Hmmm. Torn on this. On the one hand, fool me once...

On the other hand, it sounds like concerns are being addressed, issues are being redressed, and things are actually looking brighter.

So, for now...I'm thinking about it.

Took the plunge after they announced an ROF-style Career. That and I do loves me my P-39. smile

I'm of the same mind. I'll probably cave in and buy it

My very first mission in Il-2 world was P-39 in this area.

My very first mission in Il-2 was called "crashing seconds after takeoff."

So was my second.

And my third...

I'm in. For the reasons mentioned and more.
That mention of the P-39 take-off in the IL-2 demo nearly brought a tear to my eyes... nothing like the many tears back then though! biggrin

I'm in, just going to wait a little longer than before. And yes, that P-39 brings back fond memories of the stormy weather take-off in the IL-2 demo. smile

I'll probably pick it up soon. I might pull an extra shift so I can justify spending the money to my wife.

Have to admit I loved the P39 in IL2, and all of her quirks and challenges(she had a mean high speed stall tendency)and I am very tempted to jump in. I am going to wait though and see how many of those changes they can actually implement. It is quite an impressive list and would certainly be good for them to gain more customers. For me if they can rework the AI, allow more AI and assets in user made missions, change ME to a friendly version, let me host on my rig, have a Career mode, have a modding switch like ROF and open ended user adjustment, then I would be all in. This is what I am hoping for anyway. All of the rest of their list would just be gravy. winkngrin

I am sure the open ended user adjustments will likely be back, should be easy to implement as they were there at the start in the Early Access for BOS.

I think it is pretty obvious the sim needs more of the SP community and that is what they will focus a lot of resources on going forward, at least that is how it sounds to me. Hopefully the AI will get some love as well. Getting rid of the level up system will be a good first start, but would be nice to see some additional tweaking to the AI to get them to behave more as they should/

Changing the ME to be more user friendly I do not hold a lot of hope for, as that I would think would be a massive undertaking. It would be great if they did though. I imagine we will see a Mods ON mode here pretty soon as well.

Yea, I am not holding my breath for the ME changes, but we can always hope. That would just open this up to so much more user content and online COOP stuff it wouldn't be funny.
One very interesting thing I like is, " Tacview" support. This is a very smart addition that I wish all Sims would use. I think their vision is right on track with what the untapped customer base has been asking for all along. Now, if they can just produce and implement it for real I think a lot of former customers will return, not to mention all those simmers who have not had a good "new" complete Sim in a long time.

Difficult choice... Fool me once... This is particularly true for the promise of VR. Jason made a comment about the VR during this weekend which indicated that he still thought that a change in the Oculus SDK that invalidated part of IL2 BOS work on VR was enough justification to break the promise of VR being a feature in it, and from what he was saying it seems he would still be OK with dropping VR again if the relevant SDKs changed in a similar way - the problem with that is that 1CGS were the only ones to do that really - other sims and games just redoubled their effort, fixed their VR support (e.g. Elite Dangerous and both OR and Vive support - they started with Extended mode and worked their way to the current SDKs, with down time and VR sometime in a broken state but never dropping the ball) - and that includes games and sims relying on DX9, DX11, openGL etc. Only IL2 BOS had to make the claim that they couldn't do VR using DX9.

In short, I'd really really like to support this but 1CGS hasn't really made it so easy to feel confident about the fact that they'll really stick to the features. In the end I'll probably go ahead, but it doesn't feel like the wisest decision.

EDIT: this is the statement from Jason which I was referring to:
"You can take VR to mean Vive and Rift. And we promised VR before and your friends at Oculus broke our implementation and dramatically changed requirements, so I won't make such iron clad promises as before because you never know what they will do. But if everything stays the same as now, we'll have it as planned."

So for anyone like me who are 100% flying in VR, that's something to keep in mind.

I'm not going to pre-order it; but I'm very happy smile to see that the developer intends to address almost all of the concerns raised by the community. If the new promised features are implemented the diamond in the rough will finally sparkle and I'll definitely buy BoK and be back into the franchise.

I swore quite some time ago, that never again would I do a pre-buy from this company. I felt totally burned by BOS at it's release, and quite honestly I have never even updated the game again since that initial release. I am sure there are many like me, and sounds like the type of folks Jason is reaching out to.

I am still a little torn. While I like what I have been reading, part of me wants to wait and see some of that come to fruition before plunking any money down again. While the other part knows they are asking for as many as they can, to keep the franchise going into the future, so in that regard I am inclined to not only pre-order BOK but also get BOM at the same time, and finally launch and update this game again.

Sigh, decisions decision. I suspect I will go ahead and do so here in the next few days. While I still have a sour taste in my mouth for BOS, I always said I would still love nothing more than to see them turn the corner and make the changes many want to see and I would again support them once more.
Maybe once they truly do away with the level ups...

Once I went into the online mode everything changed for me and this sim. I have to say, offline there isn't much out there that keeps me slugging away. I just can't seem to get interested outside of the online experience. Having played online and very active in that area, I didn't hesitate to support this next venture. Some really classy guys that I've met online, but the numbers playing are down these days for sure. We still have people joining our unit though, and we have about 40 or so with both the VVS and OKL side of this. Hope to see you guys support this as well, but it's a personal choice and everyone has their own perspective.

Pre-ordered BoK earlier today and actually downloaded the installer for BoS/BoM. Figured after owning BoS for almost three years I might as well give it a whirl.

Yep. I had the joy of trying to fly a pre-release Alpha version of the game at what was then BlueByte's studio in Austin. Here I am, big time SimHQ WW2 staff writer and supposed flying expert yawing all over the place trying to get the IL2 off the ground. The staff there was more than moderately amused and Oleg probably wondered what kind of fly by night organization sends this idiot over to test fly the game.

It took about a half a dozen tries to get the plane off the ground without flipping and diving into the ground. The controls were different than my CH setup so that didn't help but the flight fidelity at that time was so much more exact than Warbirds or EAW that I flew before.
