I have my opinions on motorcycles. Some are based on aesthetics and some on performance. But if your were to look specifically at product quality (durability, after sale service, overall satisfaction), what pros and cons stand out when it comes to the Harley-Davidson line?
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

You won't see "Yamaha" or "Honda" tattoos. Sometimes it isn't about raw numbers and statistics. This isn't like the earlier days when those who rode had to know how to take care of things. All the motorcycles today are very reliable. Get what you want, but make sure you land your ass on plenty of seats first.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

My 2000 FXST has had minimum maintenance done to it - oil changes and filter, tires, brake pads, spark plugs. Lent it to a friend, a looong time HD rider, and he was surprised how much power it had especially after I told how much maintenance had been done to it. About 100,000km on it. Hardly ever go to the dealer. Was good when under warranty but was not that please with them the last couple of times I had to go to the dealership. The bike gets a .
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Too uncordinated/out of practice to really speak, but.... There are girls bikes and mens bikes....and the girls know the difference.

29 years riding, 7 bikes owned, maybe 60 types ridden, yeah I know a little about motorcycles...
I have only two complaints about Harley Davidson:
1. COMPLETELY overpriced.
2. Harley tariff in the 80's - they went crying to the Government "We can't compete with cheap overseas product, we need a tariff", and they GOT it, in the form of TWENTY NINE PERCENT on any imported bike over 700cc's (or maybe 750, can't remember now).
Then they proceeded to NOT innovate, instead they went on a MARKETING blitz, and somehow they pulled that off.
I realize I kind of went outside of Letterboy's question parameters here, but on this I couldn't resist. I just posted in another thread to him about "Made In USA" as a positive point for a possibly "inferior" product (cast iron thread).
But Harley played dirty, and I haven't forgotten it.

I have had English bikes, Japanese bikes and some rather odd bikes but my '48 Harley was the only real bike I had. In the 60's I road that '48 chopped and was a member of a biker gang and, of course, they all road Harley's. So you see this was way before it was cool to ride a Harley, we just knew what bike to ride.

High mileage HD rider here, a rarity in GB as they need to be cosseted against our weather most owners think. FXRT 60,000 miles in 2 years, just wore out. Then FLHTCU 120,000 miles in a little over 3 years. All this mileage run up mainly in the course of my business. Then (late 1990's) I don't thing there was a normally aspirated Harley in the UK. Mine was certainly highly modified with Mikuni carbs and Kuryakyn exhausts. On both of them I found the build quality poor, with frequent breakdowns due to vibration (e.g. regulator mounts disintegrating) stock brakes almost suicidal on the Ultra. Changed to braided hose and ERF pads. The chrome certainly couldn't stand regular use in our climate here in England. But for that sort of mileage riding in all weathers the comfort and weather protection of these bikes was invaluable. Whatever the faults, I loved riding them, even with so much daily use, every time I got on thing thing there was a sense of pleasure and excitement I hadn't experienced with other more sophisticated marcs. (Honda Pan European for example)
Threw the Ultra down the road and couldn't afford to replace it *sigh*.

Hey BD-123, is it possible that you got one of those Harley's when they were owned by AMF (bowling equipment company)? They say that this was not a highlight in the span of Harley's existence.

Doesn't matter what make, dealerships are expensive and only the old shovel/pan models were finicky.
