Way over in Perth, Western Aus...
So I decided to get the DCS L-39 with the Christmas sale...
Thought I better give the training missions a go...

So I fired up the Ramp start, taxiing, takeoff tutorial, and this guy started yelling at me in Russian... but there was text translations to read, the Russian instruction added to the atmosphere (and I don't turn on English cockpit translation too) but sometimes I wish the training text stayed longer because I didn't read it in time - anyone know a way to bring up the last hint text?

All the switch pressing and ADF tuning was a bit overwhelming thinking how the heck will I remember all this...

Finally got it started and taxiing...

So taxiing was the next challenge - trying to get used to that depressing the rudder pedal then braking...

The cockpit looked quite simple and straight forward until I started zooming in on all the little switches...

Taking off (and managed to work out how to pull the gear and flaps up...)

Doing some laps of the airbase and local area:

So now I decided to be braver and try some aerobatics...

And annoy the locals...

Then I decided to RTB and give a visual approach landing a go...

Deploying the speed brakes:

Losing some altitude and getting to the right position...

Turning on final and dropping the gear:

I quickly consulted Chuck's guide for approach and landing speeds... [Thanks Chuck thumbsup]

Over the threshold:

And touching down.... I can't believe I landed this thing!

Taxiing off the runway:

Past some Hinds... (loved that game back in the 90s)

Then noticed this beast:

And couldn't resist parking up next to and under the wing of it to shut down...

So in the end quite a nice and fun and nimble little aircraft to fly, although I don't know how I'll remember all those startup switches... and all those nav instruments - how to use them... looking fwd to the rest of the tutorials... and employing some weapons...
