Hey all, more of an historical question than a sim one today. Do any of you know what the arrangement was for firing Lewis guns from aircraft? As far as I know, synchronised Vickers guns had a trigger on the control stick since they were sort of mated into the fuselage (please let me know if I'm wrong about that!), but I'm not sure about Lewis guns. For example, in the DH2, would one have had to reach forward to the trigger on the weapon? And on the Nieuport or Se5, would one have had to reach up above one's head to fire the overwing Lewis? And especially on the Se5, does that mean the Lewis and the Vickers had separate triggers, and it would therefore be more realistic to bind each of them to different buttons in the sim?

The overwing Lewis guns had a "Bowden" cable that connected the trigger to a control at the end of the cable. Initially I believe the cable ended in a plunger-type of control, but later it was usually connected to a trigger paddle on the control column.

The Vickers and Lewis in the SE5a had separate side-by-side trigger paddles, at least on the later types. Some of the earlier models still had a Vickers trigger on the column and a Bowden cable with a plunger control.
