From the coming WOFF UE.... A Caudron G.4 over a new airfield layout. Instrument lights in Breguet 14 at night, and finally a shot over the new Vert Galland airfield (all "work in progress").
Edit: Added PE to the title as it's used for both these days.

The VERT GALAND drome should definitely have the 'Verts Galand farm' buildings at the distinct junction, to make it complete. And it seems there were never many trees in that area. If you go into GoogleStreetview, you can see them from close on.
I have informed my family that upon release of UE, I will disappear for at least a week.
I plan on making this very announcement to my wife when UE comes out. The resultant facial trauma should be enough to keep me out of work for at least a week. The double vision should simulate being a rookie pilot nicely.
No pressure, but I do have Nov 19th through Nov 27th scheduled off as a vacation. That will be my first real vacation since November 2011 (when Skyrim came out), so if you wanted to release it during that time frame I'm just letting you know that you would have my full support. LOL.
and yes, it has actually been 5 years since I took any time off for myself. I had a lot of crap in my life that needed to be fixed and I had a laser like focus on making that happen as fast as possible. Now that the house is fixed, the debt completely gone, the book is written and published, the job income is up and I'm in a happy, healthy relationship - I'm taking some damn time off to enjoy a little bit of life! WOFF UE would just be the icing on the cake.
The airfields look amazing and those winter tree are just stunning! I can see why it will be the Ultimate Edition. Take your time loading it with features.
Thanks for the screenies Pol. It looks even better than I had imagined.
Lederhosen, I don't wish to stomp on your dreams, but I am 99% sure you will not see the devs address this. It was never in their plans. Of course, nothing in software development ever remains cast in concrete as you know!

That's easy. The meaning of life is made up of the 3 fundamentals of life: WOFF, Women & Wine.
Those 3 things are so integral to the meaning of life that when you are searching on the internet, everything you look for is preceded by www, because obviously WOFF, Women & Wine always come first. Everything else is secondary.
WM has improved various parts of the winter scenery for the new bare trees. Meant to mention textures/skins of the Caudron and Breguet are by Sandbagger the Breguet is a WIP one.
All very very nice work Pol. It's exciting insight into what is coming. Thanks!

Nothing really to add - just that everything looks splendid, as usual. Can't wait to drag that fantastically implausible looking (sorry) French two-seater into the fray.
The new planes look great - the Caudron is something quite different from it's visual characteristics; and the Breguet will also fill gaps among the two-seaters nicely! Didn't the americans use them too?

This is a deal braker for me.

I do have one question: Will we have a flyable Handley-Page O/400 in WOFF UE?
(It would be cool to have one since it would give the Allies a heavy WWI bomber - remember the Germans already have the Gotha heavy bomber)

Look at this way: With the "insane" amount of time that you'll spend playing WOFF UE you won't even have time to mess your home or to eat so in this regard I would say that WOFF UE solves your problem
Looks like my last post was deleted in the great SimHQ crash of 2016. I thought you might enjoy some screenshots of some of the new planes and airfields of Wings Over Flanders Fields Ultimate Edition - beta. IMHO, after even only a few flight so far, I can say in short that WOFF has never had a better or brighter future than it does right now.
Geez I love the look of the trees in the first pic!

Absolutely. The Gap between True Life and Simulation is getting thin. Hey Rick Where've you been? There is a Challenge going on and you are not there?!?
Even the some of the old standby planes have some new surprises in Ultimate Edition. Notice anything different when I start an attack run on a pair of Albs in my Sopwith Strutter 1 1/2?
Thanks Hellshade for the awesome screnies and vid. Any idea if the OBD boys have managed to recode the lighting at the home airfields in campaign mode issue pal?

I know that one of the new features in UE is the 70 aerodromes you will be able to operate from in England instead of just the original dozen or so currently in WOFF. A bit more diversity in the generic dromes there as well, and even one or two individually specific camps such as Great Yarmouth Air Station.

Thank you for the pics, OvS! Could you just wear one of these AJDs*, and carry on testing? We don't want to be delayed, do we?

