My mother died last night, at the age of 96, peacefully in her sleep at Farnborough Hospital. As my brother noted, she had dealt with the indignities of old age with the same grim determination which which she had dealt with the war. She is now free and at rest and gone to join my father and her other loved ones who went before her.
