Wow, so just over one third of the medals won by the US have been won by Texans? That's pretty amazing.

USA medals by sport, http://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=olympic+medals+2016&mie=oly%2C%5B%22%2Fm%2F012nfc7z%22%2C3%2C%22m%22%5D
One would have thought the USA would have cleaned up in shooting but only 1 Gold and 2 Bronze. Ranked 5th. http://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=olympic+medals+2016&mie=oly%2C%5B%22%2Fm%2F071t0%22%2C5%2C%22m%22%5D
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Not that it isn't impressive, but a few of those are duplicates due to being team events with each player's medal in that event counted seperately. The relay races get counted for more than just the one event, womens basketball, mens basketball etc. Still a LOT of events with Texans medaling though.

Things like NRA/CMP Hi-Power (and likely airgun as well) are not nearly as popular as they once might have been. Rifle competition is also very much alive in specific European countries (off the top of my head the Scandinavian region comes to mind) so they certainly have high performers. And hell good US shooters might not even be interested in going to the olympics, and I don't blame them. When they get rid of the corruption and goofy locations (and add modern shooting sports) I may bother watching. Curling and bobsledding are not martial arts

So the cash prize awarded to athletes are different from country to country and the usual big guns like United States only offer around $25,000 for winning the gold, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for Bronze while Azerbaijan award $510,000 to the winner of gold, $255,000 for silver and $130,000 for bronze. http://www.totalsportek.com/news/olympic-gold-medal-prize-money/

Curious how that worked out. Is there some sort of support program in Texas for athletes that other states do not have? Or some sort of greater infrastructure for tracks, fields, swimming pools, etc? Which then begs the question the medals came from which sports? Good genetics and clean living, plus healthy helpings of Texas beef. This is God's country...

Maybe Azerbaijan offers that much money for a gold medal win because they don't expect any of their athletes to actually win one. Their athletes received $2,860,000.

I can explain it, because it was written by a Texas Newspaper, and we have a belief that runs something like this:
