I know that there is a desire to keep the screenshot thread pure. So, since electrons are cheap let's open up another thread dedicated to WOFF art. Don't know if there is enough interest to keep it going, but what the hey.
In the spirit of inclusion, feel free to post anything you want here that has been altered from the original screen, (Sweet FX, mods, photo editing).
This is about self expression, so have at it. Get out your fingerpaints, macaroni art, and glitter and have a ball!
I going to post some shots that I have taken, that "move" me at least, when I get home later this evening.
I think this thread may become well posted going forward. I have seen some "WOFF art" shots over the years by many forum members, that have just been beautiful.
you should send some of these to Aris who made a really nice art mod for the still screens on startup.....replacing the revolver, gas mask, helmet.....I'd love to see some these cycle around every day

First tried to create and oil painting effect on canvas, "Buzzing the General's Daughter". Hey, he brought her to see the airfield, I was just making her feel welcome!

I was thinking the same thing when I loaded that mod up; Should get some player screen shots in there.

Those are great Fullofit, especially the last one.

Thanks BB, I was trying a different technique with that last one to try and keep as much detail as possible, as it tends to disappear when applying these filters.

Here are three more. The first I tried something called Softglow, it looks ok. The last two I just applied the Canvas filter and I think that might be my favorite filter.

Does clicking a mouse several times qualify me as an Artist? In my eyes absolutely not, but as for me, this is my sick attempt to express what my eye sees and loves but just cannot coordinate my mind and hands to produce on canvas with oil paints. This is my poor rendering of an impressionist artists paintings. Maybe some will enjoy them as I do, but if you don't, my apologies in advance, move along, this is not the droid you are looking for.
Here come the SPADS, all dressed in ... what colour rhymes with SPADS? [img]
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Nice Fullofit! What color, (sorry colour) rhymes with SPADS? Don't know.
SteveW, I'm pretty sure it's not white.

Finally got around to checking out this thread. Some great pics here! A while back (WOFF2) I thought that it would be fun to create some "art" featuring these beautiful machines, courtesy of WOFF's wonderful graphics. One of my favorites was this early Albatros, doctored a bit with Gimp...
Great stuff guys, this is a fun thread. Like that solo 'Einie' by cptroyce, man it's a big sky with these little planes! And going home alone. These pilots were truly on their own. Wow! SW

And that looks like a photo.
How did you get up there to take it?
you know, these are good enough to printout and frame em for the wall
I am loving the creativity of these shots. It's amazing how a little lightening or darkening, a bit of Oilify, or a smear of texture, make these look like hand drawn works.
Have to sort of finesse it in, like flying that brick. LOL
They were all flying Spads, Just like my Dad’s every one painted up, in paisleys and plaids
He did it for luck, for he was flying a truck, with wings and a prop, but designed to just drop.
They could take a good punch, but that’s just a hunch They better he said, or else he’d be dead
And once more they come in I can see that old grin
The man in the Spad, For good or for bad.
Nice, nice shots all.
Blackard, that explains everything. Who said WOFF poetry can't be art?

Continuing with the colour theme. Here are all the colours of the rainbow:

Fullofit, love the second shot with the two planes going vertical. That's great!. And thanks for the compliments on mine everyone, it's so much fun to work these photos. WOFFUE is such a fantastic world to enter, makes my creativity pretty easy. Lots of guys on the forum talk about 'plus and minus this and that' between WOFF and RoF. RL for me doesn't give me much time so I'm completely in and sold on WOFF. Keep these great shots coming fellas. SW

Fullofit, love that 'tragic' ending for the Albatross.
SteveW, yet another victim:
Very nice shot with that spotlight, Steve. Has anyone else noticed that these spotlights occur only on the Entente side. Have yet to encounter them on the German side.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Couldn't decide which angle looked better. So, in both go.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
That was easy, thanks Sandbagger. Although that's my image, I love Nieuports, and I fly French quite a bit, you always end up in SPADs. A hard aircraft for me to love.
Fullofit, I like both images, although the lower one is more dynamic with the planes foxing each other diagonally. Even though the silhouette of the Albatross is nice in the upper. Another Alb bites the dust, huh?
I fly German least so I can't say too much about spotlights. This one was pretty striking. SW

