Once you have the file downloaded simply unzip it, open the folder, and run the auto-installer and it should place the mod directly into your JSGME "MODS" folder. From there you can activate it via your JSGME control panel, however be sure to deactivate any other mods that are currently modifying the global layer files, such as my Farnborough mod. You will need to fly during the spring or summer of either 1915 or 1916 in order to see "Old Mossy Face" in the sim landscape as this is the beta version and is only meant for testing purposes at this point. Once I know this runs well for you folks under different flying conditions I will finish up the version for No Man's Land and build the tiles for the fall and winter months.
When you have the mod up and running you should see something like this when flying over the area just east of the Bertincourt aerodrome:
Give it a go Gents and let me know how it works for you, in particular with a lot of action over or near the woods.
Thanks!
Lou

Robert, after taking on Farnborough this one is a piece of cake - relatively speaking.

I'm afraid the FPS hit of so many individual "facility" trees will be quite bad. Even if they look as simple as the autogen ones the game engine has to do much more work for facility objects than for autogenerated ones.

I agree Ankor. I went through that problem working on Roucourt but that was pre WOFF UE. Maybe things are much better now. It's worth the try.

Lou, I've personally been bigger on history than eye candy, so I'll be delighted if there is anything recognizable as a wood down there. Thank you for this!!!

My pleasure Raine, I'm a big fan of the history side of it all as well. Since Havrincourt Wood was one of the most recognizable features from the air in southern Flanders, and as such has been mentioned in many writings of the day, it really needs to be in the WOFF landscape. By the way, have you flown from Farnborough yet?
AnKor and Robert, I am only putting in a random sprinkling of trees in the facilities, actually less than the number you find in most of the aerodrome facilities. In my opinion there only needs to be enough trees to give the place a bit of depth at ground level and low altitude. I am also fitting the woods into the surrounding landscape so that it blends properly with the smaller roads and fields and such.
Mr. Dirt, nice to know I can still amaze.
Thanks folks.

I imagine it will, and from the looks of it in WOFF, beginning in 1917 and onward, "Old Mossy Face" will be nothing more than a churned-up outline with a few war-torn trunks. This would mean that apart from the eleven textures there will be very little that has to load. Also, from my experience, the textures don't seem to have any impact on performance or FPS so we should be good to go. I have dropped in about 30 or so trees in each of the eleven tiles and again have not seen any hit to FPS or performance, even with an entire jasta flitting about the place.

Greetings All,
Hope each and every one of you had a wonderful Christmas, I know I did. Progress continues on my Havrincourt Wood project and I have it all fitted into the surrounding countryside now. Where there are roads in the landscape I have continued these on through the woods. I've also cleaned up the textures and have been scattering trees throughout and am now placing a few clumps of them here and there to see if they have any impact on FPS. So far so good. Here is a screenie showing how things are looking at this point: (right-click on image and open in new window to view it full size)
After I'm done adding in as many trees as I estimate it can handle and still run smoothly I will make the beta version available for testing. And if all goes well with that I'll make the winter textures and the version for NML and can release the full mod.
Later folks.

That looks really nice. The shrubbery looks good from the height. I cant detect the trees though probably because of the height.
Great mort Sir!

Now that wood would have been handy when Major Ward was mushroom hunting!

Raine, Robert, and all, I have just updated the first post in this thread and provided the download link for the BETA version of this mod. Any and all feedback will be much appreciated.
Cheers!
