Right here in little Alabaster, Alabama.

http://www.shelbycountyreporter.com/2016/09/21/422779/

But what we really need is a really big ball of twine or a huge Basilisaurous made of limestone or something to cement us on the national map.

Oh, and kudoes to the city government for getting a corporation to pay for it! They are actually a really fiscally conservative bunch, carefully keeping us out of debt and even in the black.

[edit]

It seems every small town comes up with something to crow about (Fort Payne, Alabama still has it's Sock Capital of the World sign up). For those of us not living in big places, what is you small town claim to fame?

Lol, that is pretty neat Dart.
Springfield Illinois is small by California standards so their claim to fame was Abraham Lincoln. winkngrin

The smallest town I've ever lived in had a population of 100k.

Alabaster looks to be just 20 miles south of Birmingham, my favorite way to drive back-and-forth to Atlanta (vs. Mobile/Montgomery). Why? Because that's about the closest I usually get to see of mountains. On a crystal clear day, they're beautiful.

The moving boulder:

It was a boulder, and it moved slowly. People used to put things underneath so the boulder crushed them.

It was there for centuries, balancing on that ledge... until one day it didn't. An mine apparently used too much explosives and the thing rattled and fell...

Now... we can't loose this magnificent icon of tourism can we? Well... We could replace it with a concrete boulder bolted and glued to the ground and sponsored by a glue company. biggrin

When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".

That was the size of Springfield when I lived in Illinois. Town we lived in had a population of 1,000 but I can't think of anything that would be their claim to fame.

So, I'm guessing from the appearance of the rock surface beneath the
boulder, that this was a glacial erratic dropped onto the scoured
path of the melted glacier?