Hellshade what are the new features, changes in UE ?
It's not my place to steal the devs thunder with specifics, but I will say this:
The French aren't just getting two new planes and they are done. They are going to be integrated into the war better than ever before.
The airfields have received a lot of attention to detail. Not just new airfields as Louvert pointed out and more than just the layouts of existing ones, but in some cases what types of planes you'll see deployed there and how things change over time. Some important airfields will be easily distinguishable from the rest. Coming home after a long mission - day or night - will be more gratifying. Overall, the airfields have been brought to life and it's hard to imagine just how much this adds to the immersion of WOFF UE over 3. Even the feel of landing at one has been revamped depending on varying conditions. You will probably never want to use 'Air Start' option again unless you are really pressed for time.
Installation has been streamlined and improved. I'm sure the devs will layout the details when it gets closer to release. - No, I have no idea when that will be.
There are new options in the Workshop. Some will help folks with more modest GPUs in certain conditions while others extend the functionality beyond just what is programmed into WOFF Ultimate Edition itself. It's up to the devs to let you know what that is.
Some sounds have been greatly improved, including the Allies Vickers machine gun which is much more satisfying to fire. I could never go back to the older sound after flying UE.
Just when I thought development for WOFF was winding down and coming to the end of it's life, the devs have decided not just to give it an extension but really a sort of re-birth. It's all very much an unexpected gift.
Hellshade, this is wonderful news, absolutely wonderful. The integration of Lou's British fields will be tremendous, and I'm intrigued by what you've said about the French. More than ever I'm hoping for "England" to appear as a selection when requesting transfers so that we'll be able to transfer RFC pilots to Home Establishment and enjoy more of this delicious buffet.
Thank you, devs. As anxious as I am, I hope you take all the time you need. This chapter of the continuing project is amazing and can't be rushed. Three cheers for the WOFF team and testers!!!
Thanks Hellshade for the awesome screnies and vid. Any idea if the OBD boys have managed to recode the lighting at the home airfields in campaign mode issue pal?
Yes you can take off in the pre dawn lights and lit barrels, to really add to the atmosphere. New code to allow the player's airfield to have lights was needed.
Just some screenshots of Jasta 9, 20 May 1917 on the Leffincourt airfield, taking off and in formation, plus a close up of some of the trees and scenery along with some shots that show how well it all blends together.

Jasta 9 patrol 21 May 1917. I look behind and 3 of my flight have turned 160+ degrees and are flying back the way we came. A trail of smoke way in the distance up above shows me a Sopwith Triplane is limping back home. I wheel about and try to find if there are any others. I did find one and he was quite good. Made damn fools of at least 5 of my flight and myself until he finally had to turn and head for home. I don't know if I was able to land a single round into him. He was a better pilot in a superior plane. If I had not had so many wingmen for him to contend with, he probably would have gotten the better of me. At any rate, when he was finished toying with us he slipped away with a nice move that put him well out in front. We gave chase but were never able to make up the difference, despite all of us following suit.
Looking behind, I spotted another tripehound in tow behind everyone in my flight. We focused on the first tripe, he figured he sneak in and take some of us out before we even knew what happened. I quickly positioned myself to engage him and he was not so clever as his friend. He too had a better machine but he was not that better pilot. At least not this day. Not sure if it's an intended change or not but if you watch to the very end, it looks like OBD is now modeling broken flight harnesses. He was my enemy and a brave and noble one at that but my heart sank to see him left to that fate...
Jasta 9 Patrol 23 May 1917 - We get tasked with intercepting incoming observer aircraft. A pair of Caudron G.4s(!) who quickly turned and headed back for their lines. They were too slow to react to the danger though and soon enough, we caught up with them. I made boom & zoom attacks while my wingmen closed in from directly behind, splitting their return fire between us. Again, I witnessed two men jump to their deaths from their craft. Still turns my stomach just to think about it. Man I love this sim!
We get tasked to intercept inbound Allied Recon aircraft. We get up to altitude and head towards where they were spotted. Sure enough, we see 4 aircraft and as I look closer I can see they are Caudron G.4s flying in formation. The last engagement with G.4s went exceptionally well, so my confidence is high that once we catch them, we will make short work of them.
But WOFF UE and the war had other ideas. Every bit of what happened next is why I love this sim. Right down to the surprise ending.
\
That Spad pilot flew his plane to it's strengths: kept his speed up, maintained altitude advantage, attacked from behind and chose when to engage. Sometimes luck is better than skill and Fate is fickle.
Wonder how much WOFF UE will cost, because I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Looks like a damn oil painting, doesn't it? That's pure WOFF Ultimate Edition. No mods. No SweetFX.
WOFF UE beta Jasta 9 24 May 1917. Second sortie of the day has me making a rare patrol behind enemy lines. I'm tilting my wings left and right as usual to see if anything is below me. Nothing. I look back at my flight and notice one of my sheep has fallen a bit behind. Wait....that's too many sheep. I turn to engage. Ironically the moment I finished dispatching him, his burning wreck falls right next to low altitude Sopwith Strutter. Had the Noop not been killed exactly when and where he was, I probably never would have seen him. Bad luck for his friend turned out to be bad luck for him too.
Beautiful shots again Hellshade..It looks like that magician AnKor has worked his magic again

