it's now a fine "tactical" flight simulation of BoB.

Cheers

It still has it's issues.
AI are abysmal and viewing distant targets is still porked, there are some issue with the way it deals with LODs.
Comms with the ground is all over the place and IMO there is still a lot to do. Hopefully with TF now having access to the source we might get some meaningful fixes for long established shortfalls in the current version.

For me I take it as "it is what it is" and put up with it. The graphics are pretty good and there are times when ATAG is enjoyable, that is when Hawkinge isn't being camped.

On the back of you bringing up Desastersoft, I have reinstalled Dundas vs Wick.
The game engine has it's faults and the Desastersoft missions aren't built with that in mind.
However it is a good enough experience that I find it enjoyable. Even if the game frustrates me.
For example flying the JG2 campaign, mission 2 or 3 escorting Stuka's, object is to get 2 kills and lose no more than 2 Stuka's.
I take a little longer than I should fighting Hurricanes and then head back. Of course by then all the Stukas stack it trying to land and the mission is recorded as failed.

I just shrug and think "it is what it is" or as Sokol is fond of saying "it's CloD"

But I do look forward to the day when the Sim works as it was supposed to.

View distance is fixable, with Nvidia at least.

No it isn't. I'm not just talking about spotting but also the LOD issue where you see a distant target, then zoom in and it disappears. Zoom out and you can see it again. It's these issues that need to be addressed.
