Troll - Whatever I said about Oculus and ROF was given to me by the team. I don't know how to explain it other then I was not in charge when I probably said that and now I have zero resources and budget for ROF. :-( I keep hope alive though.

Nice to see ya Jason wink

Looks like things are going to start moving in a direction that will make many folks happy.

Even though CLOD was considered a "bomb" it still had over 200k in units sold. With IL-2 1946 at about the 220k range before it according to Steamspy.

My point is, anything that moves in a direction to get back some of the 200,000 hardcore ravenous IL-2 fans would be a good thing. They are out there and can probably be brought back with some changes.

I bought BOS but held off on BOM for many of the reasons a lot of us share...but will be keeping an eye out now after not even checking on the progress of this sim for months.

Best of luck Jason!

Really? This is your advice?

Not advice just a comment.
Jason

Well let me give you some advice then Jason. If you want me to support this game do not make these comments. It does no good, unless you need to work through the anger you have for Maddox. But doing this privately might be best.

Just need to say. As a potential customer

LOL My anger at Maddox? Oh man are you guys don't know me at all. You'll see just how bad a person I am. LOL

Nobody has alluded to you being a bad person and what type of a person you are is rather irrelevant. When you post under a company's name I'm more interested in the product you are offering. And when a company tries to point out the positives in their product by pointing out the negatives of a competing product, this does not encourage me in any way to buy what is being offered

Was CloD's lifespan terminated in favor of BoS? Of course.

Was it because despite the CloD team bravely fighting on against insurmountable odds it was sabotaged by a knife in the back from 777? Uh...no.
They'd already made their bed, lay in it, soiled it, got up, changed the sheets with others that were already dirty, lay in that, soiled it again...

I can't picture any scenario where that BoM was really going to come about. Either 777 was coming in with 1CGS as we had, or Il-2 as a franchise was calling it a day. They blew it, it was blown, 1C was never giving them a chance to blow it again.

"But they SAID they were working..." Yeah, they SAID. I can't imagine they believed that, and if they did they were gullible to believe 1C when it told them. There was no corporate confidence in that setup anymore. Whatever your opinion of the final product as patched before the mods started, it took a seriously botched launch and 18 months of free post-launch work (as in it wasn't accompanying DLC/expansions/planes/whatever) to get CloD to that state.

1C had to lose money on it, or at the least they made a profit vastly lower than their projections. Corporations don't just shrug their shoulders and say "oh well". If you invest say $10 million and make less than $11+ million, what was the point? Could just invest your money in stocks and bonds and get a better return than a drawn out product cycle that led nowhere.
It was never going to happen, the work that was done was just filler until that last update was out and then it was pink slips and don't scratch the door when it hits you on the way out because we'll take it out of your severance.

There are plenty of decisions I've blamed the people behind BoS for (and you can find them all right here if you search smile ), things they chose to do that I disagreed with, but I think it's stupid to come up with conspiracy theories to blame them for what was not their responsibility. They shot the sheriff, but they did not shoot the deputy. Why do people feel it necessary to make up things to be mad at them for? As someone who can't buy into conspiracy theories about anything, I've never understood that mentality.

You don't like BoS? Fine.
You don't like what happened with OR? Fine.
You felt like your concerns weren't given the proper consideration by the developers? Fine.
All those things, BTW, are potentially fixable given resources and the desire to change them.
You think it was some evil backroom plot that dealt the angelic CloD team a crushing blow and forever extinguished any chance of it blossoming into the mega-awesome sim you could see appearing? And for that you can never forgive 1CGS? rolleyes

Thanks for the reply 777.

I wonder how, since just about all on the 1CGS team came from the original IL2, you all went so far off the successful path and ended up where you are today predicting, nay threatening the demise of the genre unless we all buy whatever you decide to sell us?

SP will change....thanks.

Exactly what then, will happen if COD code is released?
The TF people seem to think it would make their job a whole lot easier.

I have not counted you guys out, just been disappointed by your direction and handling of the fallout.

Maybe a change is in the air?

I'm just surprised the old CLOD vs BOS debate is being brought up again. Is there some strategy behind it, good cop bad cop kinda thing. It's frustrating and a turn off for me, I'd prefer to share what turns me on, but that's for another forum. Ha!

Wow one comparison to the fire we took over unlocks to the reaction to the broken state of CLOD and it's WWIII again in here. Now I remember why I left. Remind me never to try and draw comparisons to anything. There is no reason other why I mentioned that other than I am still curious why the difference in attitude towards us. Something odd going on there.

And I'm just trying to make BOS something more akin to what I think a lot of you wanted. Leave it at that. I only came here to try and give some perspective since I saw comments with my name in it.

And for the record, I had nothing to do with the unlocks and secondly I only defended the people making those decisions from personal attacks and conspiracy theories. It was their right to make what they thought was best. But look at my comments in the past, never did I say it was a good idea. :-) You also don't know what I endured in the background on your behalf. Anyways it's moot now that we have done away with the unlock requirements and given everyone the unlocks (or will next week once we update the database). It's a victory for you hardcore types. Enjoy it.

Could we please just move on?

Jason made the effort, came back after a long hiatus. We all know the history, but please let's not revisit it. It seems things might be changing. Let's not drive off the only guy who can tell us what is REALLY happening.

Sorry but have we been disrespectful?

What really is going on will come out in the game so yes let's see what happens

Agreed. Plus, if we get rid of the level system, and can have a better SP experience as a result, that is fantastic.

Long before he bought into ROF with 777 when neoqb dumped.

While I like ROF well enough, I'm sad he never go to do that. I hope some day he can get there again.

Yes I licensed the Merlin engine of BOB II: WOV fame and I built a small team and we tried to make a P-47 sim in the Pacific. Didn't work out and my backer bailed so I just went back to publishing and selling other games. Then ROF came along.

That failure was a good learning experience though.

Jason

That was a fun/frustrating time, still appreciate that opportunity though.

Yep, one thing I'd like to add to what I was saying before is that I've never doubted that Jason was a very positive force in the flight sim world. We need guys like him, and having him back here on SimHQ is good. It's always easy to attribute bad intentions to others when things don't meet our expectations but remember that the reality is often different from what we assume at first. I was disappointed by a few things about IL2 BOS, most of them being sorted now actually, but I never felt I needed to make it some sort of conspiracy against the flight sim community.
We should really move on indeed.

Ironically I was accused of being part of some conspiracy after asking what seemed like an innocent enough question.

So ya it goes both ways

But yes let's move on

Wow lots of [Text deleted] on here, I don't get it.

We need to support any team cranking out flight sims in these times, there aren't many left. The new IL2 series gives me the best feeling of flight compared to any other sim I've flown imo.

Haven't had much time to fly lately which is sad but when I do I just love firing up new IL2 BoS and BoM to get a good quick flight in that makes me feel like I'm there and takes me back.

Keep up the good work Jason and team, think this next release will be solid. Can't wait for the announcement.

Refrain from labeling other participants.