Just arrived back at the aerodrome at Lemmes in a camion after a sightseeing tour. Unfortunately, my machine is still languishing just our side of the lines near Verdun. I was out on a general observation of the lines, trying to determine where we were, and where they were. The first thing that drew my attention was the flashes of a terrific bombardment, and came down out of the clouds to find one of our forts getting pounded. A little further off, I saw a convoy moving along the road, and went to investigate. As I drew closer, shells erupted all along the road and on the convoy. And it was at that moment that I heard the unmistakable sounds of my aircraft being hit by small arms fire from the ground. I turned for the lines, but the damage had been done, and it was all I could do to make it to our side. Salut Édouard Lacroix
Thanks Shredder! some interesting insight on UE. I really like the new trees by season as well. This is exciting stuff!

Of course, I was joking . Nice shots, thanks. I hope we will get a chance to test it personally as soon as possible :-).
I'm excited for you to fly it too and look forward to your thoughts on it. I think you will be very happy, sir.
I'd just like to add that having been given the opportunity to play even the smallest part (mere feedback and observations - really just ringside seats) in the development process of WOFF UE, I'd like to offer some very high praise to Polovski, Winding Man and AnKor even though they aren't asking for it. These guys put in a tremendous amount of work testing every little aspect that they can in order to deliver the best possible finished product. I finally have had the opportunity to witness it as it happens and it's incredibly impressive to watch their commitment to excellence in action. Bugs reported. Bugs quashed. New features added. Old features improved. Developer beta patch updates on a nearly daily basis. And as we all know from experience, it doesn't stop there. Even after the product ships, they are busy patching bugs and adding / improving features.
Of course there's no way UE could contain all of the items on the Wish List but what they are including is incredibly well thought out and implemented. Even though the WWI flight sim market is small and doesn't have any other products being actively developed anymore, these guys don't rest on their laurels. They keep pushing and expanding the limits of what's possible. We are really lucky to have them and while WOFF UE can never be all things to everybody, I wouldn't want any other group of people working to improve it than these guys.
Whoa! For the last pic, I was almost searching for my "back-into-cockpit-view button", so I could hunt the Caudron down! The WOFF winter landscape looks best, definitely.
Vice-President of the BOC (Barmy OFFers Club) Member of the 'Albatros Aviators Club' - "We know how to die with Style!"
The DX shaders are looking superb. Lighting, shadows rendering, trees, all sorts. Lots of other cool improvements here and there too, to add to it all.
errrr. I may be a bit... a bit er thick, but does the "UE" mean an all in "one" install up to this date with all the addons and such? or is it just another addon????
OK I'm battling strong feelings of envy toward fellow pilots that have beta access (and I'm barely winning at this point). My Paypal account is quivering like a jelly in anticipation. I've been looking at continual stream of gorgeous screenshots for almost a month... I DON't THINK I CAN WAIT MUCH LONGER!!!! ..... please tell me it's less than two weeks Pol, 'till this beautiful feast can be enjoyed by the masses
From the coming WOFF UE.... A Caudron G.4 over a new airfield layout. Instrument lights in Breguet 14 at night,
Pol,
I just can't say how excited I am about the Caudron G.4 and Breguet 14. The G.4 looks just beautiful, guys! And if its ever been done in a WWI game in the past I missed it, so I can't wait for this one
And the huge impact these two planes will have on the campaign...a French 2-seater campaign to run the length of the war!
