its actually less than a 5.56 if you can imagine that... very short impulse too... the recoil is barely there and gone...

I would think it would be obvious: they had Garands.

Now today we might think differently about battle rifles vs "assault rifles" and their relative merits but in 1944-45 the GI's who thought "gee I'd really like to have a weapon that fires an oversize pistol cartridge" were few and far between.

Which is basically exactly what the M1 carbine was. Whatever the reasons were that people liked it, its stopping power wasn't listed as one anywhere I've seen.

And I've also never heard of anyone who voluntarily chose an M1 carbine as their primary weapon over an M1 Garand. I have heard of the reverse however.

I was surprised at how small the M1 carbine was when I first got my hands on one, it looked like a toy sat next to my Lee Enfield.

I did read somewhere that in some states it was not recommended for use on deer as it was a bit underpowered.

Never did admire the AK-47, as a weapon I would want.

Course, if I found myself unarmed, on a battlefield, and saw one laying there, or someone offered me one, I'd certainly pick it up.
Which is probably why it's so plentiful.....lol.....

I remember watching a TV series on discovery about a gun shop think it was called red jacket where they attempted to make a AK-47 More accurate by upgrading the barrel and other parts. cant remember if they succeeded or not but remember thinking it was a good idea, an accurate AK would make for a popular choice with hunters etc.

That would be the Vepr rifles. Like the the pioneer and maybe super vepr models. It can be done. Even a stock saiga can do that job.

They developed even more later, especially around the time of the AK-74 trials and then later with the Abakan trials that were supposed to yield a successor. Some of them were pretty wild, like the '60s era TKB-059, a 3 barrelled 7.62x39 bullet hose meant to counter the Americanski SPIW program.

American contracted company level arms are garbage except for the M9 Beretta and the M240B MG... find the PDF on the Battle of Wanat.. Guys were throwing rocks .. M4's were breaking down.. SAWS were breaking down..ect.. this was under an INTENSE action rarely seen even to put all these US weapon systems to the test... ill take a Soviet rifle any day in SHTF were I do not have resources, time or parts...
