This should be amusing My daughter has been obsessed with the 2005 WoW movie since she was about 7. 14 years old now and we still watch it at least once a year and she still loves it and has wanted a Tripod to go with her anime/Manga collection for quite a while. So i finally found this kit... ...and decided we would do a Dad and Daughter Christmas build. Damn i get some stupid ideas sometimes. I haven't touched a kit for at least 20 years, expect heaps of glued fingers and over spray everywhere. Hoping we end up with something at least 10 % this good. LOL! The model stands 18" on spindly little legs and has all of those delicate little people grabbers poked out of its snout..good times i'm sure. Ok, so the plan is pull all of the pieces off and clean up the obvious mould marks and do a prefit of the legs and head to make sure it will stand up and fits neatly, get the angles all right etc. Work out if it will need some weights in the feet or down low in the legs somehow so it it isn't top heavy. Prime, silver coat then a wash to give a decent looking weathering. Try not to get any paint or glue on that top head piece which is one chunk of clear plastic that needs a lot masking as only the lower section remains clear, the purple in the pic. Need to work out what to paint the inside of that with so it remains fairly clear but has a purple hue. Main aim..keep it fun for my daughter without trying to be a perfectionist. I would love to do the leds but i don't want it to turn into a chore for her and possibly become a tedious task, if this one goes well and she enjoys it then we may do another one using our combined experience ...or possibly just make the top of the head removable so we can fit some leds at a later date. Hoping to start it on Christmas day, we will at least start with some pics of the kit and what it looks like in the flesh. Need to do some quick research on paints, especially weathering/washes. Stay tuned and watch a Father/Daughter build turn to disaster over the Christmas break!

Ooh this looks good! I hope you both have fun.
For the purple have a look at the Alclad II range (if you're airbrushing). I'm sure there's a hot metal purple or something like.

That looks so cool!
On the LED's, it may be a case where you ask her if she wants them in, and then either pick where she can help if it's a PITA, or just be the Dad and do the work for her.
I'll hazard to say it won't matter if it looks like crap when you get done or not - it'll wind up being a treasured item regardless.

I'm going to hit up a hobbie/model shop this weekend and have a poke around. I'll see if this build piques her interest before i invest in an airbrush kit That looks so cool!

Ok so we got her started Christmas man, phew! The bits and our little kit, not nearly enough colours but we did some mixing when needed so far and it looks like we will be sweet. That bloody glue, i got the one with the needle extension so it would be finer to use, the needle fell out as soon as we opened it, We had to glue it in to the tube First part we had to put together, the centre body/leg support, needed slotting as the slots were in the wrong places. So she learnt to slot. She has never been fond around knives so why not let her have a nice super sharp one I forgot how long modelling can take as we spent a while getting parts out, trial fitting, trimming, glueing and then priming. She wanted to move on with some painting so i gave her the base to paint. Not much to show for about two hours work, she got a decent road colour mixed and then mucked around making some different browns and dampening our green down a bit mixing it with some rust weathering. I primed up a couple of main parts of the body and we were done for the arvo. I think the base will come along pretty good once we tidy it all up and add the white lettering. Need to work out a colour for the sidewalk and then go over all the debris with a couple of different shades of browns and greys. The kits pretty solid so far, everything fits nice and snug, should be a cool build. The rust weathering i got may be a bit much for the actual Tripod, need to make a trip and grab another weather colour closer to the silver we are going to it in. Quick edit- She got a bit grungier with the base. Can't believe i didn't get white paint for the rest of the words.

Well, I'd say either do nothing at all with them (just paint them), or put a bit of card stock cut to fit the area and then paint that.
I hope you're having as much fun putting it together as it looks...and it looks great!

We are still undecided lol, she think it looks sort of alieny with the holes and i want to plug 'em. Legs ended up being slightly painful, after painting and letting them dry today i found out when we were glueing that the top covers didn't fit true. Look at this mess. The pic does show our silver compared to the original silver, the top ball coupling of the leg is normal and the rest of the leg is our mix. Trimmed down the two posts a smidge and then went for a refit Still didn't fit. It ended up being the two spars inside the cover that were hitting the leg brace so trimmed those and problem solved. Mongrel of a mess that we need to clean up tomorrow, luckily we are going for a non clean look and hopefully that may fit in with the weathering we still have to do. We went for a quick fit to see how she all looks so far, all of the body is painted now, just needs a few parts trimmed up and some touch up before the weathering. It's looks really cool so far despite my ham fistedness. The silver comes out a lot brighter in these pics than what it actually is. More than likely having a break on it tomorrow. Some @sshole stole the number plates off my car while it was parked in my front yard last night so i have to go and get another set of plates before i can take the kids down the coast to our planned Movie World visit. Seems odd as they were taken off cleanly so whoever did it had a purpose, who kicks around with a philips head screwdriver stealing plates unless they are going to use them? Weird. Reported it to the cops so i don't end up with a flood of speeding tickets or something worse. Oh yes, and here is my daughter in her natural habitat on Minecraft or Skull Girls.. 'wasting noobs' as she likes to say

One thing that awes me about all y'all model makers is the patience displayed.
That sucker would be long glued together in my hands...and looking pretty crappy.

That sucker would be long glued together in my hands...and looking pretty crappy. Yep, same here. I learned long ago I do not have the patience to build models. Wheels.

That sucker would be long glued together in my hands...and looking pretty crappy. You do have patience to build models. Didn't you just construct a scale bebe?
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
