Was great pre 2005....my old street corner, about 100' from where I stayed when "winding down" in NOLA. Seriously, not a big Makers mark fan either. I have had a couple of good ones, don't remember the names, prolly why I pretty much have sworn off firewater. Nah didn't abuse the stuff, was too expensive. If I saw the bottle I would remember the best one.

Depends on what he wants to do with it. If he wants a good sipping whiskey, you can't go wrong with a bottle of 12 year old George Dickel. Don't let the lower price fool you - it's one of my favorites, and I put it equal on my list beside Johnny Walker Black. One just can't mix it with anything other than maybe an ice cube. It's very mellow with a lot of oak, rich and warm. That's why it's a sipping whisky, not a shooter or a mixer. Um, put it with the "sneaky" drinks, though. It's easy to sit down on the porch or in a comfortable chair and drink George Dickel glass after glass, three fingers at a time, talking away or enjoying the scenery - and then get that "whoa, wait a minute" effect when standing up. Also place it in the friendly liquor category as well. I have never, ever seen a fight where it's the whisky being served. I think they actually put testosterone into Jack Daniels (which I would NOT recommend, as I think it's just nasty; proof of that is that people are always altering its flavor with Coke-Cola).

Bourbon does not come from Tennessee the same way Scotch does not come from Ireland.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

I like Knob Creek. Good flavor and a good value.
I have a fairly expensive bottle of Bookers that I keep for 'medicinal' purposes. I had to hide it when the brother in law came over.

Bourbon does not come from Tennessee the same way Scotch does not come from Ireland. It used to be a 'tradition' to not call anything from outside of a couple of counties in Kentucky but that rule has been relaxed these days. There are plenty of small distilleries that make 'bourbon' that are outside of Kentucky. Now go to Kentucky and say that and you might have a fight on your hands.

I'm not a bourbon connoisseur (I'm more of a scotch guy) , so I humbly ask for your preferences on this.
I actually love Bourbon and my Fav would be Woodford Estate (We don't get a great selection over here) which was given to me by a friend who went to the states and brought back. Now, insofar for scotch, I am clueless. I have no passion for it. On that note, for those that do love that particular nectar I am just curious to know whether a purchase I made of recent was a wise one or foolish. The story goes, a colleague of mine was in trouble with finances and came to me to ask if I would like to buy his scotch collection as I operate a bar and I would most likely be able to sell the product through my outlet. I looked at the list, checked retail prices over here, and to buy would be in the vicinity of $5,300. As I was not particularly overwhelmed by scotch, I made an offer of $2,800 ... He was happy and accepted, I was not real bothered as it was more of an investment for my son for the future .. I don't drink it so it will be fairly safe and there is no way it will deteriorate with maybe a little improvement to boot. The list of what I bought follows and the average per bottle is around the $82 mark ... I know there is a couple of vodka there with gold flakes so I guess they don't count .. but heck ... they are impressive! Any knowledgeable input would be appreciated. Give the single malts a closer look, see if there are any rare bottlings or discontinued releases (for example that Macallan Elegancia) in there. Keep those to yourself as an investment (if you can afford to). Enjoy the rest (or give/sell them to those who would). The Chivas and Johnny Walkers are (usually) blended, so purists will avoid those. Best to sell that to customers at your bar, unless those you own would be especially rare (check online).

"Singleton" is just another word for single malt; usually it is "Singleton of ...", and the location given is the pertinent descriptor, like Singleton of Achroisk, or Glen Ord, etc.
Of the ones listed, very few attract my attention, but that's just my taste - the Bowmore, and the Macallan (assuming Macellan is a typo)), and I'd be cautiously curious about the Mackinlay, and the Glenlivet 21yo. The rest I would probably decline a free glass.

What's wrong with the 18yo Talisker? I would definitely not say no to a free glass...or, even better, a free bottle (which currently sells for around 110 Euros here). It's an excellent whisky. Now some don't like the Talisker's signatory chili catch. But still.
