Can someone advise me how many Bodnar cards can be plugged into CLoD or BOS before befuddling Windows 10 and/or the flight sim software?

I am looking to run a joystick, throttle, TIR and at least two Bodnar cards. Is this realistic?

Thanks for your suggestions and experience.

Cheers,

Flying Colander

This thread suggestions 9 "joystick" plug-ins. Can anyone else confirm this set up?

I ran a set of pedals, TM Wart hog and throttle, 2 x Saitek Quadrant and 1 x Saitek trim and 1 Bodnar board with CloD with no issue.

You can use more that one L.Bodnar card (plus stick and etc), but when buy then ask for different VID/PID ID in each card.

BoS already has tendency in Wind 10 to mess joystick ID, two Bu0836 cards with same VID/PID is not good idea.

As far as I'm aware, TrackIR does not enumerate as a joystick, so the setup you're suggesting consists of only four joystick devices.

I don't have any external USB hubs, so I can't do a practical test either.

This post suggests that even the simplest joystick interfacing method(predating DirectInput/DirectX) supports 16 devices.

Note that there may still be an application-specific limit, meaning the flight sim may not support as many joysticks as is theoretically possible.

This post says 8 is the maximum for CLoD.

Thanks for the rapid responses, gentlemen.

I hadn't thought of the VID/PID conflicts, Sokol. I'll have to look into that. Maybe Leo has a firmware flash for changing IDs?

Pfeil, I'll look into PPJoy as well if I run into problems as I set up.

Mostly I like tinkering with the mechanics of button boxes and the like. Not very found of the software, de-bugging side of this flight sim gig.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers,

Looks they prevent this issue - from their Q&A:

Quote:
Q. Can I plug in more than one of the same controller on my PC or MAC?
A. Yes. Every controller has a unique serial number which means our devices will work alongside each other with no issues. We once tried 12 without issues but we're certain more could be connected; we just ran out of ports!

I'm now curious why you're asking about the limit on how many can be plugged in. What's the project?

At the moment I am running 2X BBi32 and 1X BU0836x for a total of 96 buttons and the possibility of 8(I think, I am running 4) analogue inputs... when I spoke to the very helpful people at leo bodnar I think they mentioned 3 max bbi32 on windows 10... but if you just email them they are very good

other input are Saitek x55 and TrackIR

cheers

Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.

The only thing more accurate than incoming fire, is incoming friendly fire

Ice,

I inherited a bunch of Bodnar boards. My goal is to completely get rid of the keyboard while flying. BoS has so many buttons to map, howwever, especially if you start including those for bombing, one gets a bit squirrelly contemplating such a project. Looks like I have a lot of on-line advisers to steer me clear of folly. Thanks fellows.

Cheers,

Flying Colander

E.g Is not need buttons exclusive for 3 different radiator types + cowls flaps, all this can be combined in 2 buttons. Etc.

Does anyone know if the cards are linux compatible (CentOS 6 or redHat).

The cards themselves don't use a custom driver, they enumerate as a joystick device according to the HID spec.

I would assume(emphasis on assume) any linux distro that has HID compliant drivers will be able to recognize the device.

One thing to note is that the configuration tools for rotary encoders/renaming/calibration are Windows only(no idea about Wine compatibility).

Beagle,

Pfeil is correct. I use an Ubuntu box for my everyday computing. Using a program called jstest-gtk -- basically a joystick tester -- my Bodnar board showed up and I could run it through its paces.

Haven't been able to run IL-2 under WINE however.

I have 3 leonardos (with joystick libraries), a G13, and a Logitech Extreme 3D pro. Thankfully mapping conflicts aren't an issue in CLOD as one can manually configure bindings in the config file. Not being able to have more than one controller in older games was a huge bummer. Now it's pretty sweet.
