Yes WOFF3 is improved and continues to be so. Various improvements by AnKor in the shaders/lighting, plus we tweaked scenery, clouds and all aircraft to suit.
Pol, I find myself comparing the real life sky to the game, and can't believe how much submersion you guys have succeeded in. Well done.
I'd have to second that. Sometimes a WOFF flight will bring back memories of actual flying to me. There are very few sims I've flown that quite hit the nail on the head like that.
This pic might not look very colorful. But it is a perfect representation of a hot "milk bowl" summer day where the only direction you can see is straight down. I suffered through many of these in South Texas where for weeks there wasn't enough vis to fight, to bomb, to do anything but fly instruments.
As far as atmosphere goes, pun intended, OBD really knocked it out of the park.
My first attempt to spin up a new pilot after Charlie went poorly. After bouncing around in the DH-4 and feeling pretty good about the aircraft, Donald decided to press an attack against one of the D.VIIs that had bounced our flight:
Unfortunately, Donald pressed after one machine too long and got it in the tail.
So far, Edward has done better. The DH-4 is a fine crate as long as you remember that it's no scout. Fighting D.Vs and Pfalzes doesn't hurt.
Great shots again guys. Deacon that 3rd pic is a cracker. The atmosphere in Woff v3 is at another level. Nice one
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
I lost sound for some reason during the recording, but I was flying Observer for a change in an RE8 and my cover flight of N17s engaged a flight of Albs that was intend upon us. You can even see one Alb collide into an RE8 near the beginning of the combat. The N17s stayed behind and took the full heat while we continued on our mission. It truly looked like an epic, furious dogfight. We made our patrol and got back home. I only saw one N17 by the end of the flight.
I know there's been some talk about cover flight not engaging. Maybe I got lucky or maybe they made some changes under the hood, but they sure engaged for me in a big way! I actually had a kind of a sad feeling as we slowly plodded away from the carnage to complete our mission while they stayed behind and fought to the death simply so that we could.
On the next mission, I wasn't so lucky. The Germans came at us in two waves. Top flight never saw them and it was a slaughter. I managed to drive off a couple of them, but from the moment the second flight of Albs dove down among us, claws extended, our time began to run out quickly. Still no sound for some reason, so I added in one of the soundtracks from WOFF 3. Credit Matt Milne for an outstanding musical score.
Awesome Hellshade! I love the big furballs that you see in WOFF. It's also nice to see the the D.VII close up (well, close up and not trying to kill me I mean).
I don't think the "Escorts" are reluctant in engaging. I thought it was when you have a "Top Cover" flight that you might not have them engage. I just think that we tend to conflate the two and expect what is actually something of a TARCAP or BARCAP to join in the fight when we get bounced as though they were escorting us, which is not technically their mission.
What is the little groups of dots in that last shot? Are you being shot at?

Yes, you can actually see three smoke trailers from bullets (I am using a mod) zipping past my plane, along with a number of bullet holes in the fabric of my crate as well. Evidently some rounds hit something metal (I guess) and that is what caused the small sparks you see.
Excellent screenshots! I'll save those to my computer when I get back from Houston this weekend. Same for the ones in CaptSopwith's post. Fan-freaking-tastic!!! I've finished another video but I see that there is a problem viewing embedded videos. Here's the link to my newest, Wings Over Flanders Fields - Entente: https://youtu.be/E07D-KLM04w
What a truly stunning piece of work! I can't even begin to imagine all of the hours that must have gone into making that but it captures so much of what WOFF has to offer incredibly well. What an incredible gift for the devs and the community to promote. Well done!
Thanks Hellshade. I wasn't going to make another one but there were aspects I didn't get to cover in my first video. Olham got me thinking about it when he asked for another. Yea, lots of hours but it's a labor of love.
