Great reports, gentlemen! Jenks, I like your combat form, looks quite authentical... Some reports of me, from last week, was busy... Paul McCudden, missions 7 and 8. May 19, bombing of enemy frontlines again. Flight of 2 BE2c´s escorted by Will and me. Escorted our busses, they did their attack, w/o doing serious damage, unfortunately. After delivering them back to Baizieux I led Will for some flying around behind enemy lines, looking for the #%&*$#. Found 2 Eindekkers and had a scrap with them. Was able to damage one seriously, lost sight of him. Spotted Will shooting at an E/A, finally bringing him down. Both claimed one E/A downed, and confirmed the other. Both rejected. But all home safe. The other mission was an airfield attack, on May 22nd, takeoff at 04:20, target was the famous aerodrome of Bertincourt, home of the even more famous Jasta 1... Tasked unit is B-flight, Will and me, A-flight stays on the ground, maybe it is to early for them, hehe. Infact the sun is just raising, scattered clouds, planned my routeing NE to Bellevue and further NE, to bypass Bertincourt in the North, prior Pronville a turn towards the Mossy Face, and have a surprising attack coming from the East, out of the sun. Unfortunately, the sun was obscured by clouds at our arrival, so that part of the plan did not worked. But, anyhow, our timing was good. We were glad to catch two Eindekkers just taking off. They were completely surprised by our presence. And soon afterwards both E/A were burning wrecks! We did one pass on the aerodrome afterwards spending the rest of our ammo. Heared the sound of whistling bullets, then, pokpokpok- I was hit! Hit by ground fire... Any wounds, engine damage, leaking fuel? No, no hurt, no smell of fuel and the engine sounds like it should, puh! Turned to the west, tried to regroup with my wingman. Unfortunately during the mess I lost sight with him... I hung around in the vicinity, tried to get a tally on Barker. Did he got it? Found no wreckage in the vicinity, so I did not loose hope... Turned home to Baizieux, no Barker there either. Reported to the CO, who just received a call from Bellevue, Barker was there, safe! He received hits during the attack aswell, he suspected engine damage and did a precautionary landing on the nearest friendly field! Well done! This time our claims were approved.

I clearly take way too much time preparing these. My final report for past week. Awarded my first medal and officially an Ace. The lads and I are celebrating, who's with us!?
In a large-ish engagement our 3 flight of bristols took on 5-ish Eiii's, downing 3 of them. Two were credited to myself, 1 to Barker, while Capt. Harrison my winger, downed our first Aviatik, sending him smoking earthward in a slow eerie death roll.

[size:11pt]Felt foolish this go out; As I set myself in the sights of an Aviatik's gunner who dutifully filled my wing with lead. (77_Scout, was that your machine!?) I wish. It wasn't me as I have not seen a Bristol yet as I fly about in my old Aviatik. If I did run into a Bristol, I would warn him that the Aviatik doesn't really have a tail gunner, more of a nose gunner. Why that guy sits up front I will never know, but we do sometimes surprise the enemy (hello Jenks!) with an odd field of fire.

Mission 7: We had Company, this Time. Well, not really anything, that could have meant any Danger to our BE we were protecting, but we thought "Who cares? We are flying around alone all the Time, so it wouldn't be careless to leave our BE on it's own for a few Minutes to pursue these Aviatiks." We indeed downed them. We means my Wingman and them means he got credited for one - the 2nd wasn't accepted by those Fellows far from the Front behind their Desks. But anyway, the Mission was rated "Excellent" Player's Comment: As so often, I forgot to take some Pictures of the Action. Instead, here are some Flying-Around-Impressions:

My 4th mission in the Aviatik. May 31, 1916 Railyard bombing I got separated from my flight leader so continued alone. Decided to go in low as bombing from a few thousand feet up is very difficult. I did some damage, and also saw bombs dropping from above (Hello missing flight leader and Kette Eins!) I have finally contributed something to the war effort. Getting separated from my flight leader might have saved my life (he was shot down).

Rounding out my second mission of the week with an artillery spotting mission on June 3, 1916. A quiet mission with no enemy interference. My wingman had engine failure and had to land near the frontlines. Then I had engine failure approaching my airfield and had to dead-stick land in an adjacent field. I came this close to eating a fence on landing...
