Hi,

Some things we found when we were working on ODSAF and ISRAEL Theaters.

Most of these features can be seen more clearly when flying from the redside, this is how i used to test out what the campaign engine was really doing from both sides...

1: INDUSTRIAL TARGETS

Factories and powerplants supply all surrounding airfields with 50 percent of their needed FUEL.

If we start the tiger spirit campaign and look in the OOB we see a mig29A squadron based at onchon airbase with a resupply time of 12.00
At that time onchon will resupply itself with 50 percent of its fuel, the other needed 50 percent comes from its nearest powerplants and factories, thus destroying thses industrial targets will deny most of yhe fulcrums from taking off,

These guys are FULLY ARMED and sit on the TAXIWAY doing nothing{THEY ARE OUT OF FUEL}

I used to like slewinlg my lgbs over em while my wingies would decimate the runways.

2: Russian commandoes

The MI8 HIP will pick up and drop russkie special forces around certain areas of the map,these guys will make their way towards any valid blue target and attack it {Ever wonder what happened to your patriots??}

You can set up the same style attack using Chinooks or blackhawks and even CAPTURE industrial targets of interest from the blue side,You can also drop engineers.

3: ENGINEERS

On both sides these sobs will fix any installation around them that gets damaged INCLUDING BRIDGES...

The russkies will and do attack bridges in the f4af campaigns so as to halt an advance by the blue side.

The bigger the bridge then the longer it takes to fix,but what this means to us the player is that bridges can be blown away and then fixed when needed.

4: ECM

The EA6B\RAVEN actually do work.

When flying on the red side i noticed that sometimes the SA10 was not firing at its full range or for some reason not firing at all,at first i thought "BUG" and couldnt figure out what was wrong?

After dozens of reloads i came across a flight of prowlers, they were jamming the russkie sams...

Ive been modding and flying the X series for the last 8 yrs so i cant remember too much about f4af engine these days but i thought these findings might be handy to know.

Godspeed...

Hey... If ya want a change from space:D

Btw the gfx is just old but visibility is amazing. I can see fulcrums from 30nm using look closer and the missile splash is visible from like 100nm.. And slammers and adders like little bright dots. never realized how crisp things look back then..

Also started a 2005 campaign to test things out. had ofc forgotten what kind of stuff the north has except sporadic SA3s on map and just took off for some SEAD. "Beep" "beep" #%&*$# 2 10s... "Chirp" phhh several 6s.. Ofc my Jstar ain't up yet... Imma finish modding and have fun with this one ar15

Hi Ed,

Hey its nice to see some of you guys are still around...

Yeah its a great platform and still as solid as a rock.

@ stratos

Im pretty sure BMS would have most of these features and maybe a lot more.

On engineering units>repair , there was a undocumented switch to turn off auto repair so only engineering units would do repairs.
Way back I tested a modified campaign with a lot more engineering units and it seemed promising.

Sadly, I don't have info on the config line, unless i posted it way back, in 2005- 2008.
I don't have the reference doc's here handy, maybe i should not even mention it now.

Ed

Yeah the engineers were a great addition to the playing field.

Its great the way they can be transported in chinooks and then made to take over and repair any installation...

The little buggers can make a big diff to the winning or losing of the campaign.
In Iron Fortress ive destroyed bridges many times to halt the advance of the reds, its always funny to see red engineers heading to those bridges and fixing em up.

Thus they can make a campaign way harder if not severely dealt with.
MAVS do a nice job on em...WOOT duck