All the regulars here at the forum already know this, but for those reading this who still don't own WOFF, it is the most comprehensive WWI combat flight simulator ever created, and on the same breadth and depth as IL-2 1946, but of course with modern graphics (it has many "looks like a photograph or movie-clip" moments). WOFF 3 has better looking weather than FSX, P3D, or X-Plane IMO. WOFF 3 weather and atmospheric conditions are simply gorgeous.
If you buy one combat flight simulator in your life, WOFF 3 or the upcoming WOFF UE is the one to have. WOFF combines atmosphere, depth, breadth, and an engrossing career light years beyond anything that has ever preceded it.
WOFF stands alone with IL-2 1946 as the pinnacle of WWI and WWII combat flight simulators. It is that good, and better!
Dogfighting is what you do "after" you drop your bombs and blow something up! Can you say "JABO!"
French Breguet 14 career. Swarmed by multiple Albs I manage to fight them off and they all finally give up and head home. No kills for me but at least I lived.
Until out of nowhere, this guy shows up, killing my gunner and wounding me in his first burst. I lived but it reminded me to never get comfortable and feel safe...even on a low level flight back to the airfield. I was hospitalized for a few days but I feel like I let my back seat gunner down. If I hadn't gotten too confident in my escape, I would have noticed I had company and been able to try and throw off his aim.
Pol, I don't know what kind of magic you guys have got going, , , Let's just say that if CFS3 is Chopsticks then it looks like WOFF UE may just very well be Beethoven's Ninth! Absolutely gorgeous. And if it just looked good it would be one thing, but it's just so damn much fun to play! Even if I can't get in a lot of airtime I will purchase any product you guys turn out, a true labor of love. Can't wait to turn the credit card loose on UE. S
The graphics really do look outstanding. Does anyone know if a fully simulated, multi-rotary bomber (or aircraft for that matter) has ever been a flyable plane in a WW1 sim before? I wonder if that Caudron is the first.
I couldn't resist a last mission before bed. Went off hunting by myself and look what I found. They make tough opponents, folks. I got 'em but I went back to base with a plane that looked like swiss cheese.
Also has the 'plane exploding' effect been toned down ?
Do not mind. If not, I have prepared mod that can change that behaviour. I just did not solve an installation method yet, because JSGME version can overwrite any previous modding of "effects.xml" file (e.g. tracer mods, ...). To avoid this problem, I will have to either code it as a separate executable file or make several versions of JSGME mods including any other effects mods.
Also has the 'plane exploding' effect been toned down ?
They are indeed fiddling with it. I don't know what the final outcome will be but some of the beta patches to it have been nice improvements, IMHO. Of course if you happen to hit the fuel tank and it goes up, 20 liters of aviation fuel exploding is going to have a devastating effect on a mostly wooden structure but yes, I believe they are working on reducing the frequency of all 4 wings being shed.

That U E magic has me in its spell, That U E magic that is cool as hell. Those moody shadows up and down the line, Those brand new shaders that will soon be mine.
That WOFFy tingle that I’ll feel inside, When I climb up into a brand new ride. And then up and down I'll go, round and round I'll go, Trying to avoid those vents in my hide!
I would pay right now but what can I do? Its beta mate so I must wait. Wait - with a burning desire. And just its release can put out the fire!
‘Cause you’re the sim that I have waited for, You’re the U E OBD fans were created for. And every time you cross my mind,
Baby, down and down I go, round and round I go, In a spin, lovin’ the spin I’m in, Under that U E magic called WOFF - WOFF - yeah, WOFF. It’s champagne baby.

Thanks guys, please no "suggestions" in this thread, we know, it is what it is. We can;t keep adding and adding for little return. There is a suggestions thread for suggestions..
Sorry if I have missed it. But will there bei something like an Upgrade for those who allready own WoFF3 and the Ad Ons similar to the Upgrades V2 and V3? Or do we need to get the whole package again? I wouldn't mind to do so. Just asking.