Deacon, I sometimes have the urge to redo the shot because I feel the effect is too subtle. Maybe need to start adding the original images to compare the differences.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Well, the original of the last one is in the Screenshots thread.
For the most part I like the effect at larger sizes. It looks like a full sized painting. Shrunk down to 1650, it loses a lot of the detail.
Some of the more pronounced shots here look more like, say 8x10 sized paintings where the oils look a little less sharp. I tend to prefer the larger sizes since I have always been reminded of the big oils of artists like Stokes when looking at WOFF shots.
Something like this shot where the lines are still pretty sharp.
The portrait shots of course show more of the texture.
I just have to accept that in the default viewing size on the webpage, the effect is diminished. I'd love to be able to post a 2k shot, but understand the size limitations.
Fullofit, don't add the original images, this is the pleasure of the WOFF Art Thread. The pictures on this thread should stand on their own, whatever differences, they take on their own life. IMHO SW

Deacon, you mean something like this?
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Well, actually your shot above (love the paint job BTW) reminds me more of a large oil where the details are very sharp.
The lower one is very cool and the trees and the clouds particularly look hand painted. I think the aircraft look just a hair softer which gives (me) the impression of a courser brush or a smaller canvas.
On the web page though, the lower shot really highlights the paintedness of the picture, where the upper looks more like the direct screenshot.
All subjective of course. Both shots look cool and I could absolutely see someone thinking they were paintings.
For my own part, the shots that I really think come out looking cool in 2k, lose much of the effect as I resize them...even if I resize them first.
Another great artist is our own Roen. I think he really captures the surreal quality of a good aviation painting. That almost too sharp to be real quality.
I'm hoping that he doesn't mind me posting one of his images here:
Ah, no worries from me, I'm just enjoying what's being displayed. I've submitted in the 'regular' WOFFUE image thread, but I've been a photographer for years, and although I like 'straight' photos, I'm always fiddling. So this is fun. Keep 'em coming guys. That 'too sharp to be real' quality is interesting. I have the whole set of books illustrated by Rikyu Watanabe, WWII. They are captivating. I've probably seen more of that look for WWII rather than WWI. SW
Nice, cptroyce! Very cool. Sun just coming up, intercepted a flight of Gothas heading home. Murderous buggers! but should be big enough to hit! even for me.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Yeah, almost too close. I always press the pause button when one thing flies close to another thing. Usually good shots come out of it.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Fullofit, well, not yet! There's always the talk about immersion on the forum, but I can't help hitting pause and enjoying the sights. Really a dream come true. SW
I was feeling pretty confident so I thought I'd have a go at a second one. But he wasn't too happy to see me coming. I don't like the welcome I received.

I fly recreationally, so I don't mind the pause button either. Otherwise you'd see cockpit views only. Did you meet those Gothas in a campaign, or did you set up a QC mission? Nice soft glow effect BTW.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
QC. Since the time that the Gothas were introduced into WOFF I hadn't checked them out. Wanted to see them and have a go at an interception. Ugly critters aren't they? In a beautiful WWI kind of way. SW

Fullofit, what's your secret on your artsy screenshots? When I try and post mine the new forum format tells me they are too big, but your's are so small in comparison. Which app are you using to add your effects?

Banjoman;
Try loading your image into a graphics program to reduce your resolutio. I used a free program called Lview. Dont know if it is still available. PM me if you dont find something. I had hoped that the forum would auto reduce images instead of us having to do it manually.

Banjoman, I use Gimp to edit the images. I also reduce the image size in this program and when saving you also have the control over compression. Otherwise, if it's straight conversion from .BMP to .JPG I just right click the file and select "edit". This takes me to the Paint program that comes with Win 10. There, I simply select "save as JPG picture" and it's done. If I have a few of those to convert I just select all of them and right click on "edit". Windows will open all of them and then you can "save as" each one. Saves on a few clicks. Typically I don't post larger than 1800 pixels wide, since the forum reduces it and you lose some of the detail. Also the Attachment Manager doesn't allow images larger than 1 MB. At 1800 pixels that's more than plenty.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Fullofit, could you give us the blow by blow of how you are uploading these shots. The thread you spoke of still seems toyeild pretty small pics compared to yours.
Use full editor and click on Attachment Manager. Add the image (no larger than 1 MB) and click on Done. Add any text and post to the forum. No image will appear once you post, only the small attachment thumbnail. Now, right click with your mouse on that thumbnail and select "Copy Link".
Now edit your post and use "Insert Image Link" button on the menu like we used to do before. A window will show up with the "http" address. Delete that partial address and right click with your mouse in that window and select "paste". This will paste the link to your image which you copied earlier. Now the code with your image link should appear in your text. Once you click ok and re-post, the large image should be there. Let me know if something is unclear. Good Luck!

Yes that works fine but isn't that less than an ideal approach to posting images? Don't you think the forum could do much better?
