I am posing this question because I have seen insurance or "warranty" included with purchase price on some of the space ships. I have heard some folks say that, while buzzing around out in the persistent universe, should you lose your ship due to combat or just running into an asteroid or something like that, you lose your ride unless you have bought insurance for it. If not, you will have to shell out another bunch of money to buy another ship. Is this really the case?

I am currently flying in DCS world and most of the planes I am flying cost me 40-60 dollars. But I have wrecked, or lost each one of them in combat, more times than I can remember. However, I have not had to go back to the E-store to purchase replacements. Is this not the case within the Star Citizen online world??

Right now you do not have to have insurance in the PU. I the future, you will have to have insurance to replace your ships, but you will not have to re buy ships for real money.

Yes, you buy a game package and it generally comes with a ship. The basic package right now comes with 3 months of insurance. That isnt 3 months of time that is 3 months of game time in chunks of (12hrs at the moment). Once that runs out you will have to buy more insurance in game with in game money. If you lose your ship all together and dont have enough money you will have to do missions on other people's ships or on planet to earn enough to buy a new ship.

Thanks Master, I believe that you have answered the question.

I also read somewhere that there will be missions that you can take that come with a ship to use. So if you dont have a ship you can still do things to earn money to get another ship. But a lot of that is just speculation right now. The game isnt nearly there yet.

Right now to play you have to have a game package that comes with a ship and it is in alpha/beta so the insurance does not time down at all. So there is no possible way to play the game without a ship right now.
