As I indicated yesterday herewith an announcement of OBD plans for 2016/2017.
First off for those who are unaware we have been generously sponsored by Mark Fairchild for the development of our new product for 2017.
So what is the new product?
Well I am sure many have guessed we are using our WOFFUE engine/systems to develop a WW2 Combat Flight sim. Wings Over The Reich - or as we call it in-house WOTR.
This will follow the exact same lines as OFF/WOFF/WOFFUE in that it will be a phased release.
The intention is that it will eventually encompass the whole of WW2 and will be centered in Europe. From the Battle of France, Battle of Britain to the massive day and night raids over Germany and German held territories.
The intention is that players will be able to play either side in fighter or bomber squadrons and will have and will build on many of the SP features of WOFFUE. Aircraft models are all new high poly hi res textured aircraft with even more realistic DM than what is currently in WOFFUE
The world will be alive as will the theater change over time until very little of the main European cities is left.... again much like WOFFUE that has the frontlines moving and devastated tracts of land building up over time.
How long?
We have been burning our candles at both ends for the past year working on both WOTR and WOFFUE. We will continue to focus more on WOTR in 2017 but still will be releasing add-on packs for WOFFUE.
We anticipate a release hopefully of WOTR P1 in the last quarter 2017 - but we cannot promise a definite release date as usual.
As a spin off we hope then to revisit WOFFUE and incorporate the new features of WOTR as an expansion/upgrade to WOFFUE.
We are aiming high and dreaming big and as usual we will deliver as best a product as we can for both WOFFUE and WOTR. Future phases of WOTR and WOFFUE post 2017 are entirely dependent on support, sales and finance of course.
We will be updating the Web site in due course.

Wow! Straight poop right from the horse's mouth! Wait, that didn't sound right... Anyway, sounds like a great idea! You guys have obviously been hard at work and I'm sure the engine consideration has come up, Anything new with stuff like undercarriage modeling, engine component management, weapons systems, ground forces density, etc? Looking forward to the results! Rick Rawlings WWII challenges? I need to retire!

WW2 does have a bigger crowd and potentially more sales, but is not what I'd be interested to buy. It's too bad that WW1 is not a cash cow and you need to move on to other pastures.

Ambitious! I like it. The two people hoping for a 1920's racing sim must be devastated right now. It's also good to know that you won't abandon WW1 completely.

That is great news. I do wonder however, how you will be able to achieve your lofty goals using the same CFS3 engine. I had the impression you folks had pretty much pushed the engine to it's limitw in WOFF UE. Have you managed to augment or mod the engine in some way?

My God! I dream of flying OFFLINE iin a B-17 with box of 24 to 36 or 48 other B-17's fighting off "intelligent" AI on the way to strike a target in Germany. Not since B-17 the mighty eighth Have I dared to dream like this.
I might have to buy several copies of WOFFUE to support this venture.

I think that Roadmap makes perfect sense. It broadens OBDs potential sales into the much larger WWII genre which makes them more financially viable but with the Official Sponsor (the esteemed Mr. Fairchild) being a lover of WWI, we can have good reason to believe that WOFF UE will not be pressured to be abandoned in favor of the newer product.
WOFF UE is a very polished product that already contains countless hours of enjoyment. (Anyone here mastered all 78 aircraft yet or finished the war once yet from start to end with one country, let alone all of them?) Add-ons keep development going with additional planes, content and features while OBD gets to continue working on new technologies in the more profitable WWII genre, which can then later be ported back to WOFF UE. Short of a sudden, massive resurgence in WWI air combat sims, that is best Roadmap forward one could hope for.
Thanks to OBD for not giving up, to Mr. Fairchild for making this possible, to everyone who has and continues to donate to add extra wind in the sales (see what I did there?) and to all the modders who find creative new ways to expand our playing options and experiences. Best community ever and now with a brighter future than ever.

Outstanding Your devotion, passion and attention to detail - applied to a WW2 setting? Not to mention the breathtaking career mode I can say only one thing

WM I'm in.. pre-ordered WOTR any time you ODB want to start the list. I'm in for any and all WOFFUE expansions, updates OBD releases.
Sounds like a really focused plan.

Guys one thing I do want to add is remember we have written almost all the code in WOFFUE barring rendering so all the limitations you might think are there preventing a truly great WW2 sim.....are not.

WM If I've read correctly WM,does your statement basically say that there's nearly zero CFS3 code left in WOTR? If so that's brilliant, maybe a bit to soon but il ask anyway ....will CFS3 be required? Best of luck to you,Pol and the rest of the team in this project,I sent a donation yesterday..another will be made next payday.

A WW2 flight sim with the kind of immersive single player career mode as in WOFF is sorely missing from the market right now. Agreed! Please take my money ASAP!

OBD Software If I didn't already have an interest in the WWII ETO, the thought that the new features in WOTR could potentially be incorporated into WOFF UE would be more than enough to make me purchase WOTR anyway. Of course, there are no guarantees but to me these are very exciting possibilities. The potential WOFF UE benefits aside, I'm also excited to fly a Spitfire and P51 Mustang against the best that the Reich has to offer. 2017 isn't that far away. Hopefully we will get some news in the next few months. Matt, I'm very much looking forward to hearing your new score. I'm sure it will epic, as always.

In my head I keep seeing or being part of a huge box 36 to 48 B-24's or B-17's. waves of ME's and FW's
I really hope this is possible with realistic tactics and multi engine behaviors shutting down engines....dropping the bombs early to decrease weight....etc.....
I want to fly the whole darn mission from England and back. Big formation. Damaged friends.

Great to hear something so positive from you, Winder! I guess the engine is one of the very few to allow for a big number of aircraft in the skies? That should make it a good basis for a WW2 air combat sim. ...what do ya think i'm working on right now?
You gave us a perfect musical mood of the era of wood & canvas byplanes, Mat - I'm sure you will come up with a great score and mood for the late 30s and fourties! Couldn't think of anyone better for the job!

Well of course I'll buy it. I think an opportunity to fly a Lancaster bomber in a night attack over berlin is to be looked forward to with glee!...I'm hoping it will have more interesting content than the old Spit V 109 routine?

We will see, because it is become rather difficult now TeamFusion is going to be commercial and has now the source code from CLOD, thanks to 1C. BoX is going towards 64bit/DirectX11 and the much needed sp campaign mode, while DCS also seems to have its improvements.
The actual Woff'ers do not have to be convince about OBD's splendid workmanship, if having patience we all know this will be good, only I think this would be a hell of task to reach the players outside the Woff scene. Have to tell a little story about this. I bought WoFF a week ago, never even heard about it until a few weeks ago. Normally i am a MP pilot only, mostly doing dynamic campaigns with my squadron. Read about WoFF in the BoS Forums, there is a topic about this new project WotR, and people were talking about WoFF. Before that i thought i already own all "real" and to-date combat sims (1946, CloD, RoF, BoX, Falcon, DCS), so i was astonished to miss this one, until i heard it's SP only, which really doesn't interest me at all (at least i thought so). I read all about it regardless, and started watching some of the rare Youtube videos out there..started asking questions to people in the BoS forum who own it. Then there is the issue, that i only have Internet with blocked ports (University) for a couple of month, so not able to fly online for that time. I was thinking about keeping in shape in SP, but all those Sims i mentioned just weren't fun. So i started seriously thinking about WoFF...the high asking price still put me off. Not in the position currently to spend 100 bucks (including taxes) on a game i am going to shelve after 3 hours because i get bored - which was an expected outcome, looking at the other Sims. Well long story short - i took the risk and bought it at 25% off. Didn't look back since then. So far i am in my 17th mission into the dynamic campaign, and i love it. Never thought you can have that much fun in a single player flight sim. It's leaps and bounds ahead any other Sim in single player. I see myself keep on flying it now and then even when i got my proper Internet back. And i am definitely gonna invest in the WW2 project as well.. What i wanted to say with that small story - if this game can seduce me, and drag me over from the other (MP) side, it should be a no-brainer for every single-player focused simmer. Seriously, if i would only fly SP, this would be the only Sim i need.

OBD,
This is to me FANTASTIC news and WW2 sim build ontop of what you guys made for WOFF is something I was hoping you would pursuit at one point after making WW1 sim experience.
You have my full support. Spreading the word. Ohh the impatient waiting will be worth it I am sure. I do have some potentially bad news for you sir. I dont think we have internet or mail service to your location
