Wow, I guess hell froze over after all! Never thought that would ever come out digitally again.
For those that don't know, SWAT is more Rainbow Six THAN Rainbow Six.
Graphically it's still good enough.

Nope, still work via IP... I've had the box for years and still played every few months, multiplayer... just nice to have the digital install now.

I still have the discs somewhere.

SWAT 4 devs went on to make Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite...and then shut down. No idea what the majority of that team is doing now, but I got the impression from the Bioshock commentary that they weren't looking to do a SWAT game again themselves, so it would be someone else by necessity.

That means SWAT 5 could be to SWAT 4 like R6 Vegas was to Raven Shield. So I'm not holding my breath.

Direct IP connect is just fine with me.

My cynical mind sees that as as the best case scenario. At least we got 3 and 4 on GOG now though.

As far as Rainbow goes, I'd even gladly accept a new Lockdown/Critical Hour game. Minus the bugs of course.

Strangely enough, I got Lockdown as part of a Steam Tom Clancy bundle years ago but never played it because of the negative reviews and lackluster demo, which I played at release.

Long after I'd played Vegas 1 and 2 through, and after reinstalling Raven Shield for another run through, I finally decided WTF and installed Lockdown.

It's firmly in the middle between those games. Leaves a lot to be desired, but the classic RvS gameplay is still partly there. R6V introduced the cover thing and all that other stuff that made it RINO in my book--Rainbow In Name Only. I enjoyed it for what it was, but never felt it a true R6 game.

I think Lockdown certainly felt more like R6. Call it the most flawed of all 4 "classic" games, but it was still a classic game at the core.

It wasn't a bad game, but the transaction things were odd. And the spawn points in MP. Huge map but that spawn points would be so close that most of an excellent map went unused. Lots of network issues when it came out, but eventually most got fixed. The classes were fun though, engineers could open up different avenues to get around the map. They made you earn money and buy your grenades, smoke, armor etc for extravagant amounts. The joke was saving up a week to buy a balaclava. The campaign was fun though.
Critical Hour came out a year or so later, console only. It was the same thing, but more MP oriented with more maps. It featured campaign missions/co-op missions from previous games.

With the Rainbow Six-type games it's all about the coop MP for me now. Playing them in single player is rather bland for me.

The Splinter Cell series is a completely different animal of course since those are stealth games and usually have a good story behind them.

The new R6 completely abandoned campaigns or even SP missions, it's just the same thing with either all humans or bots vs humans.

While it's decent, it was also hardly ambitious. Aim for the ground and it's hard to miss.

It might be worth noting that SWAT 3 is advertised on GOG as working only on Win 7.1 or earlier. As for SWAT 4, I am on the fence about this trip down memory lane; can anyone report on how it works/looks in Win and 10? Thanks!

I asked on the gog forums for Swat4 recently and it looks like they were listening. Bought it last night.
