I've been collecting 1/144 scale WWII tank miniatures and model kits. However, upon receiving a M10 TD from Arrowhead Miniatures I noticed a problem. Either the M10 was way too big or all my Shermans by New Millenium were way to small. I also have a LST ship model by Revell that I haven't gotten around to building yet, I opened up the box and constructed one of the Shermans that comes with it and noticed it was about the same size as the M10 by Arrowhead.I trust Revell the most, so I'm assuming the New Millennium models are the ones that are incorrect.

However this leads me to a problem, Nearly my entire German armor collection is New millennium with the exception of a couple Dragon STUGIIIs kits I built and a couple Takara World Tank Museum Jagdpanzer IVs. The Takara collection is supposed to be spot on, so I compared the road wheels and tracks on their Jagdpanzer IV to my New Millennium Panzer IV, STUG IV and Sturmmpanzer 43, since all four of the vehicles are variants of the same chassis. The good news is despite being two different manufactures they were a perfect match. Though this could just mean that they are both off :-P

Well, now I'm a bit paranoid about the scale of my Panthers and Tigers. I looked online everywhere trying to find site with too scale profile pics of different tanks or at least photos and had very little luck. So I though I'd just post a couple comparison pics of some of my tanks and see what the SimHQ community's take would be. I also have a T34/76 I just got that I'm a little uncertain about scale wise.

Left to Right: M10 (Arrowhead Miniatures) M4 Sherman (revell) Tiger I (New Millennium) T34/76 (Arrowhead) Panther (New Millenium)

Apologies for my terrible phone camera resolution, but the important thing is the size comparisons. I'm ok with them being off by a millimeter or less, as it's to be expected from different manufactures. My main worry is the Tiger feels a bit too small to me, and the T34 seems possibly too big? I know there are a lot of history buffs on here that might be able to help me figure this out. Also anyone know of a website with scale drawings of tanks that can be compared to one another?

Interesting... Sorry I don't have anything constructive to add, but something does seem astray.

Good Luck finding the info. I googled a little but was no help at all.

My unscientific observations:

The M10 and the Sherman shared the same chassis so I assume they would have the same track size.

What really confuses me is the optical illusion of the T34. It looks huge in the top view but looks small in the front view.

Here are some 3D models I have made over the years. The Panther was made from a Tamiaya 1:32 kit, using standard drafting practices and 0.1 mm calipers. The rest are best guess, for an old game engine, and over 10 years old now.

Observations:
My Wolverine is small and much to squat.
Your M10 looks too big
Your Tiger looks too small

Yeah I feel like the Tiger is too small, but at the same time in this picture,
(thanks for the search link Mad Max) it looks like the T34 chassis is a wee bit longer than the Tigers. can't really the judge the turret though as the one in the picture is a T34/85 not a /76.

When compare the tracks and suspension on the Revell M4 and the Arrowhead M10 they are a perfect match size wise and location wise. No matter how hard a I try I cannot find comparison images of these two vehicles next to one another, all I find are pics of models and video game screenshots.

One idea I just had, couldn't I just take the dimensions from this website... Tank Encyclopedia and divide them by 144 and get a rough estimate?

Thanks for the help on this guys, it helps to get other mindsets into these things when you get stuck. For example I was fixated looking for M4 and M10 comparison pics and couldn't find any, didn't even cross my mind to try and find comparison pics of some of the other models. So Mad Max your T34 and Tiger comparison search helped a lot. Also thanks for the wireframe picture as well Aldo.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

That helps. Squadron/signal publications Armor #36, US Tank Destroyers in action has a side profile photograph of a M36 parked behind a M10. If you draw a vertical line at the back of the track, it is nearly a perfect intersection with the top corner, where the engine deck meets the sloped, rear plate. The only rear photo graph is slightly off from dead center, but the track width looks to be the same as the top of the engine deck. The only good frontal photograph is of a M18.
