After a long absence brought on by a computer crash and life in general (packing 2 kids away to college) I'm finally back in the skies over Flanders Fields. After upgrading to WOFF UE it was time for my 1st campaign mission in 6 months. Signed up with RFC 60 in July '17 flying N-23's out of Filescamp near Arras.
1st mission. A break-in flight of 6 led by Lt George L. Lloyd to patrol the front lines. Weather was Terrible. Pouring down rain. Awful visibility. We take off and climb to 12+ ft and head to the lines. Wouldn't you know it, as soon as we arrive at the lines, my engine blows, splattering the windscreen with oil. I cut the power and proceed to glide back to towards the home field. Unbelievably I make it. Lining up to land, with hangers in sight, I'm gliding in when she's stalls and rolls on me. Splat into the mud. 200 Yds shy of the field. DOA.
Welcome back to Flanders Fields.
