So one of my favorite games of all time is Skyrim. If it's not your cup of tea, no problem. I understand, but I love it. Now that I finally have a GPU with some decent memory size, I've been able to go back to Skyrim and update it with some nice 2k and 4k textures. Collecting bandit bounties, killing draugr and slaying dragons so I can absorb their souls never gets old for me and now it even looks fairly good too! Can't wait for the new lighting effects and shaders in the upcoming Skyrim Remastered edition.

You forgot my favorite part: yelling enemies off mountains!

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

Fairly good?

I wonder what you consider to be really good? biggrin

Oh it was a bad idea to look closely at those screen shots.
Feeling a hankering to take sword in hand.

Maybe I should get Lou to paint me up a Skyrim Dragon on a Sopwith Pup. Dragonhunter Squadron. LOL

Hehe. Fine idea.
Yea I am a big fan of all Bethesda stuff - Oblivion, Skyrim, and of course the Fallout series.
With the caveat of modded installs. The modders do fine work for the aforementioned games.

Beautiful!!! I just heard about the remastered edition today...can't wait!

I explored every dungeon in both Oblivion and Skyrim and I'd gladly do it again!

A few more showing some of the high resolution textures. Like a whole new game for me.

Ouch. I used to play Skyrim but I took an arrow to the knee.

Just realized when I did my W10 stuff two months ago I wiped my HD so everything except WOFF and E:D is gone. And with Steam it's a huge pain in the arse to replace the Bethesda stuff. Boy I hate Steam.
Luckily I kept all zipped mods on another HD. Course I'll have to see what's been updated.
Not enough damn free hours in a week.

Yup, re-installs are a pain, Duke. I just had to re-install Skyrim and it's 140+ mods. I had the list but I needed to re-download them all. /sigh. Oh well, it seems to run better than it did before, so in the long run it was worth it.

High resolution trees video just to give some idea of what it looks like in motion. 1080P

And here's a quick video of my Altmer Mage character attacking a bandit camp. I have some cool spell mods that you can see, like ones that give me a Draugr Lord as a summoned pet to fight for me or another one that uses the Alteration school of magic to push enemies back while doing damage to them. The downside is it's mana expensive and it's slow to reach the target.

1080P

What the hell? A few more since I'm having so much fun with my Mage. The GTX 1080 is amazing. It runs Skyrim at 2560 x 1440 with 2k and 4k textures at a silky smooth 60 FPS no matter what is going on. All I'm waiting for now is the Remastered Edition of Skyrim which will give all new snow and water shaders, volumetric lighting, god rays, etc. Essentially, it's the Fallout 4 engine. Anyway - here's a few more.

Those shots are unbelievable. Another reason to upgrade my video card from a 780!

I had a 780 ti which is a good card but moving to a 1080...there really aren't words to describe the improvement. Anything under 4k resolution, just set everything to max/ultra/epic settings, every slider all the way to the top or right and then enjoy the liquid smooth gameplay. No more fiddling with graphic settings to find the balance of eye candy and frames per second. If you can find one and can afford it, I highly recommend a pascal card.

I've been playing this wonderful game for years... strangely enough it's the only game I have been playing for the last 3 weeks.
Glad to hear that there is a new remastered edition coming out, that will be a day one buy for me!

If you own the PC version and have all the DLC, you won't be buying it. Bethesda will give it to you for free. 2 months and counting. Between Skyrim Remastered and (hopefully) WOFF Ultimate Edition, I'm hoping the year ends on a high note because those are, without a doubt, the two pieces of entertainment software I spend the majority of my time on. smile

Thanks for the info, great news!

Even with the current high resolution texture packs, I still wander around the maps taking in the atmosphere, and loving the marvelous sound track... truly one of my favourite games smile

Okay Hellshade you got me all fired up.
Putting the joystick aside for a few and am reinstalling Skyrim as we speak.
As a bonus I think I have something figured out. Skyrim is installing from my disk this time so much less painful.
Seems last time I did this it d/l'ed the whole damn thing from Steam online.
So geeked got all my Bethesda disks out for install.

Edit: Looks like my excitement may have been premature.
Forgot about the 11.2 GB of "extras." I only get 17 GB a month on my satellite
Well lucky there is FO 3...

Glad to hear it Duke. I can say without a doubt that Skyrim and WOFF 3 are by far the two pieces of entertainment software I spend the majority of my time in. Once in awhile I get an MMO itch and load up Rift, GW2 or even WoW, but that usually lasts about a week and then I'm bored again. Skyrim and WOFF 3 - I always come back for more.

Skyrim has the advantage of tens of thousands of mods to keep it fresh with new textures, spells, monsters, weapons, armor, NPCs, features, etc. If you are looking for good old first person view dungeon delving, it delivers incredibly well! I'm running two characters. A female Bosmer stealth archer assassin type and a male High Elf full Mage with particular emphasis on Destruction and Conjuration. What are you going to play? Show some pics!

TBH at 17 GB a month it may be a week or two till I am up and running - also have to share it with the other half and her business.
But that will give me a chance to go over the mod collection and see what's been updated...got a pretty big collection.
But when I play I usually play a human Nord Ranger hero good guy type - sword and sneak dagger attacks but most kills come from stealth archery.
