I saw that movie in the theater when in came out in 1962. I was a junior in high school.

If you like both Wayne and/or Fonda directed by Ford, then you need what is referred to as the Ford cavalry trilogy.

Fort Apache (Wayne and Fonda were in this one)
Rio Grande
She wore a Yellow Ribbon (the only one of the three in color)

As a bit of movie trivia, there was hit song titled "The Man who shot Liberty Valance" sung by very popular artist at the time---Gene Pitney. It made it to #4 in the Billboard ratings and stayed in the top ten for quite a while. It was written for the movie, but it was reported that John Ford hated it, so he managed to keep it out of the soundtrack.

Cheers

That was another classic from 1962. When I was even younger--say 7 to 10 years, my mom would drop me off at the local movie house at around noon while she went shopping. She'd give me 50 cents, which paid my 25 cent admission and left me 25 cents for a soda, popcorn, and a candy bar. I saw whatever was playing--whether it was a good action flick or western to some hokey romantic tear jerker.

This was long before the days of the Saturday morning matinees for kids, so the movie started around noon and by the time my mom came to get me, I had set through up to two showings. Of course back then, one also had short features and a cartoon. Sometimes I would almost have the theater to myself--especially if it was a crappy movie.

Cheers

John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, Strother Martin, and more. How could it be anything but good.

Great film and I think what I like most about it is the objective portrayal of the American, Free French, British and German sides during the D-Day landings.
