Not sure how true to history, but I've really enjoyed the 2nd season of an era that I only briefly learned about in high school. I'd really like to learn more about this giant of a man, the Kahn of khans Kublai.

Don't forget the king of pool games.

Scully: Victim died of multiple stab wounds.
Mulder: *throws her a file* Ever heard of the knife alien?

LOL I've always wondered what the connection is between a dumb pool game and a 13th century explorer.

If you are interested in the subject, the books of John Man are a pretty good place to start:

http://www.amazon.com/John-Man/e/B000APPAPK/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_23?qid=1469639383&sr=8-23

His volumes The Mongol Empire: Genghis Khan, His Heirs and the Founding of Modern China, Genghis Khan: Life, Death, and Resurrection, Kublai Khan: The Mongol King who remade China, and Marco Polo: The Journey that Changed the World should be most useful.

A bit of trivia for you: Sorkaktani, Kublai's mother (and mother of Mngke and Hulagu), was a Christian.

The Marco Polo series seems excellent, although I have only seen three episodes so far. There is much to be commended re. the show's efforts towards historical accuracy, although of course there is some embellishment, and gaps in history have to be filled if a fictitious show is to be made of it at all. I must say that I am not too worried about the historicity of a naked young woman doing acrobatic kung fu.

The blind monk is one bad effer. I like how they incorporate fight scenes while not being too corny or over the top.

I got season one for Christmas and really enjoyed it. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding "the Latin" though. Yeah some of the martial arts scenes are really well done and you haven't seen kung fu until you've seen a fully nude, female Chinese assassin do it.

Geico sure botched that commercial. Since when did Marco Polo run across a Llama in Asia.

Perhaps they just confused on how many "L"s in it. Maybe he encountered a 1xL Lama.

Chances are pretty good he saw a 3xL LLLama... (that's one hell of a fire!) wink

An Ogden Nash reference. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