You didn't miss it. The devs have not released that information yet and just viewing the screenshots and videos would be enough to make anyone anxious to know more, so I can't blame you for asking. In the meantime, more screenshots please.
I'm no expert at WWI damage. But I'm fairly sure that when you hit a gas tank with a round, the contents of the tank doesn't explode.
There's an old saying in aviation, "Fuel burns, fumes explode". It's why wings on fire don't generally explode; they just burn until the structure fails.
Now a hot round, especially an incendiary round, could ignite the fumes in a non-full gas tank with pretty devastating effect. But most of the gas itself won't explode, or even burn until it is "spread out" so that it has access to oxygen.
I suspect (though I don't know) that most flamers were holed tanks that covered the wood and doped fabric structure of the aircraft with a layer of fuel and were then ignited...by something. After that the plane went up like a torch.
Sorry for the aside, but just something to consider.
Really looking forward to this!

Yes exactly, instead of exploding hollywood style, the plane should burn
All interesting thoughts but even with the good intentions the thread is starting to get hijacked away from its purpose, which is showing WOFF UE screenshots and videos. The Devs are doing their thing. I think no matter what, we are going to end up improved overall in many areas.
I'm at work. Somebody post a nice WOFF UE beta screenshot to get the train rolling again.
Excellent re-write of the lyrics to "That old black magic". All that is missing is the rendition by Old Blue Eyes. I can almost hear his voice when I read your UE lyrics!
Very cool piece of work!! Does your varied talent have no end???

Just looked through one of the books for a nice picture of the Caudron and this one hit me as interesting.
It took a bunch of Huns to illustrate how huge the wingspan of this beast was.
"Take the cylinder out of my kidneys, The connecting rod out of my brain, my brain, From out of my arse take the camshaft, And assemble the engine again."
Close call. I transferred from Jasta 9 to 7. Damn Spads shot up my engine and prop stopped. Gliding in 2 Spads raced down on my tail and started lighting me up. I managed to land safely just our side of non mans land but my crate was full of holes. The Mechanics were mad!
We met some Brisfits. Started high and I landed quite a few rounds into him but his rear gunner was giving as good as he got. I gotta hand it to the pilot too because he threw his craft all over the sky trying to shake me off him. Many times he did but I was able to re-gain my position with a well placed barrel roll or high yo-yo. The fight kept losing altitude until we were dog fighting at tree top level near a church. Just as I put the killing rounds into his machine and he lost control, pitching into a row of trees, his gunner shredded my upper right wing. I managed to limp back to the airfield in the background.
Would it be possible to have gunshots shred the canvas like this?
The rear gunner is what shredded my wings. That wasn't dive damage. It was too many bullet rounds to the wing that did it. You will notice how I was at tree top level in the last bunch of pics. The rear gunner hit me with a final burst just before he crashed. No dive damage at all.
Encounters with RNAS-1 in tripes and then RNAS-2 in DH4s. Yes, I shot off his center right wing and it turned out to be fatal for him. You don't have to clip all of their wings. Sometimes just one does the trick.
Early war still looks fantastic too. After my wingman downed the Aviatik, a pair of EIIs(?) pounced us. I eventually forced his prop to stop and he dead stick landed behind his lines. Look at how alive the scenery looks with the new shaders too. Awesome stuff.
I would like to make an important point about the new UE shaders though. I have mentioned the nice FPS improvement the new shaders provide and they do, but I should also point out that while they will give you a boost they aren't going to turn a 3 year old GPU into SLI Titan level performance. You will probably notice the added FPS, especially around airfields, but I wish to be careful and honest about not setting the wrong expectation. The last thing I want is someone thinking if they buy WOFF UE they will be able to run everything maxed at 8x time compression with an aging CPU/GPU at 60 FPS. It's most certainly an improvement, but I don't wish to overstate by how much. As with everything PC related, your mileage may vary depending on your hardware and software configuration.
And now back to the beauty that is Wings Over Flanders Fields Ultimate Edition beta
Some early war campaign fun. Spotted white Archie puffs well below us on a behind friendly lines patrol. Once we got low enough to investigate we spotted a trio of EIIs. After that engagement we went back up to altitude and found a pair of Aviatiks scouting around. We chased them all the way back to behind their lines before caught up to them and engaged. What a great sim.
Scenery looks amazing with the varied trees and the colors and hues providing a wonderful feeling of depth. I think I killed the pilot and took out the wing on the Aviatik. Either way, I'm sure neither of them survived the spiral intro the ground from that altitude.
Early morning patrol. Emergency landing at another airfield after being wounded and controls damaged. The field itself had apparently suffered bomb damage recently.

Here's one I just snapped of the 55 Squadron flight line, AM patrol on 9 October 1918:

UE really is a joy to behold, and it runs amazingly well even with everything max'd out. AnKor's new shaders are magic.

dutch, here is an up-to-the-minute shot of my CPUID panel that should answer your question:

dutch, I couldn't tell you for sure how much the load on the CPU has been reduced in UE compared to the current WOFF as I've never benchmarked that figure in WOFF. I believe AnKor could give you a better idea about that. It was noted earlier that his newest shaders have shifted some of the work that was done in the past by the CPU over to the GPU but I couldn't tell you how much of a shift that is.

Here's a shot from this morning's sortie, coming in to land at Azelot in Verdun. Love the density of the forests and just the overall feel of the thing.

Perfect, the same amount of time that WOFF UE is due to release.

If it does (and i still think) it will require CFS3 to run WOFF UE,then i cannot see how a Steam/GOG release can be implemented JimBob Im loving the shots and videos Hellshade awesome pal. Il hopefully find out soon enough from the Devs, my only wonder is if UE is another addon or a completely new title that then makes WOFF V1 2 and 3 redundant?

Ultimate Edition sounds like everything all-in-one installer
Excuse me, but why do I give a diddly-bleep if WOFF is on steam? I've got a steam account and use it for CivV, but I don't understand why it would be of any help with WOFF. I've had no issues with WOFF through the years, works for me as is. I thought it was said once and for all that if WOFF needs CFS3 there is no way to make it available through steam. But what do I know, I'm sure Hellshade is right, absolutely confirm that there's no confirmation. Yeh, great new shots Hellshade, looks to me that environmentally WOFF has again taken another step upwards. The atmosphere is becoming more and more spectacular, that and new aircraft just keep WOFF way above other sims. I will always be intrigued just because of the simplicity of the planes, you're just flying, no tech stuff to get in the way. I know lots of us are old f***s, I saw those photos of you guys at the air show, and I think we can just appreciate it since most of our lives weren't so tech-ed up. Well, that's just me I guess. I'll take a restored '63 Corvette over a 2016 anyday. I always want to close every post that I make with how much the devs rock! Great work fellas!

Im hoping in 2 versions JimBob. An all in one installer (for people new and or are more comfortable with an all in one installer) and a Add-On for people like me who have all the addons now. OBD are a fantastic company the Devs are the best in the business but...Some people including myself have already paid a lot of money for WOFF V1 2 and 3 + the skin pack (before it was free) when you addon the Fokker Scourge,Balance of Power and Motley crew it comes to quite a bit. Also add to the fact that the £ is extremely poor against the $ post Brexit and us folks in blighty are at the moment getting a rough deal. I would like to add that i dont regret spending what i already have in this great sim that OBD have blessed us with. Anyway sorry to go OT id love some more WOFF UE shots guys.

I'd love to post more but it's a Diablo 3 Date Night with my girlfriend.
Haha ..its ok pal,ive been Euro truck simming with my lad

Excuse me, but why do I give a diddly-bleep if WOFF is on steam?
There are some people that do because it's easier to acquire the game. I know this is a niche of a niche but this Avangate reseller has limited number of payment options. Gog / steam are modern distribution platforms with modern payment options. Not everyone pays with credit card via internet and gog / steam allows to pay without them. There are plenty of people who would gladly pay and buy this game, but this Avangate only allows credit card.
Also there is other factor that your download links will not dissapear in case you will loose your dvd. If this game had more payment options available, i'm sure more people would buy it.
It's just about making life easier for everybody, everyone wins, devs because more people buy the game and people because it's easier to get it.
You have to treat JimBobb like a troll. He have been given the same answer multiple times about why WOFF will not be Steam, but he keeps coming back and stirring the pot, so obviously he really does not want to hear the truth about M$ and the base CFS3 game royalties.
