Why the hell would I want to derate my video cards performance (ie. chop my framerate in half) in order to save power?! Optimal power sounds great and all but what you REALLY want is Adaptive ... This (possibly new) default setting has been bugging me lately. Just something to watch out for.

These drivers work for laptops, too. I think the logic got confused and acted like you were using a mobile chip instead.

Jeremy Clarkson would also agree with you Linebacker.
As would I.

Does adaptive work as well...adapting to the demand?
Or is just another version of optimal, does it both conserve on non graphic apps and then uses all the power when needed on games etc?

Or is just another version of optimal, does it both conserve on non graphic apps and then uses all the power when needed on games etc? Good question! Didn't even think to try adaptive yet so I did and it looks good so far ... derates to around 10% power in 2D but runs in boost mode or at least in a more aggressive mode in 3D which is exactly what I want. I'll keep using adaptive for a while and if I don't run into any funny business, I'll keep it! Thanks for the heads up Nixer! Oh crap, I'm currently running in "Prefer maximum performance" mode right now and looking down at my vid card temp (shown on my keyboard) it's at 52 Celsius just running Windows Explorer since the card is constantly running at normal 3D clock speed. DEFINITELY want "Adaptive" now. I'm going to edit my OP.
