Could some one give me a simple explanation of port forwarding and how to set it up for EAW..I called my IP and the tech guy and I were speaking different forms of English.I've read a few sites about it but got more confused only thing I figured out is I don't have fixed Ip address but rather a dynamic one..It's strange but Jack and couldn't connect with G.R. but were able to connect through the in game MP connection and be on the same runway.
So if we were able to connect that way but not through GR..Do I even need this port forwarding stuff...??My ip is sending me a new modem in 5--7 days mine is like 6 years old.I'll work on it in the meantime and when the new one comes and I activate it I'll see what happens,,If need be I'll keep calling Tech support until I get some one who speaks the Kings English..Thank You for any help to get me to understand this thing.I am trying to become an active on line target for you guys

Hi Russ.

My modem is two years old, and all I've done to connect is add my access code [WPA2] to each PC, and other device I have. When I start a session the PC, tablet or phone, logs on automatically, to the router, and it sets the connection, via 8 channels at an internal connection speed of 54.0 Mbps, regardless of the external line speed. I've never had to manually set one. Once the router gives you a connection, everything else is handled by your browser, and or software on the device.

Col G does not fly EAW multiplayer so has no experience of the EAW port forwarding issues for multiplayer flying.

Years ago I used it for EAW online in Australia with Ralf, BPNZ, Sydbod and many old friends.
At that time Sydbod posted a lot of helpful stuff re- port forwarding, which I have lost.
I recall that it was a difficult thing to set up because different modems have different set-up procedures, and universal advice is not appropriate.
Fortunately I do not need it to host or fly at GameRanger

However, I think you should check out your GR connection with me. Let me know when you can, and I will set up a "352ndEAW140" game for you to join smile

I have a room open now just in case smile

I have played online, although it was many years ago, and when I did, everything was handled via EAW 1.2, and our early modded exe's.

I also used to use Team Speak also without any problems, and also the connection was handled by the software.

No patches or tweaks were needed.

Hi,

here is the advice available from 2004 :

"Setup for Client Firewall Support Using the DirectPlay Dynamic Range To join a game through a firewall, the client must be using DirectX 6.0 or later and communicating with a host using DirectX 6.0 or later. To support applications using the DirectPlay dynamic range, a firewall administrator needs to allow an initial outbound TCP connection on port 47624, with subsequent connections of inbound TCP ports 2300-2400, outbound TCP ports 2300-2400, inbound UDP ports 2300-2400, and outbound UDP ports 2300-2400."

Jelly 2004

hope that helps smile

cheers,

Pobs

Oh and Syd said this smile

Hi All,
Some of you have expressed interest in what set up to use in Firewall Port Forwarding. I have spent about a week chasing up info from the web and testing it out on my system, which uses a linux distro called IPCOP 1.3 as an Internet server/firewall. The following Port Forwarding information has been tested and works ok on my system so it should be ok on just about any router.
At the moment no security breaches have been found according to my logs using this port setup. Only one annoying problem has surfaced in that since the following ports are now hard wired they will consistently show up if some dweeb does a port scan on your IP. That has encouraged one twit to try and cause a buffer overrun on my system by trying to overload the ports with requests, hoping to cause the firewall to fall over. This can be a problem if you have the fire and the games machine as the same machine, but with a separate router/firewall to your games machine the only inconvenience is that they might use up all your Internet bandwidth if you use a phone modem.

Here are the Port configurations.
These are so you can host as well as client.
All ports are set to IN and OUT (bi-directional).

47624 TCP DirectX7 DirectPlay setup
6073 UDP DirectX8 DirectPlay setup
2300-2400 TCP DirectX7 DirectPlay ports
2300-2400 UDP DirectX7&8 DirectPlay ports

6667 TCP Only if you also want to play on MSN GAME ZONE for other games eg Total Annihilation etc
28800-29000 TCP Only if you also want to play on MSN GAME ZONE for other games eg Total Annihilation etc

3782 TCP Only if you use Roger Wilco
3782 UDP Only if you use Roger Wilco
3783 TCP Only if you run Roger Wilco base station
3783 UDP Only if you run Roger Wilco base station

DISCLAIMER* The TCP ports on Roger Wilco may or may not be necessary as I have not had the opportunity to test it out with other people but they wont hurt to have them open.

Hope this may be of some value. If you should try them and/or have any problems please let me know.

Regards sydbod

hope that helps too smile

cheers,

Pobs

OK after reading and not able to firgure it all out,,Mainly I can't get to the on line setup page for my modem...I called Time Warner only took 3 tries to get someone I could understand,Hard to communicate otherwise.....At first she said I need a router with my modem. To setup port forwarding. For some ungodly not understood reason..
Finally got to the point where I said "It's your problem I should be able to connect on line fix it" So they have a tech coming out today around 4--5 to see what he can do,,I'll sacrifice a goat something to hope it works

You can normally find you router address by searching for the type you have. There should be an IP number, which you enter into your browser, and hit enter. This will open your browser settings, on a web page, from there you can see all the router settings, and change passwords.

Check out this page:
