As most of you already know. There are times in WOFF and WOFF UE that just make you go WOW! I had two in one day. Sorry for no screenies but that just takes away the immersion for me so do not think about them that often.

Immersion 1. Flying escort in a Tripe to bomb an airfield we tangled with a few Albs that were after the bombers. Hearing my machine get hit I notice there are two bullet holes in my main struts! That was a new one for me. Splintered up too. Lucky the fight was over because this child was real squeamish about any kind of maneuvers! Made it home safe.

Immersion 2. Balloon attack on the next mission. I made my pass and my wingman made his. Looking over my tail I saw him catch an Archie burst pulling up after destroying the balloon. Circling to form up he made his way to my position. I saw that his plane was rocking somewhat and now could see why. His lower port wing was confetti. All the way home, in real time, I could not help but look back time and time again to make sure he was there. I could almost imagine a real pilots feelings of being in that position, nursing home a wounded machine hoping it would hold together. We made it home and he made a shaky but good landing.

Thank you OBD!

Two great moments there MFair thanks for posting those. I remember playing "Elite" many years ago on Commodore 64 and getting many moments that made you think there was a lot happening that you had no control over, and it added to the immersion. I think we have that feeling in WOFF - that there is a world out there and stuff happens around you sometimes you may only see something once and never again so much can go on.

In WOFF that is so true Pol. Never a dull moment and always something new to stimulate you

Heck, the feeling of a squad-mate doing exactly what you were doing; seeing it all go down, and then watching and hoping the guy made it back ok, wondering if at any moment you were going to see him roll over and go down.

Just your writing about it dropped me into that.

This may sound corny, but I actually experienced a sort of feeling of loss, and then rage with my first experience. It was after a good bunch of missions with a young wingman. He was being chased and peppered by an enemy craft while I raced to his aid. Watched him come apart before I could get there, then tore into the Alb, shredding him all the way down even after he was burning.

It was my first loss of an airman. That is what gave me the idea to go all black with my plane and turn him into a vengeful flyer.

A game that can do that?!

Well, I was the guy on the other side. As we were lifting off, I aimed my machine at our balloon in the distance, this being the marker for our first waypoint. I remember just last night drinking schnapps with the boys who are now right there on observation duty. I looked down to give my grease pump a turn and when I looked back up at the balloon, a black plume of smoke was coming out of it, with 2 specks dancing around it. Then suddenly and violently the balloon erupted into a huge ball of flame. The faces of the 2 observers flashed in front of my eyes. The blood started to boil. Not my balloon! Not at my aerodrome! Not on my watch! I gave chase with my wingman in tow. I was urging my plane to go faster, promising it the good stuff when we return. We finally caught up with them just over the lines. My first burst took out the gunner of the trailing plane. He was defenseless, just like our balloon with nowhere to hide. He caught fire after the second burst. His companion was next. With one long burst into the engine, all four wings came off and he plummeted to his death. We turned back to complete our mission knowing well we'll need to make new friends with the balloon section. We also knew very well the enemy will need to make some new friends as well.

The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain,
From out of my arse take the camshaft,
And assemble the engine again."
