The building was more important than the model.

My son and I made a Roman sword out of a yard stick, some dowels, wood putty, and some spray paint for a school project he had in Middle School. It came out pretty darned good, and we were both pleased with the craftsmanship, even though we whipped it out over the course of four or five hours over two days.

We were going through some of my son's stuff, getting rid of old crap, when he leaped across the room and snatched it out of my hand.

"Not this."
"I wasn't going to suggest we throw it away."
"This is our sword, the one we made. This stays."
"Okay, okay."

(Huge grin and a little misty-eyed)
